My BIL is leaving at the end of this month and will be gone for 15 months, he's a member of the National Guard reserves.

Does anyone else have any relatives that are/were stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba?

Oh boy....much hugs to you...my DH who was then my DBF was gone for 10 months during the first war in Iraq....it was tough, but we got thru it. Where is he going?? Do you know?

Hugs to you, and the utmost respect and thanks to your BF. I have a cousin who has been in Iraq for 9 1/2 months now. He most likely won't be home until the end of the year. It has been really hard on my aunt and my grandmother. I wish him well, and will keep you both in my prayers.

Thank you. It's my BIL(brother-in-law) going, I feel bad for my sister, he'll be away for so long.

My DH was also in the first Gulf war, he was in the Marines. I didn't know him then though, we met a few months after he returned.

My cousin's DH just returned from a 10-monther at Guantanamo Bay. Though the family separation was very hard, of course, he found the actual base to be very comfortable. In fact, he said it was like living in small-town America and he felt at home there. His housing was more than adequate and he had good e-mail and phone access. At one point his wife was able to take a military flight down there and visit him for a week, and he was able to come home for a few days at Christmas. All those things helped ease the pain of separation a bit.

15 months is a LONG time! I can't imagine. I wish your BIL and his family the best.

My best for your BIL and sister, and everyone in the family. Hope all goes well in the months ahead.

I believe the living conditions at Guantanamo Bay will not be bad for your BIL but the seperation from his family and friends for such a long deployment will be very difficult I'm sure.
I wish him the best of luck. My heart goes out to him and his family.

They told my BIL that my sister wouldn't be able to visit him, I wonder why? I'll have to ask my sister about it again, maybe she misunderstood. Thank you!

Hugs. My BIL just returned from 13 months away in Kuwait (1 month) and Iraq with his reserve unit. We haven't seen him yet because he has been reconnecting with his kids and wife. It's very hard.
