We have always found it very important to be properly-soled at WDW. In the past, we've experimented with sneakers, flip-flops and Crocs. The Crocs are nice, but, call me a weird-do, but my feet actually feel a little too dry when I wear them. I don't like sweaty feet, but I don't like them to be super dry either. My husband hates them. His feet are wide at the toes and Crocs squish them together, I guess. He wears slides to work but he just can't do the Crocs brand. My Bigs like the idea of Crocs and the little Jibbitz, but they really haven't taken a shine to wearing them. Now the Wee-man pretty much ONLY wears them (we have an outlet not far from here and we only buy the $10 sale Crocs). He likes them because he can take them off himself when he wants and we put a Mickey Mouse on his orange ones. He loves MM!! Suffice it to say, he will be rocking them in WDW even though his shoe choice is kind of irrelevant since he will be in a stroller most of the time.

DH hates flip-flops; he hates stuff to be between his toes. He will probably wear his sneakers or some leather slides.

But, I...I will be wearing the lovely discovery that I made last year and yes, I am finally ready to share it with the world:

comfortthongs.jpg

Nike Comfort Thongs. Ahhhh!!:cloud9: I love flip-flops but it never fails: you WILL get a blister if you wear them to WDW. But not these puppies. They are cushioned on the sole and under the thong. I switched between two pairs last year (thanks, BOGO free!) and nary a blister did I get. My feet stayed cool and dry (well, the right balance for me) and no worrying about wet socks (my #1 pet peeve:headache:).
My two pair will be with me again this year but have been well-worn so I may treat myself to a new pink pair.

I bought the Bigs some tennis shoes and they are busy wearing them in. For DD7, she has some of these (in pink, of course):

adidas.jpg

And for DS6, he got two pair. These for the ultra-retro-coolness:cool2:

nikes.jpg

And these, because they match DH's:

asics.jpg

I also carry a foot-first-aid kit with me like the UG recommends, with moleskin, band aids, scissors and some pain reliever. Your trip is pretty much ruined if you get a blister in the beginning.

I'm also debating the stroller issue. I have a Schwinn jogging stroller, which works great on various terrains but is NOT made for tight spaces. It has a bag compartment at the bottom and is just the right height for me and DH. I seriously don't seeing us folding it up on the bus.

We also have a Jeep umbrella stroller which folds up nicely, but has nowhere to hang bags and :scared1: NO CUP HOLDERS!! It also doesn't recline and I'm sure at some point my 2 year old will be knocked out in the parks. No shade either. It is a little lower in height than the jogging stroller. I am tall for a woman and I find most jogging strollers to be uncomfortable to push. Plus I want cup holders!!!!!!!!!

I sold our combo stroller in a garage sale ($20 and it was 7 years old...I call that a win). It had 2 cup holders, a roomy bag compartment, reclined and had a lovely snack tray for baby plus a nice shade. Old Trusty made THREE WDW appearances, but it had seen its day. Truth be told, I was hoping I could get a new one, especially if we have a #4.

We could rent. It's definitely on my radar. I don't think DH would go for it though. It's a little on the not cheap side. We would save a lot of trunk space for our drive down if we did. Just another thing to consider for our trip to WDW!!

Speaking of walking, I have started walking/jogging in the mornings. I'm doing about 1.75 miles pushing the jogging stroller. I hope this helps the poundage move away quicker. This also should get my tootsies nice and tough for those long park days!

I am looking forward to having dates! How is your nephew doing? It truly IS amazing how they affect each person differently...and yet, so similar in many cases.

Your road trip plans sound like ours...:headache: just thinking about it...but YOUR reward is DISNEY! :woohoo:

You would never know he's sick unless you saw the scars on his chest or when you notice how quickly he gets sweaty and tired from playing outside. Otherwise, he is just like any 5 year old. He will still need at least one more open heart surgery in a few more years. Does your DD get tired easily?

She does...but she is the same way, in spite of all of the medical stuff...people are always amazed when they A) see her before they know her history and then find out how "sick" she is or B) know her history and THEN see her...we know many more open heart surgeries are in her future...but, she doesn't let that stop her from living life to it's fullest...we could all take a lesson and learn something form these brave children...they don't let anything stand in their way, do they? What a Blessing! :goodvibes

I have been so busy this past week getting ready for Wee's 2nd birthday party. We had it last night...our house had over 50 people celebrating a Mickey Mouse themed party. He loved it and I am glad it's done! Whew!! Now I can get back to immersing myself in Disney planning. I almost have my plans in place.

Oh, I changed an ADR. Instead of doing Kouzzina on Saturday at 8, we are going to do Tutto Italia at 5:20. I thought this might work out nicely for us to try some lounge snacks later on. Eating so late most night has us getting back to BC too late to enjoy some of those apps in the evening so I thought since we'll be in Epcot, we'd be there in time to enjoy some.

I thought I'd do a post on the rides that I want to do, but never try. I usually hit the headliners, but there are a million little rides that we've never done in WDW and I think they'd be great to try on those days when things are a bit crowded at the big rides.

I'll start with Animal Kingdom. It is my least favorite park, but that may be because we've never fully explored it. None of us are really animal people and I've never really liked AK because it seemed dirty. I know they are going for authenticity which is why it seems that way, but I like paved streets and lots of a/c (think Main Street, USA).
AK
Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
Maharajah Jungle Trek--Both of these are zoo-ish, which the kids like
Flights of Wonder--I want to make this a priority. I think it would be so neat!!
Finding Nemo--Another priority. I just think this would be fascinating.
We've also only done Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest once, never with kids. For the record, both of the Bigs have informed me that they won't be riding "that Yeti ride." Weinies!!! We're going to try it once, even though we'll have to Baby Swap.

DHS--Since this used to be my fave, I've done pretty much everything but:
Walt Disney: One Man's Dream--I love museum type attractions and could spend all day looking at this kind of stuff.
Beauty and the Beast--I'd like to see this if by some miracle I don't have to wait forever to get a seat. I've never seen it (even though I ADORE the movie) but if I can't swing it, I'll survive.
Star Tours--If it's open, it will be a must-do!! The Bigs have never done it and even though the old one gave me a headache, I gotta try the new one at least once.
Indiana Jones--DH and I have seen it before, but the kids have never and DS is just getting into to Indy. I'll definitely put this at the top of the list.
Animation Academy--DS wanted to do this last time and I'd be up for it, too. DS loves to draw. If we could somehow learn something besides Stitch, I think DD would like it, too.

Epcot--
Mission Space: The Wimp Version. I am extremely prone to motion sickness (no Dumbo for me) but I heard the green version (? orange?) is not that bad. DS has a space-themed bedroom and when I told him about this ride, he thought we really went into space. He was scared until I semi-explained it to him.
Maelstrom--Never did it! I love rides with drops, so I think I'm gonna have to do it.
Journey Into Imagination--I love that kind of science-y stuff.
Innoventions--We've done this a few times, but I'd like to give it a good thorough exploration. Plus, a big room full of a/c is heaven on muggy May days.
Living with the Land--I am an amateur gardener. This would be a good way to while away the time while we waited for a Soarin' FP time.
Universe of Energy--I'd like to do this, but it's a little lower on the priority list. If time allows, I'm all for it.

Magic Kingdom--
Hall of Presidents--My bigs are finally old enough to appreciate it. My son can finally see who shot Abe Lincoln (he told me a few days ago that our 1st President shot Lincoln). I've never seen it.
Jungle Cruise--I've never done this and I'll be glad that we can all do it together without baby swapping.
Swiss Family Treehouse--Love it! If I can make the Bigs rewatch the movie before we go, we'll definitely give it a shot. They've never been in it.
Pirates--DH and I have both ridden it, but I have not taken my kids on it.:guilty: Shame and embarassment, I know. DS loves Will Turner.
Tom Sawyer's Island--I see a 2-year-old on a monkey leash happily running around TSI after hours in a stroller! None of us have ever done it.
PeopleMover--We've never done it. If time permits, I want to try it.

I also want to fit in a MK parade. Enchanted Tiki Room is an attraction we've never done either, but it will be under rehab for our trip. Womp, womp, womp.:sad2:

I'm going to put these in a list so we can try to hit as many as we can in the afternoons after we've hit the headliners. Can you believe I've been to WDW 5x and have still missed so much? WDW is infinite, I tell ya!

Hello, readers! I am happily immersing myself in my Disney planning. Spring cleaning is also starting today. My kids are home today on a school break, so we are going to go through all the clothes and get rid of the ones that don't fit. I just recently discovered, after doing ALL the laundry in the house:laundy: that if it is all clean, we don't have room to put it all. Mom said that's a good excuse to get behind on laundry.

To start this post, here is a picture of Wee at his 2nd birthday party. It had a Mickey theme. Here he is modeling his Mickey sunglasses he got as a gift:

weesbday.jpg

I have never met a 2 year-old so good about wearing hats and glasses. He will keep them on for a while.

Yesterday, I caved and finally made some purchases for our trip. I got a new stroller. I found it at Baby Depot; it met all my stroller requirements: cupholders (2 at the top, one on the snack tray), reasonable height (I hate slouching to push a stroller), basket on the bottom, reclines and folds compact. The snack tray also opens like a door for easy insertion and removal of small people. It's called a Baby Trend Passport and it was only $50.

I had to take DD to the bookstore yesterday to get a book for her book report and oops, I ended up in the travel section:rolleyes1 Even though I have UG 2010, I caved and bought UG with kids 2011. I needed some good touring plans, ok??!! Even though what I've read so far is exactly like the one I already have, looking forward to the attractions section I can tell that there will be some stuff I haven't seen yet. So now I have something to do on this rainy day!

My Disney Vacation Planning DVD came in last week, but I have not gotten around to watching it yet. That surprises me. But I really have been busy. I guess I'm just after some delayed gratification

68 days until we leave!!:cool1::dance3::cool1:
Yes, I have been plugging away at our itinerary. My family does well on a schedule and since our party will be fairly small for a change, I think we will get much more done than last time. I am going to try to follow Ultimate Guide's Touring Plans as close as possible with a few changes...of course, we will have to do Baby Swap for some of our favorite rides and I am going to build in some play time for Wee (and the Bigs, too. They love playgrounds as much as any 2 year-old). As the time approaches, I will get our TPs down but right now, I think I have a rough itinerary together. Here goes!

Tuesday, May 17th--This day will be bittersweet. Sweet because we are leaving for WDW but bitter because my First Buddy, DS, will be graduating Kindergarten:

S5001409.jpg
:

I have no idea what time it will be (rest assured, that is driving me nutsola), but I am assuming mid-morning. DD will go to school as usual and I am guessing the graduation will last an hour or so. DD is in the same school as her brother, so immediately after the graduation, we will check her out of school. She is pretty thrilled that she gets to end school at the same time as her brother. Around here, kindergartners start school a week later and finish a week earlier than older kids. She was not happy about that:mad: So my best guesstimate is that we'll be on the road by 12. I will have everything packed and ready to go so we'll leave straight from school to the road. According to Mapquest, the drive is 9 hrs. 40 minutes. Adding an hour for stops/gas/potty, we'll be there around 11:40 pm EST. Oh, how I wish I was flying!!!

I am still not sure where we will stay that night, but since we are planning on getting up early to check in at BC, I was thinking we'd stay super-near WDW, like at maybe one of the Downtown Disney Hotels. Somewhere cheap but clean is all I ask.

Ideally, we'd be in bed around 12:15 am...no unpacking necessary. I pack a "one-night" bag so all we have to do is change and go.

Wednesday, May 18--Depending on how things go, we may sleep to around 8:30. This is probably going to be impossible for me...as soon as the teensiest bit of sun is up, I will be raring to go. DD is my little rooster, so I am sure she'll be up with the sun, too. DH is the wildcard. If we manage to get up early, we'll check out ASAP and head to check in at BC!!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if our room's not ready. My plan is to get our tickets, leave our luggage with Bell Services and hop on the boat to DHS. I want to do this as early as possible since the weekend is going to be the first Star Wars' Weekend:darth: and I'm SURE it's going to be packed, especially if Star Tours is ready. We'll probably hit some of the more minor rides since it will be late in the day and maybe ToT and RnRC.

We'll probably eat lunch in DHS--I like Backlot Express but my kids would love to try Pizza Planet.

As soon as our room's ready, we'll go back to the hotel and get settled. If we have time, we may go to Epcot. At 6:30 pm, we will need to be in our car headed to Hoop-De-Doo for our 7:15 ADR. After HDD, we'll spend the rest of the time exploring our resort.

***Alternative to Day 1***TP has the crowd level at 2 at WDW. Depending on whether or not this changes, we may spend the whole day at Epcot since it is right near our resort since it's a Morning EMH for DHS. That will make it much easier to go back when our room is ready anyway. Maybe we would spend Day 2 evening (Thursday) in DHS. What say you?

Itinerary for Thursday, May 19
Magic Kingdom has Morning EMH from 8-9 am. While we've never made it for EMH rope drop, we've always made it close and I must say, I'm a convert!! Every time we've done this, we've been able to hit the Fantasyland Four--Dumbo, Pooh, Peter Pan and Snow White before the park even opens to the public and then be at Frontierland or Tomorrowland for the Mountains. So that is the plan this time and after that, we'll hit the smaller attractions when the park is busy. We'll stay 'til lunch...we may do an early lunch at the park or we may do it at BC. We like Cosmic Ray's, but last time it was C-R-A-Z-Y busy and they wouldn't let us sit down unless we had trays. Meaning, I had to haul a 1-year-old (No strollers!) around while DH secured our food. Annoying. :headache: So this time, we'll probably hit Pecos Bill if we're in MK.

After lunch, I feel sure we will need a nap. Nothing tires me out more than a morning at MK. After we have a nap, we will probably hang out at the pool or in the CL lounge until around 3 or 4 pm. Then we will drive to DHS and spend the evening. We'll leave DHS around 7:45 and drive to AKL for our 8:30 ADRs at Boma. I love Boma.:lovestruc I think I need to write a sonnet to Boma. Boma, sweet Boma, thy yummy African cuisine calls my name.

I really like how this day works out. Wait 'til you hear my plans for Friday. I have something up my sleeve;)

Please promise you will not leave AK without seeing the Nemo show. It is wonderful and you will not regret it. I have been working on my list of my attractions I o not want to miss also. That is such a great idea! ;)

And well done on your Disney shopping. Isn't that fun??

I missed the last few updates b/c I guess I forgot to actually suscribe when I joined. :confused3

Anyway, all caught up now. We will be at Boma on the 19th too. We will be there at 7:30 since I want to make it to the Harry Potter section of Universal early that morning. Maybe we'll see you while we are running out of there. I think we have Tutto the same night too. I have changed my ADRs so many times I forget what time it is. I think 6:15?

Thanks for posting about the Nike comfort thongs. I love flip flops but got blisters early in my trip last year when wearing the Teva mush. I will have to check them out.:thumbsup2

A good 25% of the fun of Disney is the pre-shopping! I am really pleased with the stroller. I am going to test it out today.

Thank you for backing me up on the Nemo show. Everytime I've seen a clip or picture of it, I am smacking myself over not seeing it yet. I will skip FOTLK and Kilmanjaro Safaris before I miss it this time!

I will keep an eye out for you. Our Tutto ADR is for 5:20 (I think), so we should see each other there too. Will you have a LGMH?

I highly recommend that Nike flip flops. I am going to buy pairs #3 and #4 today. I have worn my others so much through the year that they are getting worn. I think flip-flops look better with shorts, anyway, but I'll always go for comfort first in Disney, know what I mean?

On Monday, the kids were out of school for a teacher workday, so we took the opportunity to travel to the coast to the Disney Store/Outlet. Wee loved it and recognized so many characters. While we were looking at t-shirts, he reached out from his stroller and grabbed a Perry hat and put it on. So cute:lovestruc

Anyway, the store had some stuff from Disneyland on sale and I was able to score some stuff for cheap. I bought DD a princess autograph book ($5!)and she bought herself a big fat princess pen that should be perfect for autographs. She is going to let only princesses/fairies sign it. She has another from last year that she will use for the other characters. She also got a Tangled shirt and Tangled sunglasses.

DS picked out two Mickey/Pluto shirts and a Phineas and Ferb sunglasses. Wee got a Mickey tee as well. I found a Disney Organizing Binder on sale, too, so I have something to put piles of WDW planning paperwork in. I also bought a Professor Ludwig Von Drake doll. He was only $3.99!! How often are you going to find one of those!!??:woohoo:

So that little shopping expedition definitely got the kids in the mood for Disney. I bought them the reusable shopping bags for their travel bags (DD got a Minnie and DS got 101 Dalmatians). As soon as we got home, DS grabbed his bag and packed it with every Disney book and coloring book in his room and was ready to store it in my closet 'til we leave.

On to my Friday itinerary...

Friday, May 20
We have ADRs at Tusker House for 8:15. Meaning we will have to be out the door by 7:30. I'm not sure if we will drive or not. AK parking lot is oppressively hot but so is the bus line. The park doesn't open 'til 9 which means we will be in the park early. This should make for some pretty efficient touring in AK that morning. If we starting touring by 9:30, by about 12:30, we will leave the park for our hotel for a little freshening up and then...

We are going to tea!! I booked us a tea at the Garden View Cafe in the GF at 2:20. Since we're not doing anything princess-y, I thought DD would really go for something like this. She loves new experiences!! DS will enjoy it too. I booked it for 5 people, but I have given DH the option of staying at the hotel and taking a nap with Wee. I have the funniest feeling that he will choose the nap.:lmao:

I left the evening open. The kids may want to swim or watch the movie on the beach at BC. If they want to do a park, we'll hit MK and then maybe Epcot for 9-12 EMH. I'm thinking we'll definitely want to do the EMH since it's a short walk over. I have a potential sleep late day for Saturday anyway. I know what we won't be doing---DHS! I have a feeling it's going to be crazy:scared1: since Star Tours is opening.

I'm really looking forward to the tea!!

The tea sounds fantastic! I would love to do that some time.

Ha, I'll be in DHS May 20. I am not looking forward to the crowds but hopefully it will be a fun day. You are smart to be skipping it that day:thumbsup2 I am really looking foward to being at BC for that weekend so we can just walk back to the resort when DHS gets too busy.

Don't you have a little girl? It would be perfect. I have a feeling it's going to be one of my favorite experiences of the trip. We all love trying new things.
If I was a die-hard Star Wars fan, I'd probably be in DHS on Saturday too. My boys like it but they dislike crowds more. I am hoping I can hit ST on Monday.

Note to Self: Make kids watch the Star Wars movies again and Indiana Jones too.

Saturday, May 21

Depending on whether or not we stayed late for Epcot EMH Friday night, we may sleep late Saturday. If not, we'll try to make rope drop for MK. We'll probably tour for a short while and eat an early lunch in MK/hotel/WS then head back to the hotel to nap and hang out in the lounge. By 4:00 or so, we'll be heading to Epcot to tour World Showcase and get ready for our 5:20 ADR at Tutto Italia. After that, we'll tour WS some more (maybe do some Kim Possible missions...this right up the alley of my Bigs) and stay for Illuminations. This might also be a good time to explore the Boardwalk.

Sunday, May 22
I want to make AK rope drop on this day. AK has morning EMH, so we'll try to be there by 7:30 (meaning we have to be up by at least 6:45...my kids can eat and be ready in 15 minutes...wonderful talent!!). We'll probably grab some breakfast in the Club Lounge. In AK, we'll hit anything we haven't done yet and revisit our favorites. We'll eat lunch at FT or I might order a picnic in the park in the morning. If we need rest, we'll be back at our hotel around 1 or 2, hang out at the pool for a few hours then head to MK for the evening (by 5). This evening is a Main Street Electrical parade night and it starts at 9. I realized this after we had 8:15 ADRs at Crystal Palace. I tried to change it but the only other available time was 8:20. I REALLY want to see MSEP, so I am researching where it begins and ends in hopes that we can catch the end of the parade. I don't want to give up our CP ressies. We may just show up early in hopes that we can get seated earlier. We'll definitely stay for Wishes. MK has evening EMH too, so this might be a good time to get a few extra rides on the Mountains.

Monday, May 23
Departure Day:sad1:
Since my DH has Tuesday off as well, we have a little room to play. I'd like to to DHS this day to see if we can't ride the refurbished Star Tours at least once. As long as we leave by around 7 in the evening, we should be able to drive 4 hours and stay in a hotel that night. As far as other park plans go, we'll just play it by ear.

So that is a rough draft of my plans. I'll probably have some alterations as we get closer, especially once I found out what time DS's Kindergarten graduation is. I'm going to get more specific with our plans using TP later on as well, but I will keep an eye on the crowd calendar to help with that.

Your plans for the weekend look great!

My DD loves Star Wars so unfortunately two of my weekend days are devoted to SWW. I don't really mind though b/c we get to eat at Sci-fi twice at DD request. I love that place.

I wish I could talk DH into going there again. I really liked the restaurant and just because you have one so-so dish doesn't mean they are all bad! I think the kids would love it.

Only time for a Quick note ( I am cooking dinner). I wanted to let you know I am still reading! ;) I will be back. :goodvibes

Glad you are still reading! I noticed your extra 6 lb loss. That is just great:thumbsup2. Please send some of your weight loss vibes my way. I am not doing so great:sad2:.

Just got done reading your PTR and am just loving. I love the stroll down memory lane. But since it is after midnight I should be gettint to bed.:rotfl2:

We will be going later in May. I had actually already booked the trip for my eldest son's 9th birthday trip when I relized that it was on Memorial Day Weekend.:scared1: Oh well, hoping everything works out for the best.:confused3

I know what you mean about tring to loose weight for your trip. I was so excited about booking the trip when I suddenly relized that with the winter we just had that I have done little exercise. So I started hitting the mall and walking as much as I can. Looking at the pictures of our last trip also put me in mind to loose some weight (though I was pregnant at the time)
I lost about a pound when I changed my diet and realy tried. Well, I have lost 11 pounds in 5 weeks and am very happy. I still want to loose at least 15 more before WDW, and more after that, but at least it's a start. I've been walking to Disney music on my MP3. I downloaded CD's from the library.:guilty:

can't wait to read more.
