She was playing in the baby carseat that we've gotten out to put in the car and apparently lost her balance when she got out and slammed into the floor. We have laminate flooring, so there's no cushion. She split her bottom lip, not a long cut but very wide. I took her to the pediatrician and he said to go to the ER since it was on the pink part of the lip and on the skin. He said he didn't feel confident enough that he could line it up right. So, off to the ER. Thankfully, she is a little trooper and stopped crying shortly after it happened. The ER actually got us in and out in under 2 hours. They used a numbing gel that took a while to take effect. So they left us in the room with a cotton ball taped to her lip! She looked at me and said, "can we go now?". Sorry honey, not yet. She got three stitches and that gel must have worked because she didn't flinch once. She looked in the mirror and felt them and said, "I like them".

She fell asleep on the way home and has been sleeping on and off since. She won't take the Tylonal I offered, although she has woken up crying a few times. I'm hoping we're not in for a long night.

My 5 year old dd says she is not going to look at her sister until the stitches are out! (in 5 days) She apparently doesn't like the looks of them!

Please keep my little one in your prayers, it stinks when your kids get hurt.

Oh, yeah. Last night she had gotten into her sister's lip gloss and put it in her hair. I have washed it, but the stuff is like vaseline so her hair is still all greasy. I felt like I kept having to explain what happened, it looks like I haven't washed her hair in months!

So sorry to hear about her injury. Hugs to her. Dawn dish detergent is great at getting vaseline out of hair. Just be careful about her eyes.

Poor baby.:(

We have had our share of trips to the ER for stitches. It's never fun.

I hope that your DD rests comfortably tonight.:sunny:

:( Poor baby. I know how scary it is to have a little one get stitches. My DD got hit in the head by a swingset glider when she was 4 and had to get them.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

almost exactly a year ago DS 1 1/2 then had to get stitches above his eye :o He fell forward onto one of thos toys with all the beads on top (like at the dr's office). All this just two weeks after I had to take him to the ER for a fall down two steps (hit head very hard). I felt like the WORST mother in the entire world. Sounds like your DD was a real trooper just giver her lots of love and she will be fine.

I feel for your little one! My 2 year old DD got 5 stitches 4 weeks ago...just above her eye. Due to the nature of the puncture wounds(dog nails), a plastic surgeon had to do the stitching. Toddlers are soooo resilient...so don't worry! She will forget about it right away and it will heal fast too!
PD and prayers to you and your little princess for a speedy recovery!

I think all parents are required to go through the stitches ordeal at least once. When I was your daughter's age I managed to get through "child proof" packaging in ten seconds flat and almost cut off the tip of my thumb with a razor blade. :faint:

Kids are so resilient though. Apparently my first words after they put me back together were "this thumb is too big for me!" because it swelled up so much. If I did it now I'd be a basket case for days. :p

Hope your daughter feels better. :wave2:

Aww, Ellen, always sad to see the little ones hurting. Glad she seems to be doing okay though. My best for her, you too. Let us know if your 5 year old peeks, LOL. :)

Oh the poor baby! Sounds like she was very brave!::yes::

Hope your DD feels better! I remember the first time I got stitches, I had fallen out of a club house (one of those made out of wood, that you see at like Scotty's or whatever), and hit my head on the edge of the sandbox....splitting it wide open.

I do not remember getting the stitches, I didn't feel anything except that it felt they were playing with my hair. When I got them taken out, I told my mom, "I'm sure glad they got those spiders out of my hair!!"

:)

Oh, I can emphathize with you there. My boys have split parts of their faces open on several different occasions. My 4 year old actually ruined several shirts of mine by bleeding, from the head, THREE times in SEVEN days. Only one of those actually required stitches. I'll tell you, that boy is worth the money we pay for insurance all by himself.

Oh, and baby powder will take grease/oil out as well.

Lori P. :)

I'm so sorry! I hope she is feeling better soon and has a good, restful night tonight. PD to you and to her!

Bless her heart! I'm so glad that the numbing gel worked for her.
