MVMCP on Incoming Travel Day?

We are visiting the week after Thanksgiving 2018 for only 3 or 4 nights and staying on site.

The dates of MVMCP are pretty much every night we are there with the exception of Wednesday night. I have read that the Tuesday night party will probably be less crowded. But that is our incoming travel day and our flight arrival time is 10:30 am.

Will we (2 adults and 13 yr old son), be too tired to attend the party that night? I was thinking of checking in to the hotel, lunch and resting for an hour or so and then heading to MK. Should we schedule it for Thursday night instead? And if so, will it really be any more crowded than Tuesday night?

I am afraid to jam too much into one day... but on the other hand, I think if we do the party on Tuesday, then it's done and we can focus our attention on the other parks.

Thanks

Where are you coming from? How early a morning to get to the airport? What time zone changes? These are questions that will help determine if you can enjoy the party without being totally wiped out and messed up for the next day. I'm not sure that there will much difference between Tuesday and Thursday. Also, if you have party tickets you can enter the MK at 4:00 pm without having to use a park ticket admission. That can save a park admission for another day. The party lasts late into the night and can be pretty exhausting. If you can get into your resort room when you arrive (your room might not be ready that early) then you could
get some rest and make the party at 4:00. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! Cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did virtually the EXACT same thing you’re considering last year. Week after November, short 4-day trip, flight took off at 6:30am and landed at 9:00am, went to MVMCP that night.

For us, it was a bust! We woke up at 4:00 am that day and by 10:00pm we began to feel like zombies. Would never do that again!

Only you would know if you will be too tired. But as long as you think you can endure the long day and your flight is not delayed you should be fine.

We are coming from the Midwest and waking up at 3 am.

No way would I do it! We would be absolutely exhausted. We once took an 8:00 am flight instead of our usual 10:30 am one and we couldn't even get through the afternoon that day. We had to go back to the resort, nap and then re-group. I wouldn't invest that much money for something you may be too tired to enjoy. I really don't think you will notice that much of a crowd difference. We went to MVMCP last year on Dec. 18, most likely one of the most crowded dates and it was perfectly manageable. I would just plan on going on the Thursday of your trip.

I wouldn't. It's possible you won't be able to check into your resort until 3:00 (or later) which doesn't leave you much time (or any time) to rest before you can head to the park for the party. I would be worried that even if we were able to check in earlier that everyone might be so excited that they aren't able to get enough rest and end up exhausted not long after getting to MVMCP. That would be a lot of money to spend just to have everyone ready for bed an hour after arriving.

We also sometimes take a super early flight but when we do we make sure not to schedule anything that requires an ADR or reservation, additional ticket etc. We do always head to a park but always agree that when one of us starts to get tired we will head back to the resort. We always end up in bed early on those days but it allows us to be up bright and early for next day for rope drop.

That week, I would wait to make this decision. You may well be able to get same-day party tickets. See how you feel. Maybe you can get into your room early and nap?

We are running to this exact same situation for mnsshp. We are from the Midwest, flight goes from 5:30-9 am with the time change. Our plan as of right now is to still attend the Halloween party that night. I’m sure we will be exhausted but we don’t have kids and by doing the party that night we essentially gain another day during our trip. I haven’t bought tickets yet because I’m hoping we can possibly buy them that day without them selling out.

I would choose Thursday for party. I believe last year the week after TG Sunday, Tuesday and Friday night parties were sold out.

Between being exhausted after an early wake-up and traveling, combined with the risk of flight delays that could make one late for or even miss the party, we never schedule the party (or ADRs) for arrival day.

We did this for the MNSSHP a couple of years ago. I would must certainly plan on getting a later start the next day.

Where are you staying??? If you are on the monorail it will be a little easier for you. We stayed at GF that trip and it saved us that long wait for a bus when we left the party. The party's are so much fun. Have a great time!

It might be best to put it another night, but if not able i think you should be ok. Myself, DH and at the time 9yo twin boys tackled NYE on our arrival day. We had a very early flight, having to get up at 4am and arrived at MCO by 9am. With this we relaxed at the resort, thankfully our room was ready, we had lunch and then headed over to epcot by 4pm. we lasted until almost midnight. i'll admit I was exhausted -- once i stop moving i am done, but if i keep going i'm ok. We could have stayed a little longer, but with our long travel day we wanted to avoid the masses leaving the park after the new year rang in. It is doable, but if you are someone that needs sleep then you might want to plan a later start the next day.

I am planning on doing this. It makes most sense in our planning to not have to use a park ticket that day. Just hoping flights aren't delayed!

I say go for it.

We have a 6 am flight next trip and land at 8:30 am. We are going to do the dessert party that night. I know on our first day of vacation we run on pure adrenaline so I'm sure we will be fine. My DD12 is a pure night owl. She can wake up at 6 am and go to bed at 3 am the next day with no issues and then get up and do it all over again. I will be requesting first available room at POFQ. My plan is to head to MK once we land, do our FP+ and come back for a nap. With me requesting first available room I'm hoping we will have a room for this nap time. DD said she won't need one and plans to go the entire day through closing at MK. I believe her but Mom might need a break!! If not I think I'll be fine going all night. I'm not "that" old. I can still hang.

I am really shocked by most of the responses here. We have done this almost every year for the past 20 years. We get in around the same time as you will be, head to the resort and get an early check-in. Get some lunch, unpack and then relax until it is time to go to the party. Is it a long day, yes. Are we worn out by the end of the Party-not really.

I am 59 and my wife is 54, as you can see by our photo, I am not a fitness fanatic and have not had ant problems doing the Party on arrival day.

We went to the mnsshp the day of our arrival last September. We arrived around 9:30 at AKL,had breakfast, and were able to get into our rooms and change to swim( timing was perfect with our room being ready early and luggage arrive on time) then we got to MK around 3:15 to be let in at 4:00. My girls were 6 and 4 and they did take a in the stroller around 9:30 for about a half hour or so and they were good till the park closed. They fell asleep on bus ride back to AKL. We then dumped them in bed. We also did a four day trip

You just made me feel so much better about us doing this in October. I was really worried but it sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem. Dh and I are used to staying up late because we play in a band until 1 am and often don’t get home until 2 or 3.

You'll be fine then!!

We still go out with friends often. There are plenty of Friday's I get up at 5-6 am for work, work all day, get home, rest for a few hours (no nap), get dressed, hit the town with our friends and not get home until 3-4 am. So I'm thinking us staying up late on arrival day will be fine.
