DS has been asking for the Kidz Bop CD. He has seen the commercial for it, and some of his friends have it. I checked it out on amazon, and found the reviews to be disappointing. Apparently, the lyrics are pretty "grown-up". Not wanting to expose DS (and his younger brother) to too much too soon, can anyone recommend some CDs with "cool" music for an 8yo?

DS seems to be outgrowing the Disney songs CD (even though his mom still loves them :o ), and I gave away the old Raffi CDs quite a while ago.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

we get the kids pop cds at kmart
my 8 yr old loves them
she also has Hillary Duff cd from her movie
many of those disney cds from the disney store not the songs from the movies the other ones
lilo and stitch sound track
she also has diana ross and the supremes greatest hits

I had gotten my ten year old step-son the Kids Bop Cd-not sure which version it was, but he really liked it.
I also agree with the Hillary Duff cd.

My 7 year old niece listens to Jump 5 and Stacie Orrico - I like both of these artists, too. I'm not sure how they will rate on the 8 year old boy coolness scale though.

Does he like Pokemon? My DS9 is BIG into Pokemon and he listens to some of the cd's with Pokemon related songs. (The Christmas one was a big hit) Other than that he's not really into popular music...yet. He did love the soundtracks from Tarzan and Lilo & Stitch for a while. And the one from The Wild Thornberry's movie. Haven't seen him with the headphones on lately tho..

My almost 7 YO listens to a lot of what we listen to. Currently his favorites are:

Guster
Jimmy Buffet (family friendly lyrics only)
Jason Mraz
John Mayer
and lots of others

He also still really enjoys a lot of Disney soundtracks

Lion King
Lilo and Stitch
Toy Story

We also have some hysterically funny video of him, as a baby in his swing, fast asleep, with Ozzy Osbourne playing in the background.

My DS10 loves Jimmy Buffet, Bare Naked Ladies, Rush, and Peter Gabriel. He is starting to listen to the radio more and likes a lot of the new bands, including Dave Matthews and Nickelback.

A lot of They Might Be Giants is fun for kids (try the Flood album for songs like Particle Man, Birdhouse in Your Soul, Istanbul Not Constantinople). In fact, they recently put out a kids' album called No! that you might want to try. (When you put it in the computer there are all kinds of cool Flash animations to go with the songs.) Also, there are several good compilations of kids' music done by pop artists. Schoolhouse Rock ROCKS has Blind Melon, Better Than Ezra, Moby, Man or Astroman, etc. covering the schoolhouse rock songs. And For the Kids has artists such as Cake, Barenaked Ladies, Sarah Mclaughlin, and Sixpence None the Richer covering songs from the muppet show, free to be you and me, and other kids' stuff.

Ooops! Can't believe I forget this! Try some Tom Chapin cd's! (yes, he IS Harry's brother) He has some great kids music - he also puts on a great show if he's ever in your area - check out his web site!

petula-I love They Might Be Giants! Flood is my one of my alltime favorites. I'll have to check out No!

Is it true that CDs sold at are edited to take out the bad language? Someone told me this a couple of years ago & I've never been able to verify it.

My kids LOVED Tom Chapin. We saw him in concert when they were about 5 and 6. When they were younger, they also enjoyed soundtracks from Disney movies and even soem video game soundtracks (Sonic, etc)

Disneymania (current artists singing Disney movie tunes)
Hillary Duff
Jump 5
Jesse Mcartney (even *I* like his song Beautiful Soul)

Check out www.radiodisney.com for some songs and artists (you can hear music clips too). We love radio disney and choose alot of our music from listening.

the eight year old i used to baby-sit had a couple of different ones. he had play, jump 5, a christian c.d (not sure which one), elvis, i gave him huey lewis and the news time flies, and he had another one not sure what it was though. he seemed to like all of them and even a couple of the songs that had suggested lyrics he didnt understand anyways. he wanted the kids bob c.d but im not sure if he got it yet i dont babysit there anymore so i have no clue.
