MSEP to end Oct. 9 - Parade moves to Disneyland for a "limited time"

So sad I'm not going till the 21st Oct, was really looking forward to watching the parade with the kids this time around (the parade which I normally curse a little bit as it blocks off a lot of the park when ride hopping!). I hope there is something to replace it!

Oh no! I just booked all my FP+ last Saturday and scheduled Oct 9 as our MK day. I bet it's going to be crazy! I'm going to have to spend time seeing if I can switch days and get it rearranged.

Interesting comment on the Disney Parks Blog tonight.

"At this time, there are no plans......." But, I suppose none of us know what the future will hold.

Also, with reports that Disney resorts are fairly well booked for the Fall, etc., I wonder if theirs factored into the decision that timing-wise it's OK to not have a nighttime parade during that time frame. They have enough of a lure with F&W and the parties. I totally may be overthinking this.

We saw the parade last year and to be honest, I wouldn't fight large crowds to see it again. IMO, it was nothing great. I know it's a classic, but that's about it.

sigh... Somewhere in the universe a very slow and sad version of Baroque Hoedown is playing right now. :upsidedow

I just hope something amazing comes to replace MSEP. No way those goobers running WDW wait until the 50th to launch a new parade, right? Good heavens, please tell me I'm right.

From the HUB. These are the questions that CM are expected to get and the answers they are supposed to give:

Main Street Electrical Parade heads to Disneyland Park for a limited engagement

The “spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination,” the Main Street Electrical Parade, will be ending its historic run at Magic Kingdom Park and returning to Disneyland Park for a special, limited engagement.

Cast Members and Guests are encouraged to come out to enjoy the “thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthemagnetic musical sounds” one more time before the final performance on Oct. 9. Guests can also check out some of the park’s newest offerings like “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” and, starting Aug. 12, “Princess Elena Royal Welcome.”

After a delightful six years, we bid the Main Street Electrical Parade a fond farewell and look forward to the memories it will create for Disneyland Guests early next year.

Q1. Why is the Main Street Electrical Parade closing?

The Main Street Electrical Parade will be ending its historic run at Magic Kingdom Park and return to Disneyland Park for a special, limited engagement.

Q2. When will the parade be returning to Disneyland?

This limited engagement will begin early next year. We will share more on timing at a later date.

Q3. Is it going away forever/will the parade ever come back?

Right now, we’re looking forward to the memories the Main Street Electrical Parade will create for Disneyland Guests and have nothing more to share.

Q4. Are you replacing Main Street Electrical Parade with anything?

We continue to offer compelling nighttime entertainment, and are constantly adjusting our offerings.

Q5. Will “Paint the Night” from Disneyland Resort be coming in its place?

At this time, there are no plans to bring “Paint the Night” to Walt Disney World Resort. We look forward to sharing more about the future of “Paint the Night” soon.

Q6. Why are you taking Main Street Electrical Parade to Disneyland Resort when they already have Paint the Night?

Main Street Electrical Parade came to Florida in 2010 from the Disneyland Resort, so with this move, it’s returning for a special, limited engagement.

Q7. You have a history of swapping parades. Why isn’t Paint the Night coming to Walt Disney World?

It’s just not part of our plans at this time. We’re looking forward to the memories the Main Street Electrical Parade will create for Disneyland Guests.

Q8. When will DisneyWorld.com / My Disney Experience / OneSource reflect this change?

We are in the process of updating our online calendars.

Q9. What about Guests who may have already booked the Tony’s Town Square lunch package?

We will be contacting Guests who have booked the Tony’s Town Square lunch package and working with them for alternate arrangements.
I love how none of those answers actually answer the questions being asked.

MSEP was my very first parade. I missed it when it was replaced by Spectromagic (amazing show, but not my favorite) and so I'll miss it like an old school friend now it will be leaving again. At least we're not hearing about it going to the scrap yard?

On the other hand, I have another item to put on the "new for everyone" list for our upcoming February trip! Depending on what they replace it with, of course.

This is a crappy, seemingly random decision, because now they're saying that PTN will also run at Disneyland "on select nights during the holiday season" (whatever that means). So Disneyland will have two nighttime parades, and WDW will have...none. All this so they can run PTN occasionally, and MSEP at DL when PTN is not being presented? That makes no damn sense.

Here's something that would make a lot more sense: keep PTN at DL, and MSEP at WDW. MSEP is wildly popular at WDW. I know some California locals have a nostalgic soft spot for the MSEP, but after seeing the technologically advanced PTN, how many will be disappointed by the old parade?

Or they could just move PTN to WDW during MSEP's run at Disneyland.

Any of these options would make a lot more sense than the clueless one they came up with. It's as if they really don't know what to do with two nighttime parades, so someone threw darts at a dartboard, and this is the result.

Or they're just cheaping out on us. Again.

Ahh, the Disney Company practicing politician doublespeak and evading anything resembling a meaningful dialogue. Course, Disney parks = state secrets.

The cheeky part of me would love to respond ''At this time, there are no plans to visit Disney parks until we actually know what you're going to have on offer for guests ahead of schedule''.

I am less upset about losing the parade (though touch my Wishes and I will cut you) and more irritated that I have to add yet another uncertainty to the list of planning items. It is hard to plan ADRS when you have no idea what nighttime entertainment is being planned on a given day. If you're going to force us to plan so far out, FFS give us the tools we need to do it.

I agree 1000%.

We arrive on the 9th October and have a couple of FP's booked yesterday for MK....We've seen the MSEP three times in the last three vacations so I'm not too much bummed out about this..But yes, I think the park will be very busy that night...
