Multi-day pass on blackout days then upgrade to Annual?

We want to visit Disneyland on a Friday thru Monday next month and purchase Deluxe Annual passes at that time. Friday and Saturday are blackout dates. Can we purchase 3 day hoppers ($149 online same as gate price?), use those for Friday and Saturday and then on Sunday upgrade to a deluxe paying the difference of $120? That would allow us to visit over a blackout weekend without having to buy the premium $389 pass. Is this allowed?

Use your multi-day on the blockout days and upgrade before your pass expires.

Yep! Just head into the AP processing center when you're ready to upgrade (have to do it at Disneyland, b/c they have the cameras for your AP picture...DCA can do the upgrade but you have to go to DL for the picture anyway).

You could even do it on the Saturday instead of waiting until Sunday; as a courtesy when you upgrade on a blocked out day they let you have access to both parks...but people are often nervous to do that.

Oh you're good!! You know what you're doing. FYI, we did our upgrade on a Saturday when we had Deluxe APs and we had NO problems park hopping all day long.

can you clarify about needing to get APs in DL? We'll be turing in two AP coupons for APs, but since we are arriving in the afternoon, only planned on going to DCA on our first day. Do we have to get our APs in DL?

You have to get your pictures done in DL, there is not a photo processing center in DCA. When you trade your vouchers you will get paperwork, they tell you to go to the bank, at the bank they process your actual AP with your picture on it. You have to do this the first day of use of your AP.

Yep. You are going to *have to* go to DL that day, if only to get the pictures. DCA just doesn't have the camera.

Great! I wish there was a way to buy the Costco Deluxe AP with the $50 gift card and still be able to go over a blackout weekend rather than buy a 3 day hopper and then upgrade. I don't see a way to that!

If you have interest in Universal, SeaWorld, and the San Diego Zoo, you might consider the Southern California CityPass instead. It includes a 3-day pass to Disneyland, 1 day to Universal, 1 day to SeaWorld San Diego, and 1 day to the San Diego Zoo. It's $227 ($192 kids) at Costco and you get $179 ($149 kids) credit at Disneyland when you upgrade the 3-day pass, so the effective cost of the other three attractions is just $48 ($43 kids).
