My 2nd time at Saratoga Springs

I stayed at Saratoga Springs Resort for the first time in March.

We were in the Paddocks right next to the bridge and the pool. Room was great- clean, comfortable, location.

We loved it so much we bought into DVC for that property right then and there.

We went back this past weekend (July26th-30th) and had a very different time.

We were, again, put in the Paddocks, but on the complete opposite side of the first stay. (We used the Carousal bus stop because it was closer then the Paddocks bus stop).

I requested to be near a pool- that was it. Didn't care what part of the resort we were at, just near a pool since we were there to enjoy the resort over the parks this trip. We were not at all near a pool.

Though we didn't care for the location, that wasn't the kill joy for us.

The sofa sleeper was so bad it would have been more comfortable on the floor. We weren't expecting it to be like a mattress or anything, but there was no padding left in what was there. The bar was in your back and it bowed so bad in the middle we had to put the sofa cushions under the legs to bring it up straight! We called for egg crates and then had to call again for more just to make it bearable.

We ended up calling in the morning to change rooms because we got no sleep and had stiff backs (I volunteered to sleep on the sofa sleeper because nothing ever bothers me!).

They moved us to Springs, great spot. We were happy to be closer to the main features of the resort and the main pool.

We brought our egg crates with us from the other room just incase, but as long as it wasn't broken (it wasn't) it was an improvement.

We walked in the second room and BAM! Hit with the strongest, most overpowering smell of cleaning product (either clorox or bleach- whatever they use). I mean, HOLY COW. We opened up the sliding glass doors to air things out and unpacked again. After an hour, we decided to go try the restaurant. We closed up and turned the air on. When we came back- the smell was no better, the room was DRIPPING in condensation (even the TV screen was wet) and mixed in with the clorox smell was a wet musty smell. My guess was mold somewhere, but I don't want to assume when i don't know for sure.

It was like that for the rest of our stay, things were wet and cool (air conditioning) or wet and humid (tried having doors open and fan on). No in-between.

One last complaint-
The lights in the bathroom are energy saving lights so they took a few minutes to "heat up" and brighten things. The bathroom is not the place to have those kind of bulbs because there are no windows--- there is no other source of light. Waiting for the lights to LIGHT UP the room while trying to use the toilet or shower is not fun.

So sorry to hear about your stay - I will be there in two sleeps :cool1: and can't wait. We stayed in the Grandstand, which is a bit newer, last October, and that's where my BFF and I requested this trip. If that had been my DH, he would have kept requesting to move until the room was to his satisfaction - we usually stay for two weeks, so he wants to be happy with where we spend a lot of our time. Hopefully your next trip is better, maybe you could try another DVC resort. We change every year just for something different - our favourite is Old Key West, but only if it's a one bedroom or larger.

I am staying here for the first time in September in a 2BR. We usually stay at Yacht or Beach Club but wanted the extra space. I have been reading lots of reviews which are causing me concern with my resort choice. I really hope we get a good room in a good location ... Guess I will keep worrying till we actually arrive and check in :(

Funny you should mention the lights - I forgot about that, it was annoying. Same thing happened with the sofabed for us too. We were in Paddock, were you on the top floor in a 1BR facing the "pond" with the fountain?

Sorry that happened. Since you own DVC you can go to plenty of other fun resorts! Enjoy!

No need to worry - like I posted earlier, we stayed in a 2 bedroom at SSR in October in the Grandstand area and had no issues whatsoever - my DD slept on the pullout sofa in the living room, and didn't need any extra padding. Room had no issues, and we enjoyed our time there. When you get into your villa, don't unpack, check everything out first and make sure it's up to par - if there are any issues, go right back to the front desk and voice your concerns and ask to be moved - they will usually have no issues with reassigning a different room to you. Get excited and enjoy - it is a really beautiful place to stay!:thumbsup2

Sorry you didn't like SSR. It's our favorite resort...beats the Poly by a mile IMHO. If you didn't like the bathroom lights I feel for you; my DH replaced a bunch of lights in our house with those bulbs and I can't wait for them to burn out so I can get real light bulbs.

OMG too funny-my DH bought those lights too-I told him ya there is a reason they are cheaper no one wants them!!!!!! LOL!

We stayed at SSR once and we were not big fans- we had alot of issues there and we are not really picky.

We had a similar experience at SSR. We won't be back. Plus sofabeds just aren't beds in my opinion. We've tried them over and over and just can't have any luck with them.

:sad2: That's too bad you didn't have a good experience this time around in SSR... We have always had a great stay there. I wouldn't give up on it though! I think it's a great resort!

It stinks you were assigned such horrible rooms. I think I would have insisted on changing rooms until I got something decent. Its too bad the sofa sleeper was wearing so badly, I hope its not happening to lots of them. Our last stays at SSR were in Jan. and April 2010, the sofa pullouts were fine and the rooms had no problems. Strong cleaning chemical odor would set my allergies off! Such bad rooms are very unusual, especially two in a row, and you shouldn't experience that again. I would call Member Services and leave feedback about the room quality. Hope your next vacation goes smoother!

Its a shame to hear this because i own at SSR and while yes i do try other resorts i love the 2br at the Springs it was clean and convenient anc comfortable.

Our first trip to SSR was with our in-laws in a 1BR. My DW and I slept on the sofa bed. I vowed them that no one over 18 should ever have to sleep on them. No that we are owners when we take family down we try to get everyone a bedroom, if not, the youngest gets the sofa bed. Age has its privileges!
