DAY THREE
Sunday
Sept 9th
Overcast skies; rain rain and more rain....all day - seriously
(view from the WWII Memorial)
Just a quick one from yesterday, I was talking to a rep at the Capitol building about silly customer service stories and she went on to say people were coming up to her and complaining that they were here for their tour but they can’t find their meeting place - one thing lead to another and thru her and Security, they were able to deduce that these people ...who wanted to take a tour of a Capitol building.... were actually thinking they were there to take a tour of their states capitol building .......Oops!!
And with that , let’s spend the day out at the National Mall -rain or no rain....
Rain rain and more rain - gonna b quite an interesting day - gonna try for the postal museum and a few more in pm - stay tuned - I am sooooo over this pesky hurricane ....
But..... I will stress what made the day go by with a smile was Susan; our Tour guide for the day - and I say that with a twist -
It was just her personality looked familiar to me so upon asking - sure enough, she used to work for Disney
(our Trafaglar.com Tour Director is Luke - whose from Dublin Ireland)
having fun - determined to slug it out over this constant rain and I mean cold steady rain .... margaritas and Mexican food Or Sunday night football and Rita’s just may b n my future late this afternoon - ah well , atleast it ain’t 6 degrees C
During the tour, I experienced a few "ah ha" moments that IMO really enhanced the tour. Like, Korean War Memorial - can u spot the person in the air force ? Clue - he’s the one with the smaller pot
2) they wanted 38 but had to settle 19 people.... but ya look at the wall, it will reflect back the 19 ...
We even had someone from our group who had to evacuate their home during the Korean war - very emotionally moving listening to her.
and here is another "ah ha" moment for ya -
3) didja know the top of Lincoln’s Memorial is called the attic?
but I made it a point to see, "Faith, Hope and Charity" memorial - very emotionally moving to see this one.
Due to all this rain, Susan or Luke decided to take us to see the Jefferson memorial
We Were going to go on a DC tour at night optional tour, but due to obvious bad weather, it was canceled so I get a feeling this is why we saw this memorial - again, that was very nice of them.
It’s 68 degrees w 5-8 mph wind and constant rain (was 60 degrees earlier this am with all this rain...UUGGHH!! but..... surprisingly having fun- at castle now - about to take the circulator 4 the first time and check out the postal museum
(now when is the last time you have seen a "Return to sender" stamp??
cont from previous postopcorn::
Reason for this museum
is I wanted to see the small exhibit they have on the mail people onboard the Titanic:
They even have some mail from the Titanic -
-
and they also had some neat things on display on how the mail gets delivered
Been to natural history and American history myseums....
(IMHO, a MUST DO to see this exhibit at the American History museum)
and -
having fun but .... this rain needs ta go away-
ANYWHO -
saw my very first old fashion fire truck -
and how about those Tucker cars?
and
about ta wrap things up ... head back 2 the Renaissance .... wring out my socks and shoes from all that rain and go next door for some Rita’s and Sun night football
Ask away at Mount Vernon like I did and the Tour Guide did say they do have national treasure tours and yes , they did film using both tombs (I was always curious about that ) and yes they filmed when Vernon was open and they had to use lights to simultate time of day - way cool!
And yes , the tunnel scene was filled in the basement of mount Vernon while the big black door that the Prez crawled out of?......
and -
That’s movie magic (I thought it was the entrance to the old crypt)
From the i didn’t know that file - how we did amputations during battle of Yorktown vs the civil war really didn’t change much - just were more successful -
(where her left hand is......go forward a few inches and thats the instrument they would use to weaken severly the artery in a Human Beings limb, then amputation would proceed.... WICKED! I would hate to be the one to have to hold down said patient!
ANYWHO -
About to wrap it up and head off to Colonial Williamsburg
Am on the lookout for a bottle of local wine as just heard the news that we are a gonna get hit with a Ton rain tomorrow.....hurricane Florence .... go away
About ta head off for some much needed dinner inside Colonial Williamsburg
and -
(dinner by candlelight - how cool is that)
pppsssttt!!!
and look who is waiting for us to play some music while we disembark the motor coach while heading off to dinner-
Tuesday Sept 11th
70% chance of afternoon rain
( and 30% chance of sun)
91% humidity
and this time its
"Wakey Wakey, time for eggs and......orange juice
Had too much fun last night at the Kings Arms in Colonial Williamsburg - luved it! Now Luke our tour guide (from Ireland) all had us laughing and giggling as we were driving back to the hotel with his singing.... Now I will admit I was jjjuussstttt a wee bit tipsy and wasnt quick enough to get his singing on video .... but it kinda reminded me of when I had a ton of fun crashing a wedding party over in Galway Bay a few years ago.... at 4am -
YES.....he does have a pretty good voice and can carry a tune - IM IMPRESSED!
ANYWHO...................
SO whats up for today????
Well, the first place we are gonna check out is Jamestown -
I will admit having fun st Jamestown but getting schooled st the same time / fun tour guide I say ....details coming up
and -
(IMO, it was so much information overload but it does make sense on how the inner exchange of commerce and such grew and grew as well as how and why Jamestown was settled)
