I figured that the most important thing for me to have is access to water. Being dehydrated can ruin a day. So I started there, and bought a CamelBack-type backpack with water bladder and a small storage area for other things. I looked a long time to find one that was pretty small and fit me perfectly, so that I'd be comfortable carrying all that water around all day.

The storage compartment is a perfect size -- it fits a small wallet, a home-made travel guide (info about restaurants we're interested in and reservation numbers), a poncho, and our camera. That's really all I plan to take, but we don't have any kids to worry about.

Good luck!

we also include a small first aid kit with bandaids and mole skin. trial size tylenol and sunscreen. Ponchos for rainy season. Wet wipes and tissues. gum or mints, sunglass case or cord to hang from your neck. hats for the sun that we usually put on a D ring and carry on the outside of the fanny pack. Cords to carry bottles of water bought at the park. and camera! Yes, I do manage to fit all of this in a fanny pack...and it's not huge either!

Here is a link to Deb's site that lists what to tote to the parks. I, personally, use a backpack, since I take my camcorder, digital camera, Advil & a book with me. Also, this comes in handy if I am wearing a sweatshirt in the morning, then when it gets warm, I can throw it in the bag.

I've always used a backpack - found one that isn't too big and take the basics: sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, 1st aid kit, planning notes, and rain ponchos.

In my fanny pack, I keep my wallet (pared down to the bare minimum) my park pass, gum & camera. There is room for sunglasses when not in use.I use a small fannypack for that.

I carry a small backpack that has a "Park Pack" (small bottle with tylenol,tums,benedryl,gas-ex) purell, shout wipes, bandaids, alcohol swab, sanitary supplies, nail file & clipper, hair bands moisturizer, lip balm & perfume) The park pack is about 4"x6"x2" & weigh's maybe a pound.
Also in the backpack are ponchos, water bottle & sweatshirt or pareo if the weather is iffy or if we are planning alot of indoor, massive air-conditioning events.

My son is almost 16, so I don't have to carry anything for him except for first aid supplies for all of us. Everyone carries their own drink. I will take sweatshirts & ponchos. He often carries a camcorder in bag with pins, gum & camera or his pin bag if we are going to trade....

When DH comes, he carries his own drink & ciggs.

if you have a 3 and a 6 year old you will need a stroller, so you can get away with keeping a lot of stuff (ponchos, meds, snacks, hats, sweatshirts, sunglasses, etc) in the stroller pouch. Make sure you take valuables (camera, passes, pal mickey, etc) with you on rides.

With children your age you will probably have a stroller, pack a backpack with things you think you will need but don't need to get to to often........sunscreen, first aid supplies, wipes, some juice packs for the kids and perhaps some water for the adults or kids too. You can leave the backpack in the stroller when you are not using it.Then I would find a small fanny pack for yourself and maybe your DH. I have one that has several compartments but is able to hold my digital camera, sunglasses, keys and some other smaller personal items like a comb. Mine also has a compartment in the front that has a zipper inside of it for cash and several slits for credit cards, room keys etc. I bought it at Disney and love it. And of course you need to get a Mickey paint chip from Home Depot so we will all recognize you! you can tie this on your fanny pack with some lime green ribbon! Looks like you will be visiting in late Oct. that is a beautiful time of the year weather wise, but it may also be wise to pack a sweatshirt for the evening in your backpack.

It really depends on which park and how long you plan to stay at the park before heading back to the hotel. DH & I started out with small backpacks each but by mid-trip, we carried only the items that we could fit in our pockets (cargo shorts).

.....and mole skin.

Just don't forget to pre-cut pieces of moleskin before you leave home. I cut mine into several sizes and just carry a piece or two in my pocket each time I go out. Doesn't take up any room that way.
