Must pay up front for DDP / packages with AAA

Hi everyone,

I have a AAA room-only discount for my upcoming trip, but am considering adding the DDP and park hopper tickets. Because I am only a few weeks away from my trip, I would have to pay in full for my package. Is this pretty standard - and for those doing this (or similar) do you purchase trip insurance too? It just wigs me out a little to for everything up front - in case something happens, someone gets sick, etc. etc. Also, with AAA - can I put off reserving / purchasing the complete package until the week of travel - just to be sure that we will be going? We did already pay for our airline tix (without insurance - did not even occur to me to get that!)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Also - I was not really sure if this was the correct board to post to, but the question did not seem to fit anywhere else.

Yep, that's how it works. Not just with AAA but no matter how you book your Disney package - Disney's policy is that they be paid in full 45 days in advance. We don't usually bother with insurance, because Disney's cancellation policies aren't terribly harsh ($100 penalty within 45 days, $200 within 5 days of travel). This trip, we did opt for the trip insurance, not so much out of fear of having to cancel but more as a hedge against the possibilty of weather issues with our flights, since we're coming from Detroit in January.

You can put off booking if you're reasonably sure that there won't be availability issues, but with all the dates that are showing as fully booked for no apparent reason, I personally wouldn't want to wait too long.

I would call some of the rest's you want to eat at and see if they still have availability. We have two kids and try to eat around the same time every day and not past 6:30 so we could never wait this long and still pick our rest's and times. If they are avaiable, book them and the plan ASAP.. just don't want you to get the plan and then be disappointed if you don't get your pick of resturants...

You can book your ADRs without knowing if you are on the DDP or not.
Since you are going from a Room Only to a package, the payment is different. You were told correct you will need to pay for everything since you are under 45 days from the trip.
Trip insurance is just that -- insurance. It does cover a lot. But read the details to see if it would benefit you or not. We have had it a few times, but never had to file against it.
I agree I would not wait up until the last minute to add anything. I do not know what AAA policy is. Disney is 3 days. AAA maybe be longer. :confused3
