Travel Days January 19, 20, 21

We had packed up the camper on Saturday afternoon in dreary Northeast PA and got it hooked up and ready to go. We headed home (we keep our camper parked at a lot close to our seasonal summer spot) to relax a bit and ordered some Domino’s Pizza for supper. We hit the hay by 10:00.

We were up and out of the house by 6:30 Sunday morning. We had a few things to throw in the truck and were off by 7:10.

We live in northeast PA, and the weather man was calling for a storm this afternoon. Shortly after we got on the road, it started flurrying, but luckily nothing too heavy or laying on the road. The further south we went, the snow got a bit harder, but the roads were still just wet. Even with the less than stellar weather, we made good time. We hit MD at 10:15, WV at 10:26 and VA at 10:51.

We were in NC at 4:20 and SC at 6:20. Our goal for the night was a Cracker Barrel in Orangeburg, SC. We arrived around 8:30, ate some leftover pizza, turned the furnace on, watched some tv and headed to bed.

After a good night’s sleep we headed into Cracker Barrel for breakfast. We fueled up the truck across the road and left around 8:30. We entered Georgia at 10:15 and Florida at 12:13!

We had reservations at Orlando/Kissimmee KOA for the night. We arrived there at 4:20 and were escorted to our spot for the night. This was a great place that we would definitely consider staying at again. The pull-thru site we reserved was more than long enough for us to be able to keep the camper hooked up to the truck for the night.

After we got things set up for the night, we took a walk. It was really needed after all those hours of riding! We did have to bundle up though, it was quite chilly! And would stay that way for a few days.

January 21 Finally!!

While check-in for the campsites at Fort Wilderness is 3:00, we like to get there earlier. You can check in anytime, if your site is ready, you can go to it and set up. If it isn’t ready you have the option of parking in the overflow parking lot and waiting, or you can head to a park, Disney Springs, or use that free water park ticket. Another option is to ask for a different spot than the one assigned to you. That is what we did.

We were going under the sign around 10:30…
IMG_1501.jpeg

And had everything all set up around 1:00!
IMG_1502.jpeg

As soon as we got all set up, it started to rain. It was still on the chilly side too, so we spent most of the rest of the day inside.

I am lovin the start of your trip report! Brings up all of the "waiting to get there" excitement cause we drive too. Thanks for taking the time to share. Looking forward to more :-)

Looking forward to reading all about your trip. It’s nice to see another driver from the Northeast make the road trip to Florida. I do the same thing, take pictures when we enter the different states so I’ll know what time we got there.

Joining in! It's funny, every time I see someone driving through VA I want to say to stop over in Alexandria and say hi! We're just off the beltway!

Change this to PA…
I too, find the drive down fun 😉

I'm hare for the adventure.

We missed you by a few days. We left on January 18th and had snow in South Louisiana on January 21st. Looks like the cold made it to Florida just for you.

Thursday January 23 Disney Springs

We left the camper around 10:00 and took the golf cart to the Outpost Depot to get the bus to Disney Springs.
IMG_1508.jpeg

Yes, we had our winter coats on! It was also raining off and on, but we got lucky and it was just sprinkling for most of the day. We had an ADR for Homecomin’ at 11:30. I had the Cuban sandwich and Gary had the Chicken and donuts. They were both really good and we also enjoyed the moonshine drinks that we had. I even remembered to bring our refill cups from last trip. 😉

After that, we did some shopping. We looked around the M&M’s store and Columbia. Then we decided to head to City Works for a few drinks. Sometime later we headed out. It was raining a bit harder then, so we decided to make our way to Everglazed and Gideon’s and head back to the Fort. We were back on the bus around 4:30 and just hung out in the camper the rest of the evening. It was chilly and rainy and we wanted to get ready for our first day in the parks tomorrow!

Friday, January 24 Hollywood Studios

Let me preface this entry with a bit of explanation…Gary isn’t the Disney (World) lover that I am. He really enjoys himself when he is here. He has favorite rides, favorite restaurants, etc., but I’m never going to get him to make yearly trips, or every other year. 😀 It seems that we will do this trip probably every 2-3 years. We last visited 3 years ago during the same time period. Then we spent 2 weeks at Fort Wilderness and 10 days in the parks. We both felt we didn’t have enough time to spend enjoying the Fort, so we said that the next time, we would do 3 weeks and still just do 10 days in the parks. After visiting WDW, we head over to Daytona Beach for 10 days to attend the Daytona 500. That’s more his jam! Sooooo, that’s my really long way of saying we also tend not to rope drop or spend open to close in the parks. Luckily, we get to spend 10 days, so rope drop and really long days don’t always seem necessary during the time frame in which we visit! Our schedule for this trip worked out really well, we would spend 2 days in the parks and then have a rest day. It was great. We didn’t get tired feet, blisters, and we never got that special kind of “Disney tired”!

Another note I’ll make here while I am thinking about it. We did receive the free water park ticket for our check in day. Unfortunately, the water park was closed that day due to the cold temperatures. I intended to ask at the desk about the possibility of using it another day, not expecting to be able to, but would have been appreciative if we could. Of course, I never got around to doing it. After returning home, I read somewhere that because they were closed, the ticket was good for any day of our trip and it was available for us to use a different day. Lesson learned!

So let’s get to our day! We did have LLMP for today and a LLSP for ROR.

We arrived at HS 10:30ish, again donning our winter coats. At least there was no rain today. It was nice and sunny, but chilly. Our first LL was for A.S.Saucers. Just a little “burner” ride that we do enjoy enough with a short line.

**I didn’t take many pictures this trip. I also lost most of my notes. I did a pretty good job of keeping good notes so I could do this report justice, but I lost the file. I am working from memory, receipts, and photos (the ones I did take and ones we got from rides) It is what it is, folks!**

After visiting with the Aliens we headed over for one last visit with the Muppets. Corny, yeah. But we enjoy it. Then it was time for Rise of the Resistance. This was our first time riding this attraction. I am claustrophobic. Last trip, I didn’t know enough about this attraction to feel confident that I wouldn’t end up waiting in some small area packed with people, so we didn’t ride. This time I had done enough “research” and thought I would be okay. So we paid to ride and LOVED it!! We did up only riding this time as we never wanted to wait in a long line or pay more cash to ride.

After that we headed to ABC Commissary for lunch. I mobile ordered on our way over and our food was ready shortly. We got a table outside in the sunshine.
We both had the Mediterranean Salad and really enjoyed it.
Our next LL was for TSM so we made our way over.
IMG_1523.jpeg
Gary beat me.😥

The next picture I have is from the Indiana Jones show at 4:30. That leaves about 3 hours unaccounted for. I’m (almost) certain we did the Frozen Ever After show today.

I know we left the park after Indy and took the Skyliner to Epcot…and I don’t know what we did there. I’m pretty confident that we shared an order of Fish and chips at Yorkshire County Fish Shop and we left the park around 7:30.

As I’m typing this, I am so irritated that I lost the notes, didn’t take better notes/photos. Next time! 🙄

Glad to have you all here!

DH would like to do Disney like you do, with 2 days of parks and a rest. I'm the go all day everyday person.

I did not know you could use the Water park day another day if the park was closed. It was closed on our arrival day too.

Looking forward to more.

I cannot confirm that, but others have posted that it worked for them.

Day 2/Saturday January 25, 2025
EPCOT and Magic Kingdom

We began the day at EPCOT. We left the camper around 9 and were in the park by 9:45.

We had LLMP for today and headed to MS:Green first.
IMG_1527.jpeg

I don’t ride this, so I asked the cast member if I could just tap in and head back out while Gary went in to ride. We both tapped in and then Gary disappeared behind me…into the Orange line. I called his name a few times and then the cast members joined me. Luckily he heard us and turned around wondering what was going on! I quickly explained that he was headed into the Orange side of the ride, not the tame side as he had planned on. We all had a good laugh imagining how surprised he would have been! He has ridden the Orange side before and liked it, but thought since we would be riding GOTG for the first time right after this, Green was the way to go!
I wondered around the area a bit and people watched while I waited for him. He enjoyed his trip!

Now it was time for our GOTG LLSP. This was our first time and I was a bit nervous but we both really enjoyed it. We both agreed that we couldn’t ride again right away, but we liked it. Our song was Conga. Although I have no idea where this picture was taken, I’m pretty sure I was screaming the entire ride!
IMG_1951.jpeg

After this, we took a bathroom break and strolled through Creations. We didn’t find anything that we couldn’t live without so we decided to take a stroll over by The Land before heading to World Showcase. We stopped at a cart for a pretzel and water to share and enjoyed the sunshine for a few minutes. It was about 11:30 at this point and we had a LL for Remy for noon so we headed that way. As we crossed over the bridge into France, I got the notification that our LL had to converted to an anytime LL as Remy was down. We headed back there anyway in hopes that it might be back up soon. We decided that we would hang around there until around 12:45 or so and then head out, as we had an ADR for Biergarten at 2:00.
IMG_1529.jpeg

Unfortunately the ride did not come back online in that time frame, so we headed towards Germany. We checked in on the app as soon as allowed and were seated about 15 minutes early. We both enjoyed way more food than we are used to eating! Everything was very tasty and our server, Anna was great!
IMG_1530.jpeg

We were able to enjoy the entertainment before we rolled out of there right around 3:00. A quick check on the app showed that Remy was back up, so we headed back to France. We enjoyed our ride and decided to head back to the camper for a break before heading to MK for the evening.

After a short break, we took the boat from FW over to MK. We arrived around 5:00 with 2 LL’s made. (Why only 2, I have no idea! Tomorrow was a rest day, why didn’t we do much today? I know we have lots of time left, but as I look back, I’m surprised how laid back we were 😀)
IMG_1532.jpeg

After walking right down the middle of Main Street, USA we headed to Philharmagic. Then our only other LL for the evening was POTC.
IMG_1950.jpeg

After that, we headed back to Fort Wilderness via the boat.

Day 3/Monday, January 27, 2025

We enjoyed a relaxing day at the Fort on Sunday and were ready to spend a ‘relaxing’ day at EPCOT today! We left the camper around 9:30 and headed on the golf cart to the bus depot. We arrived at the park 10:15ish and decided to check out Journey of Water. We didn’t engage in any of the activities, but we both thought it was well done.
IMG_1546.jpeg
Our main goal today was to roam around World Showcase, check out some of the offerings at the booths at the Festival of the Arts, both artistic and food offerings. We first checked out Canada and went inside to watch Canada Far and Wide.
IMG_1547.jpeg

We walked on and made our first stop at Vibrante & Vívido for the Chorizo and Potato Empanada and Collective Arts Guava Dream Blonde Ale. YUM!! There are only a few tables in that area and while looking for a place to eat/drink, a woman noticed us and offered to share her table with us. While we ate, drank, and talked, we came to realize we were both from PA. She now lives nearby the parks and came over for a few hours for lunch! After a nice visit, we left and headed to Artist’s Table in The American Adventure. Here we enjoyed the Deviled Egg Trio: Pimento Cheese, Green Goddess, and BLT and got the beer flight. This included Wicked Weed Brewing Pineapple Daydream IPA, Swamp Head Brewery Neon Palette Lager and Lost Cost Brewery Peanut Butter Chocolate Milk Stout. I love these flights as they are a great way to try beers that I might not try otherwise! (Looking at you Peanut butter chocolate stout!)
IMG_1548.jpeg

A note about the deviled eggs…
I am so glad that I had heard/read about the way these eggs are prepared. It’s a hard boiled egg with some filling on top. They do not remove the egg yolk, use it for the filling and replace it. The solid egg yolk is there. Not a fan, but the eggs were ok.

We also took some time looking at some of the art here. We finished up just in time to go inside and listen to the Voices of Liberty. They are amazing and we love to hear them whenever we can.

L’Arte di Mangiare in Italy was our next stop! Here we had Tricolore: Cheese-filled ravioloni, pomodoro, cream, and pesto sauces and Mozzarella Fritta, which was served on an artist palette with sauces. We had a Peroni to drink. This was all good, but not much different than you can get at any restaurant.
IMG_1553.jpeg

By this time it was actually getting pretty warm. This was the first warm day we had since we got to Florida! We decided to head out of the park and check out the swimming pool. As we passed by the Odyssey, we decided to check out Figment’s Inspiration Station. There we had Raspberry Pastry Tart: Sugar cookie with raspberry and lemon cream cheese filling and a hard cider flight to wash it down. I didn’t expect much from this, but it was SO good. So were the ciders. We actually found them and bought a 12 pack when we got to Daytona.
IMG_1554.jpeg

Now we were ready to head out…but wait, we’re going right by The Deconstructed Dish. Why not stop here and knock one more thing off the list? We got the Deconstructed Key Lime Pie. It was fine.
IMG_1555.jpeg
And with that we headed out to the buses and back to the Fort. We spent the rest of the afternoon/early evening at the pool and had a great time.

That evening we took a ride down to the marina and watched HEA from the beach. Of course you can’t see the projections or the lower fireworks, but you can see the big ones and it makes for a nice way to wind down the night!

Sounds like you caught a lucky break the weather wasn't too bad!
Our goal for the night was a Cracker Barrel
Do they let RVs stay in the lot overnight? I'm sure they get loads of business if so.
Florida at 12:13
Aaaaand you're there! Huzzah!
Nice set up! My 5th wheel is much older but in good shape.
it was quite chilly! And would stay that way for a few days.
I've been to FL in January and yes, it can get very cold! Not my favorite....
took the golf cart to the Outpost Depot
Did you rent one or do you travel with one?
I even remembered to bring our refill cups from last trip. 😉
Hey, look at you all organized! ;) I mean, you gotta have the important things.
It seems that we will do this trip probably every 2-3 years.
And that's okay! There is plenty more to life than Disney trips and Ummm, there's always willing DISFriends to go with.... ;)
After returning home, I read somewhere that because they were closed, the ticket was good for any day of our trip and it was available for us to use a different day. Lesson learned!
Oh, good to know!

D'oh! I hate that. Been there and done that before. Just ugh.
Hey, look at you! The BEAVERS FOREVER CLUB!
I quickly explained that he was headed into the Orange side of the ride, not the tame side as he had planned on. We all had a good laugh imagining how surprised he would have been!
Oh dear! That might have been bad. But yeah, sorry, kinda chuckling over here.
We both enjoyed way more food than we are used to eating! Everything was very tasty and our server, Anna was great!
I haven' t been in YEARS. Still good food? Fun place, especially with kids.
Ouch! Crowded!

At least you're not wearing yourself out too fast.

We first checked out Canada and went inside to watch Canada Far and Wide.

I haven't done this since they replaced the video, I'm overdue.

We finished up just in time to go inside and listen to the Voices of Liberty. They are amazing and we love to hear them whenever we can.

We love them too!

You really did get a lot of different little snacks and drinks.

That evening we took a ride down to the marina and watched HEA from the beach. Of course you can’t see the projections or the lower fireworks, but you can see the big ones and it makes for a nice way to wind down the night

Great way to end your day.
