Currently at AKL, and my niece received several bites en route to Mara this morning for breakfast. As we just came from a cruise that included a stop in Honduras, we came prepared with several products. She had been sprayed with repellent and had a bug bracelet on as well. Her arms healed with the creams applied, but her eye began to swell shut. (For those needing medical care the two options suggested by guest services include overpriced third party vendors or call 911). To add insult to injury, I was told by the front desk what did I expect to happen in Florida. They were informed that we have taken precautions, but that it appears their mosquito protection program appears lax since Zika is no longer on the news as evidenced by the removal of bug spray from the rooms. I sincerely hope that those with more serious injuries receive a more humane response. For those coming during hurricane season, be prepared to encounter mutant musquitos immune to typical products.

Strange. We have had minor medical situations requiring an urgent care type of visit and have always received CM suggestions of nearby Urgent Care centers and offers to call a cab for us if we needed transportation.

I haven't experienced a bug bite at WDW in years but whenever I am bitten I always have a horrible reaction to bug bites and get a ridiculous amount of swelling. Popping a Benadryl always does the trick and I am much more comfortable. Can you check the gift shop for Benadryl?

Could be from all the rain recently. My experience has been never had a bug bite at WDW in all our 30+ trips.

Glad your DD is on the mend.

Although I don't believe you should have received that sort of response from a CM, it's pretty much on-point cuz, Florida.

Really a testament to how good of a job they do with controlling it. We get weekly sprays from the county and despite that, the mosquitoes here (Florida) are often unbearable. Wait until you come across the giant variety, for real. :thumbsup2

In all of our annual trips to Disney, I have not had one bug bite and mosquitos LOVE me! I am always amazed at the lack of bugs. Sorry you experienced differently.

I am always the outlier, I swear every time I am near Pecos Bills I am viciously attacked by mosquitoes, but only there!!! I am sorry you had a bad experience, my husband broke his foot while we were staying at AKL in 2016 (not broken at the resort but during a run) and the CMs were fantastic with giving us various options including a local urgent care that picked him up at the resort and coordinated with a specialist for the next day since he broke it on a Sunday.

That is strange. I am an absolute magnet for mosquitoes and have never had a single bite in Orlando, even when staying off site. I also never use bug spray (though I probably should). Hope that doesn't change going forward.

Well, they will all be third parties since Disney does not offer medical care beyond minor scrapes and cuts, pain medicine, or treating people for heat stroke. If you need medical care contact your insurance company for the location of the nearest medical center that accepts your insurance. I am very surprised that I have never been bitten by anything while at Disney, I'm a bug magnet and get them just by taking out the trash here at home, probably outside a whole of 1 minute and I come in with 3 bites. There is only so much they can do with the amount of rain they've had recently.

We have been to a lot of the urgent cares in Orlando LOL They all take insurance and i haven't had one that i deem as overpriced. The one right outside the gates on 535 is top notch. We have had ear infections, strep throat, more ear infections all taken care of there. They truly would have taken very good care of your niece.

When I had a minor injury the front desk called Reedy Creek EMTs. No charge and they were very professional.

We have had a lot of rain recently and the mosquito problem will get worse. Hard to spray for them due to the heavy rains almost every day. Have also seen love bugs here on the Space Coast.

We’ve been coming to Disney for over 30 years, and have never had a previous medical situation. Whenever there were minor concerns, staff have always been accommodating and friendly. Yesterday was the polar opposite. I currently live in Georgia and am no stranger to bugs, however, typical products are generally effective. We actually saw the EMTs, attempted the oncall doctor service, visited urgent care, and were referred to the ER. She’s still a Cyclopes, but in good spirits. It’s a freak incident, but I mistakenly assumed the response from staff would be a little more empathetic.
