So, I went to see Cars last night and honestly had no expectations for this movie. The trailerrs didn't look so great. I hate car racing, I hate Larry the Cable Guy, I'm a guy without an affinity for cars at all -- I drive one and that's about it. So, going into this thing with no expectations, I hoped that I would perhaps prove me wrong and be a good flick.

Unfortunately, the movie didn't prove me wrong. Now, before I go on and bash this movie, I must say that a bad Pixar movie is better than dreck like the overrated Shrek anyday. I mean, the animation in this movie is still superb ("Man, can they draw trees!" is what I was saying during the movie -- sounds stupid, but the backdrops are gorgeous).

Still, despite the beautiful trees, Cars lacks heart - a precious commodity in Pixar films. Whereas you cared greatly for Boo and Nemo and Jessie, there's no emotion in Cars. Is it just because they're cars and we as a population are not accustomed to seeing inanimate objects talk (this differs from Toy Story in that the toys looked human or animal-like)? Maybe. Or maybe the folks at Pixar just couldn't create a good story for this one. The film goes on forever and nothing happens...and I honestly didn't care what happened. There's too many tangents and I honestly didn't care much about any of them. There's romance sprinkled in (but they're cars...who cares about a romance!), but it's pointless.

Voice acting is good, especially Paul Newman, but his character is kinda blah. Larry the Cable Guy's Mater wasn't nearly as annoying as I thought it would be (he was actually my favorite character), but when he said "Git 'er Done," I was done. The side characters are there for humor, but are of little importance to the plot and any one of them could've easily been moved to the trash can on the Pixar folks' trusty Apple computers.

Still, despite all these problems with the movie, the movie looks good. I give Pixar credit for not stooping to crude humor (a la Shrek) or pop culture references (a la Shrek -- can you tell I think Shrek is overrated?). There is a timeless feeling to Pixar movies and this one is no exception.

I am certain that this Pixar flick will do well, but it'll be interesting to see how kids react to this film. It's about 40 minutes too long (why is thing 2 hours plus?!?!?!) It's simply boring -- not awful, just kind of blah.

That being said, the short prior to the film "One Man's Band" is a hoot and the bits during the credits are some of the best things in the movie so make sure you arrive early and stay late.

The RyMickey Rating: C <----That's a 'C' in comparison to other Pixar flicks...Go see it, and I think some will agree that it's Pixar's worst-to-date.
