My beloved Bulldog died a horrible death at Vets Saturday

I cannot tell you how sorry I am. We also share our lives with a rescue bulldog, Hooch. He’s our 2nd bully…our first passed away at 9 1/2 . I know what that grief is like…just overwhelming. It is terrifying that this happened at your vet’s office. Bulldogs and heat are such a horrible combination. We plan our vacations so we don’t go away when it’s warm (we have an RV) and my biggest fear is of our central air breaking while we aren’t home. I am so sorry. I am so sorry for you. I am fighting back tears right now. I know how devastating it is to lose a beloved animal suddenly. Don't let anyone make you feel silly for being so upset. It is a genuine loss, and you need time to grieve.

My heart breaks for you, I know how horrible it is to lose a beloved pet. Whenever we lost our beagle, we were so upset we called our pastor for guidance and prayer....so I know just how heart breaking this is. Godspeed to you all. What a beautiful, beautiful dog.

Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's difficult enough to lose a member of the family when you're somewhat "prepared". But to just go for a routine checkup and lose him like that. I'm so sorry. And please don't blame yourself. You did everything you could under the circumstances. What a sweet little guy! Thanks for sharing a pic of him. I sent an email to the people that we got Buddy through and the letter I got back was so uplifting. They told me that Buddy had the very best life with us he ever had. He had been not well taken care of by previous owners I guess. That made us feel good that we could give him some happiness.

I am so, so sorry to hear that. My aunt's bulldog - Jill - died the same way. She died from getting overheated, they also tried to save her, but it was too late. It is absolutely heartbreaking when we lose one of our animals, as they are part of our family.

It's so hard to lose a pet. Don't blame yourself, it sounds like you did everything you could. I never knew that bulldogs were so susceptible to heat. Hopefully your story will be a lesson to those who own bulldogs or are considering getting one about the dangers of heat to these animals.

Anyone who has pets would never think any thing about your post funny. MY neibors dog died of the same thing. They forgot he was outside and when they returned it was to late. I lost a pet of 10 years I felt as he was my first child. NOT EASY

Oh Poppins, I am so sorry for your loss. Pet loss is very real and significant grief. I can't imagine being there and seeing it all unfold and not being able to fix it. You did absolutely everything you could, unfortunately the wheels were in motion and it sounds like things happened very quickly. He was a beautiful dog and I can see just from his picture why you and DH loved him so much. Try not to dwell on what you should have done, because it's not going to bring him back. Put your energy instead on memories of how much you loved each other and how lucky you both were to have each other. Ask Bruno to help you get through this.

How fortunate Buddy was to be rescued by folks who loved him so very much. And don't think for one minute he didn't know how loved he was...dogs are very smart.
