MS 'etiquette' question

Daft question but, when MS asks 'who am I speaking with?', how do you reply?

I've always assumed they were asking for confirmation that the person they're speaking with is someone named on the contract, so I give them my full name. Then I wonder if they just want to know how to address me, i.e. do I want them to call me 'Hilary' or 'Mrs. .......'?

I'm not losing any sleep over this , just wondering about it.

I always assume like you that it's a security type question and respond with my full name, but now you have pointed out the other possibilty I wonder if that's why they always follow up my answer with "can I call you Alan ?"

Maybe next time I call I'll just give them first name and see if they ask for more
