stayed at The Contemporary last night for the first time. I checked in around noon to happily find my room was ready. I booked a garden wing room and was assigned a room in the north wing, second floor. After seeing pics of the decor in the rooms i really thought i wouldnt like it, But after seeing it in person i kind of like it. It wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. Although I do think the decor needs updating(which i know is now happening). The rooms are big and the bathrooms are nice sized, too. I had a king bed room. I liked the sliding glass door, wish the weather were cooler ..it was too hot to keep the door open.
I had dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse. It was ok. I like Outback better :) Had a quick lunch after I arrived yesterday at the Food and Fun center. That place definately needs a face lift. Also had breakfast there this morning. Now a little complaint I have about the patrons that were dining at the Concourse when I was.. Men and boys were wearing their caps while dining.. What happened to men and boys removing their caps while eating in a public restaurant?? I was astonished..Grown men and young men and children all kept their caps on.
I loved how close the Contemp is to the MK. I loved being able to walk over to the MK. I went to the MK in the early afetrnoon yesterday then came back before dinner, then went back over after dinner. Stuck around the MK for 'Wishes", which was great per usual then walked back to the the hotel.
Then this morning i walked over to the Mk one last time before leaving for home, and took the monorail back to the hotel.
All in all, I enjoyed the Contemporary, but it definately screams the 1970's.

Thanks for sharing!! How is the north wing side anyways? How far is it to main building? I am glad your enjoying your stay!

Was there any mention as to when the north wing will be redone? How close was the north wing to the MK and the pools? Also, how do the wings connect to the main building, by elevator or walkway and on which floor? Sorry for so many questions. Staying at CR next March with special needs brother. I'm not sure which wing to request. Thanks so much.

.

I know that when DH is at Disney and has been wearing a hat all day, he'll leave it on to avoid "hat head", which would be far more astonishing than his cap. :rotfl: When we go to one of the more upscale places or have had a chance to shower/change, he doesn't wear the cap.

Glad you enjoyed the Contemporary! :sunny:

::yes:: Yep! We don't want to show off our hat heads. Although Mom (our waitress) at Prime Time Cafe did threaten to put me in the corner if I didn't take it off. I worry more about the amount of skin that is shown in public nowadays than whether some guy is wearing his cap. Don't mean to sound rude, but does my wearing a cap really make your dining less enjoyable? I don't think so and if it does oh well.

Well, I was always taught that men were to remove their caps when dining .. and entering peoples homes, and when in church, etc that is was good manners. But maybe things have changed thru the years. I know alot of people dont practice proper etiquette these days.

No mention was made of when the North Wing would be undergoing rehab. The North building is closest to the walkway to the MK. Also, there is a side entance of the north wing that leads directly into the tower thru the Food and Fun Center in to the Tower. The pool is closer to the south wing.

I thought it was poor etiquette to point out others peoples manners?
Also the Concourse Steakhouse isn't Victoria and Alberts or the Cali Grill. In Disneyworld almost all restaurants are 'themepark attire'.

I'm not sure when the rehab is scheduled but I do have other answers. The walk to the MK is about 10 minutes from North Wing (about the same amount of time it takes to get there by monorail after stopping at all the other hotels on route). The walk to the pool is about 3 minutes. You can stay under cover from the wings to the main building by a covered walkway. The walkway would bring you in on ground level and you would have to catch an elevator to the monorail/shops/restaurants/etc. A small food is located on the ground level along with the arcade. We just got back from CR a couple weeks ago. We were pleasantly surprised, loved how the resort did not feel compact yet was extremely easy to get around. I'm sure we will be returning!

I actually enjoyed your comment. It reminded me of my wonderful grandfather who was always neat & tidy and had excellent manners. He refused to eat at the table with someone until they took their hat off - hat head or not. Sadly, those days are gone.

Some of us baldies who have to wear the caps to avoid becoming real 'red heads' leave them on when dining cuz if we don't we forget them in the restaurants ;) .

For me it's more when I'm at the parks, but a lot of people dining at CR would be coming from parks.

I have to agree with the comments about the state of undress these days. Most fo the teenage girls you see walking around the parks these days look like they should be working the streets :earseek: :earseek: .
