OK, first time poster, and this is a bit of a silly one....humor me!
First off I'm a Hawaiian steel guitar player...to be clear, not Hawaiian as such (at least not yet...would love to be a kama'aina someday), but a musician who plays Hawaiian steel guitar. I have a little combo that does old time Hawaiian, hapa haole, jazz standards and such here in Kansas City.
We're planning another trip to WDW...went for the first time last year (DL was our typical destination due to California connections). My wife is actually the "Disney parks nut", but I'm happily along for the ride. We're going to be staying at Port Orleans Riverside and the Polynesian (last time we just sort of...snuck into the Polynesian, which was lovely and right up my alley).
Now, I know they have various musicians (and a full fledged luau that we won't be attending) sometimes out on the terrace. It may not work out but if they've got folks playing Hawaiian music it might be fun (if not a violation of corporate or union rules or who knows what!) to sit in with them with the steel guitar. It's not likely to work out but anyone got any advice? I'm not looking for a real "gig" or audition with the Disney org, I like my day gig just fine...was just thinking it'd be fun to sit in with other musicians and do a "kanakapila" type jam on classic Hawaiian tunes in a place like that.
(The piped in music at the Polynesian is right up my alley...last year when walking up from the boat dock I overheard the unmistakeable sound of Billy Hew Len and Barney Isaacs playing "Blue Hawaii" from their Steel Guitar Magic album and I was instantly sold on the place!)
