My beloved Bulldog died a horrible death at Vets Saturday

My heart is breaking for you.
We lost our sweet Harry several years ago and it's still like yesterday for me. English bulldogs are just so very gentle and sweet. I miss mine terribly.

I am so sorry you were there for it all unfolding.

We were lucky to have had Harry for a very long time in Bulldog terms. He died at 14.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....​

Poppinsme...I am so sorry. I know exactly how you feel. We had Oscar- he was AMAZING and on the day of our daughter's 1st communion, he had a heat stroke in our bedroom that was maybe 70 degrees. When we called the vet (emergency hours) he asked us if we left him in a car!!! He took blood & it was nearly black. He gave a him a lot of shots. (This was 5 years ago & I can't remember every detail) He had trouble catching his breath & it was heartbreaking to watch. The doctor sent us home with little hope & he was so kind-definitely realized he was having a heat stroke-temp 107!!! He said to say a prayer & give him the meds. He wanted to send him to Cornell University but Oscar would have heat strokes every ride in the car. He survived 2 months & it was the worst! We tried to contact the breeder b/c our vet did SO many tests & just didn't have any answers to help treat him. The breeder just emailed me back saying that the business had been sold & he had no info on the dog. All we wanted to know was if any of the other dogs had health issues. I didn't want my $$ back-I wanted my dog healthy again. We had him 18 months & although it was a short time, we knew that Oscar knew he was loved- just like your baby. They are not just pets they are members of our family. I hope you find some comfort...

So sad, I just hate that you had to lose your Buddy this way. Please do not blame yourself--you were being a good pet owner, taking him to the vet. You could have had NO way of knowing this could or would happen and you did more to try and save him than most of us are capable of doing. He was lucky to be so loved. I am sorry for your loss.
