For years I’ve had my echo device with me when I travel - it allows me to control devices at home such as turning on and off lights and checking my ring device, etc. It has always just seamlessly accessed wi-fi from my DVC room. Now, on my last trip a couple of weeks ago, it cannot access the in-room Wi-Fi. Anyone know why?

Not sure why it isn't working for you now, it might have to do with how it has to connect to the wifi. Have you tried just using the Alexa app on your phone for all those functions?

Perhaps the in room wifi operates on a different bandwidth. Many older products require a 2.4ghz bandwidth, but 5ghz is taking over.

I had some trouble connecting to wi fi on my ipad in July at both VGF and RIV. It was very spotty. Never had an issue before.

You can't see other devices on that network from other devices you may have. Your 'LAN' in your room isn't a LAN At all. Each device when connected is directly connected and locked to the outside. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. For years, Disney's didn't always work that way. I suspect that's the problem.

2.4 isn't going anywhere and 5gz isn't 'taking over.' Two totally different technologies for two totally different purposes and reasons.

Use the Alexa app on your phone. It will do everything your device will do. And more. Yes. Even control things at home.

My phone is great for me to use, but the echo device is there when the rest of us want that addictive access from across the room without having to grab the phone first. It has always just hooked up to wifi, so something must have changed in the last 8 months since the last time we were at Saratoga. At one time Disney had planned to have Alexa in the rooms, but that seems to have been put on hold. Maybe that has something to do with the changed access.

Sorry for the lengthy “rant”. Thank you for your reply.

I can't seem to get our travel router to connect to the WiFi, but I can get individual devices to connect. Not sure what is up with that or if it is related.
