Monday, June 13th - We decided today was the day to explore Downtown Disney. Since our bodies were still running on East Coast time, this meant we were walking around at 8 am
long before anything interesting was open. MY KIND OF SHOPPING! Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and the stores opened for Tammy and daughter Tierney.
I should be nicer since Tammy used this opportunity to pick us all up some nice souvenirs a golden-eared antenna ball which fit nicely on the direction control rod on my scooter and the latest Disneyland history book THEN, NOW AND FOREVER,
Not to mention other souvenirs for herself and Tierney. But among those items was Tierney's first pins and lanyard hopelessly spreading Tammy's obsession for pin trading to Tierney.
After a coffee break at the Disneyland Hotel (Wow, that stuff was high-octane!) we made our way back though Downtown Disney. I may have found a new hobby (sound effect of my wife screaming) at the Dept. 56 shop as I became fascinated with the Christmas and Halloween displays. I model trains but half the fun is building the towns on my layout.
Tierney eventually nagged me into getting one of her birthday presents early - a set of gold mouse ears. Unfortunatly, she would have to wait to get a bow and her name on it.
Tammy and I took a break on a bench while Tierney was tossing coins in a fountain and got the stuffing surprised out of her when the fountain suddenly erupted! Tierney then had a blast playing in the water as the fountain continued to erupt for several minutes.
Lunch was at the ESPN Zone where we split a huge 'Tailgate' platter of various appetizers. ($32 plus drinks and tip. Service was very slow for drink refills.) Afterwards, we played a few games with the $10 game cards that were part of our tickets to Disneyland. $10 doesn't buy many games anymore and we were 'broke' within 45 minutes.
Going back though Downtown Disney again we stopped and filled out credit card applications for the heck of it. I was offered a beach bag in my choice of blue or black. Tammy lucked out and was offered $10 Disney dollars.
By mid-afternoon, we were getting pretty tired except for Tierney who couldn't wait to get back to jump in the pool. While Tammy was resting and Tierney was swimming. I went back over to Disney to mail some postcards. I asked a security officer first who recommended trying the Opera House first on Disneyland's Main Street, picking up a shopping pass at guest services. However, after waiting to be served at the guest services window, I was told they didn't issue passes after 4pm and they suggested going down to the Disneyland Hotel. (A royal pain I would think for those trying to pick up something right after work for the day.)
Guest Services in the Disneyland hotel did have stamps and were able to mail my cards.
Time to get some rest for our first real Disneyland day.
