Good morning everyone! My brother is getting engaged this weekend and my mom wanted to have a little get together with our immediate family Sunday night for some champagne and dinner. Any thoughts on a gift? Normally my friends don't buy engagement gifts but since this is my brother I thought it would be nice to pick something up for them. Any thoughts?

If you're certain that she'll say yes ;) why not get them a bride and groom ornament for their first Christmas tree? Assuming that they celebrate Christmas. Most specialty/china shops in our area sell them year round.

:teeth: She was afraid she would have to be the one to propose! Great idea, thanks!

I think it is an easy gift for them to like, especially before you know what patterns they like and will register for.

You can also buy a good bottle of champagne for them to toast each other on the night of their wedding.

When my sister got engaged, I bought her a pair of Waterford toasting flutes that she could use at the wedding.

I like the ornament idea. We received a crystal frame, a Norman Rockwell figurine "The Marriage License", and Champagne glasses we used at our wedding and flowers.

What about a Wedding Planning book, where they can write down all their plans. Inside it has time frames for when you need to do certain things and places to write down information etc....

My gmil gave us a bunch of beautiful ornaments for our first Christmas (we didn't do an engagement party). Harder to find right now, but very much appreciated. We think of her everytime we hang them on our tree. Is the Christmas Dove still in Faneuil Hall? They have some very pretty ornaments.

A wedding planner book and a good bottle of champagne is a nice idea, too.

Toasting flutes and champagne, although you really need to know their taste in stemware.

When my brother was getting married, I made up a basket that had 2 champagne flutes engraved with their names on them, a couple of nice candles, a Minie and Mickey bride and groom and 2 of those small bottles of champagne.

My favorite gift was a picnic basket. It was filled with wonderful treats and plates and napinks etc and 2 crystal champagne flutes and a nice bottle of champagne.
