Hi I wonder if any one can help me.

I have been raising money to send my 7 year old daughter Sophie who is confined to a wheelchair with a life limiting condition to Disney World as a one in a lifetime trip. We have a 2 week holiday booked for the 11th March 08 I was wondering if any one knows of any special treats or tips that would make the trip extra special for Sophie and to help us have so fab memorise of the fun times we had together when it is time for her to go back to the angels.

We wont are little girl to feel the princess she is.

Thank you for any help.

Sarah.

I would recommend a couple of character meals. There is a princess dinner in Norway in Epcot. Winnie the Pooh in Magic Kingdom. Lilo and Stitch at the Polynesian Resort.

If you give us some more info, such as her favorite characters and where you are staying, we could be more helpful.

I would recommend the BBB. I did see little girls in wheelchairs with their hair all done up so I'm sure they can accomodate you.

Even though you have your trip scheduled already, you might want to contact Make a Wish (www.wish.org/ ). Their whole reason for being is making wishes come true for children with life-threatening illnesses/conditions.

As the other posters mentioned, it would be helpful to know a little more about the little girl and what her favorite things are.
We have been to the Princess meal in Norway and thought it was very nice. There is a also a Winnie the Pooh character meal at the Crystal Palace in MK that is nice if she likes those characters.

Easter this year is March 23, so you will see some of the extra flowers and decorations that are up for Easter. They also have a special Easter parade.
We have not been to the Princess and Pirates Party, but I have heard it is good and there is one scheduled for March 11 and March 14. We went to the Halloween Party and it was really good, with extra character meet and greets and a special parade.

The first thing I would immediately suggest is checking in The Netherlands if there is an organization similar to the US's Make-A-Wish. This provides wishes and assistance to children with life-threatening or life-limiting conditions.

Many organizations worldwide have tie-ins with the Give Kids The World Village in the Disney World area. They provide various facilities and accomodations, at no charge, for these children and their families. If you contact them at dream@gktw.org they may be able to suggest an organization in your country. Their web site is www.gktw.org and there are several discussions about them on this forum.

Thank you everyone for your help. We are staying at the all stars music hotel. She loves all things Disney really. Her fav is Ariel. She loves all the characters especially the princesses.

As the others have mentioned, Bibbity Boppity Boutique gives girls the 'princess treatment', with a number of different packages available for doing hair, make up etc. If she is into princesses, the character meal in Norway, EPCOT, or Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle at Magic Kingdom, would probably be right up her street. There is also a regular character meet (line up for autograph, hug and photos) with Ariel in Fantasyland, Magic Kingdom.

I don't know how much you know about the practicalities of doing Disney with a wheelchair, but I just wanted to reassure you that it's the most accessible place I've ever been. You can find lots of information about boarding rides, buses and other Disney transport in the disABILITIES FAQ.

Can she transfer at all (with or without your help)? This will affect whether she can do some rides or not. A number of Disney rides, and all the shows, allow guests to remain in their wheelchairs throughout, but for some rides she would need to transfer. The difficulty of transfer differs between rides; some, such as Haunted Mansion, are comparatively easy, whereas Pirates of the Caribbean is a bit more of a challenge. The Mouse On Wheels, has detailed information on all the rides, and how easy their transfer is.

I hope this helps for starters, if you have any more questions, just give us a shout!

Have a truly magical trip!! :tinker:
