Mummy Ride

How scary is this? How does the roller coaster part compare to thunder mountain? Are there huge drops? Does it go backwards and if so for how long?

How long would you say the roller coaster part is?

The coaster part is more like Space Mountain than BTMRR, IMO. I think it lasts about 30-45 seconds max. It does go backwards, but that part is very short and not down a big hill or anything and it is before the launch that starts the real coaster part. I am not a big coaster fan, but I enjoy this one. Only one of the drops makes my stomach jump.

I find Space Mountain extremely painful---to the point that I won't ride it anymore. I don't find Mummy painful at all. I don't think it is as intense as Space Mountain either, but it is more intense than BTMRR.

True, ROTM is definitely smoother. I think it's the height of the drops and the darkness that makes me compare it to SM. The launch is something different too. I can only ride Mummy twice in a row, because the launch makes me dizzy after that.

I think the coolest part of the ride is that you believe you are inside a pyramid excavation (at least I did), a lot like the first Mummy movie. The first part of the ride is the pyramid, the second part the coaster as you "flee" the mummy.

Walking through the queue is really neat - kinda creepy in places, especially if not crowded.

We had a nine year old in our party who was too scared to go on any coaster the first day of our trip. Wouldn't do Dragon Challenge. Wouldn't do Hulk. Wouldn't do Rip Ride Rockit. He did enjoy Jurassic Park and Dudley Do Right Falls though.

So we took him on the Mummy, didn't tell him what it was. He wasn't scared to get on because it's an indoor ride and he couldn't see a "scary" roller coaster.

He ended up loving the ride, and then immediately wanted to ride Dragon Challenge and the Hulk repeatedly (Rip Ride Rockit's line was too long, so he chose to do Mummy several more times as well). Today they went to Sea World and he loved Krakken and Manta. From being terrified of roller coasters, to being a roller coaster fan, all thanks to the Mummy.

I think it's one of the scariest rides out there. Not from any drops, but from darkness and creepy mummies. It's like a roller coaster through hell,...,I love it!!! Wouldn't put a little kid on it though, lol

I think it all depends on the kid our youngest was 6 last time we went and was just shy of 48" so couldn't ride even after walking through the cue. He was "devastated" so we promised to wait until he was tall enough to ride everything before we went back. The other 2 loved it. I think it's my favorite ride at Universal....did I mention they are all boys lol that could be a factor in loving the creepiness

I didn't think Space Mountain was intense at all. I actually thought it was very similar to BTMRR only that it was in the dark and felt faster. I didn't think it was too intense. Maybe it depends on the rider.

The first time we rode ROTM my DD was 6 and she was a little nervous with the theme of the ride but loved the ride itself! All I could hear when we got off was "Let's do it again Mommy!" It is one of my favourites especially the room of fire!

lol actually the chicken is me and not a kid lol.... I haven't been on space mountain in years but I was on thunder mountain this past June, so thats my frame of reference

If its too much faster than thunder mountain then its not for me as Thunder mountain is at the top of my chicken self tolerance level lol

Big Thunder Mountain reaches a max speed of 36 mph

Mummy reaches a max speed of 45 mph. However the coaster sections are short. You have a break between the two sections when you stop for a bit in a special room with special effects.
