:rolleyes1Im hesitant to even post this -- as I fear Ill get flamed. Im usually not a rule breaker, I dont try to cheat systems, I dont mind paying for a 3 year old even though they are only 3yrs and one week, overall I dont agree breaking rules to benefit yourself... HOWEVER (we saw that coming didnt we)

I decided to highjack my parents vacation in September. I realized I had a few extra vacation days so I am going to join them Thursday-Sunday. My stepdad is notorious for 'corny jokes'... Whispering Canyon Cafe would be RIGHT UP HIS ALLEY. He and my mom are also huge "meat eaters" -- and the skiller would be RIGHT UP THEIR ALLEY!

This is their first trip, and I just wanted everything to go perfectly for them.

I was unable to get an ADR for Dinner @ WCC. All I could get was 2:40. Im disappointed because the lunch skillet seems less impressive than the dinner skillet. Im also worried the "fun" wont be as intense during lunch as it is dinner.

Ok, Im beating around the bush. I can take the flames, tell me what you honestly think. (I already know the answer)

What do you think would happen if we were "20 minutes late" and missed lunch. By the time we got there at 3, it would be dinner and we could order off the dinner menu.
:confused::confused::guilty::sad2::guilty::rolleyes::rolleyes1:littleangel:

I wouldnt flame you for that:littleangel: I did want to let you know, that unless they recently changed the hours, lunch is over at 3 & dinner starts at 5.

If you're sure dinner menu starts at 3 then I would arrive for my 2:40 reservation and explain to the host or hostess that you prefer the dinner menu and would it be possible to seat you after 3 or if you were seated at 2:40 would it be a problem to order off dinner menu.

I don't think there would be a problem if you want to order off dinner menu especially since they start serving it within 20minutes.

I agree dinner is more rowdy at WCC - and though you may be able to order from dinner menu at 3 - I don;t know if you can expect the it to be as lively as if you went at 5 or 6.

Also, if I were you I would keep trying to see if I can get a reservation at a later time - people do cancel at last minute. Also check online reservations. I did this and saw Kona was open on a day and time I wanted. I called WDW dine within 10 minutes of looking online because I needed to also cancel a reservation. When I asked for Kona they didn't have the time I wanted. I mentioned that I was just online and the time and day were available and she double checked and looked somewhere else in her computer and lo and behold she found the reservation I wanted.

Good luck

Just call ahead and ask them if you can order off of the dinner menu at lunch. Sometimes it's not a problem at all. (I hear it more frequently ordering off of the lunch menu at dinner), but it's not impossible that they'd let you do the opposite.

I wouldn't give up hope. Keep trying to get the time you'd like. I have been trying for the past 40 days to get an ADR I need and today I GOT IT . Don't give up hope you never know.
But on w/ your question...Lots of people show up late for ADR's. And as a pp said I would ask for hte dinner menu when you arrive.

They are closed from 3 to 5 as far as I know. Maybe you should call to make sure.

I just wanted to add that we did go for lunch during Easter Week. It was not as fun as dinner. We did have a late lunch so there were only a few other tables filled. The server was so so and did not interact much with us and the 4 kids under age 4 that we had with us. (no between table interaction either)

We usually end up waiting about 1/2 to get seated when we are on time for an ADR at WCC. It's just a busy place!

me and my DH ate there for lunch before and got the skillet. We were on the deluxe plan so we got salads and desserts too. The milkshake machine was broken so i ended up w/ a smoothie. I asked if they could sub pulled pork in place of the sausage and they did, but said that they wouldnt give any refills on the pork. Then they brought out the sausage anyway. It was astonishing how much food they brought with the skillet!!! The only difference i believe w/ the dinner skillet is the pork and the price. They give you tons of food, from what i can remember we had: big salad, tons of cornbread, ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, chicken, pulled pork, smoked sausage, really good mashed potatoes and chocolate cake. It was all so awesome! I too noticed the 2 hour gap between lunch and dinner. With a 2:40pm i wouldnt get there toooo late. As far as the antics, we didnt have kids, perhaps that's why the waitress didnt do anything. We did see another waiter do some though. Lunch was not busy that day either. Have a fun time, arrive Hungry!

It sounds like you are just getting under the gun for the lunch service. If it is like other resturants--they will not serve again until 5 p.m. It might get a little quieter then due to no reservations between 3-5. I would try to get something after 5 p.m. if you want the dinner. This same thing happens at
Liberty Tree Tavern at MK. They stop serving lunch at 3 p.m. and then reopen for dinner at 4 p.m. During that time the lunch crowd sort of dies down and they get ready for the dinner crowd.

I may be wrong but I believe I read that a restaurant will only hold an ADR for 15 minutes past time. So if you show up 20 minutes past time you may not be accepted. Like pp said I would keep trying to get a later time. People change their minds all the time and you may luck into an later ADR.

Good luck

Okay, since you have to go hyper-carnevore on us here, let me throw out a suggestion. Cancel the lunch ADR and just show-up at WCC just before 5:00 pm, and get wait-listed. It may take an hour, so go wander WL, maybe hunt for hidden Mickeys, grab a drink at Territory Lounge, or people watch in the lobby.

An alternate plan would be to head over to Fort Wilderness. Trails End ahs pretty much the same food, just without the antics.

If you are really into antics, make an ADR for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review. ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT RIBS and FRIED CHICKEN!! ENDLESS BEER!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got some options here, so don't panic.

Good Luck!

I unpacked my flame-retardent suit for that?

I think all you'll get for your trouble is the same level of fun and a more expensive menu.

1) WCC closes between lunch and dinner.
2) So, you will not be able to get dinner at 3:00pm.
3) In fact, most of the servers are on lunch break by then.
4) Those that are not are clearing tables. *

* You should see the mad rush for servers to get their guests to finish lunch and give them the check. If you are one of those servers with people still eating, you have to stay and clear other servers' tables. If you can get your guests done, you just leave the tables dirty for someone else to clear, and get to lunch before you get tagged to clear up tables.

Trails End and HDDR have similar food, but WCC is different. HDDR and T.E. have BBQ ribs and fried chicken, but no pulled pork or brisket as regular buffet items. I actually prefer T.E. to WCC but that may not be what the OP is looking for. OP should go to allearnet.com to look at the menus http://allears.net/menu/menus.htm

i would call everyday ( including the day of the reservation ) and see if a time after 5 opens up. if nothing opens for you then i would show up at your 2:30 time and ask to be seated as close to dinner time as possible. explaine why to them and they will prob try to help you out

You might want to call Disney and ask them when the dinner hours are for the time you'll be there. I called on Friday and asked about the 29th of September and dinner starts at 4 pm (I got an ADR for around 4:30 pm). The gal on the phone said that right now dinner doesn't start to 5 pm, but that the hours were different in September.

We did lunch at WCC and were disappointed in both the lack of antics and the food.

Another suggestion would be to try for two smaller reservations at the same time. We did that one year at the suggestion of the disboards and each time we were seated together--I didn't even have to ask. Of course, you must be willing to sit seperately if it doesn't work out.

How dare you complain about all the pool hopping, Resort mug re-using, Brazilian teenage Little League football players who also double as cheerleaders! Shame on you!......errrr I think I'm on the wrong board....next time I should actually read the posts! sorry!
