Mrs. Darling's 2010 Half Marathon Trip:Yes, it does snow at Disney World

marathon005.jpg

I got this in December and love it! So soft!

The crab cakes were interesting.:rolleyes1

Probably because you're from Baltimore. Nothing compares to our crab cakes! :thumbsup2

Would I do it again? Well the plan is to run the full marathon next year to get my Mickey Medal

Can't wait to read about it!

Denise

Already done?! :( The trip went too fast and so did your report. :( I'm so glad we're doing it again next year....different plans than this trip, but we're both going back for marathon weekend. You are going to do great for the Full and I can't wait to try for a better time in the Half. And we'll get to hang out too...can't wait to make plans! I'm so excited!! :goodvibes

I'm going for a Mickey medal next year too! (with TnT again)
:woohoo: Will it be your first full? I'm nervous but excited!

Good for you for planning on doing the full marathon:thumbsup2 Can't wait to read about it

I bought an Indian Jones Eeyore a few years ago but I've never seen the Mickey before
An Indiana Jones Eeyore! That is so cool:cool2:

I really like The Wave's decor. What kind of soup was that?

So sad to see your report end. :sad1: I have really enjoyed this one! :goodvibes
I think the soup was some kind of pumpkin or squash soup. It was quite tasty:thumbsup2

You're probably right about the crabcakes. I'm a bit spoiled. Can you believe this storm? I guess it will give me plenty of DIS time for the next few days:goodvibes

I'm so excited about next year's marathon weekend, but it seems so far away! And there is so much training to be done before then:scared:

The best crabcakes I ever had were at Bertha's in Baltimore. :thumbsup2 I'd love one right now.

I can't believe how much snow you guys are supposed to get from this storm! :scared1: And I can't believe how much snow you guys have already had this winter! I must say I'm glad I'm not in the area right now. I had my 8 inches last weekend and I'm good for the year. :rotfl:

I don't want to believe the trip has ended. Really have enjoyed reading this one and so enjoyed all of your pictures from the race. I didn't realize the characters were out like that.

My husband is talking about running the marathon with me now. So you have now help motivate two in this family. Now if the DS would get motivated, but he is hard to motivate for anything.

Ok, TR isn't over yet until the final thoughts, so I'm looking forward to the continuation, just not the end.:goodvibes

I'm sad your trip report has come to an end.:sad2: I've really enjoyed reading it!! :thumbsup2 Again, that's so great you're going to do the full marathon next year! wow!! I can't wait to read all about it!!!;)

Looking forward to your final thoughts.popcorn::

I'll have to try out Bertha's crabcakes! This winter has been unbelievable and this weekend is incredible. There is 2 feet in my driveway and it is still coming and isn't supposed to stop until this evening. I don't think we'll be going out for a few days:rolleyes1

:woohoo: How exciting you are both considering the race! Go for it! It feels great when you're finished (though training isn't always the best)

I can't wait to ready your report from your April trip. Though I'll have to wait at least a couple of months;)

Final Thoughts

Well my trip report has come to an end which in some ways makes me feel like the trip has ended all over again. This trip was very short, but as you can tell it was packed full of great memories. Thank you to all of you who followed along and helped me relive those memories! A special thanks to Liz for helping me make all the great memories.:goodvibes I can’t wait to see you Marathon Weekend 2011. I hope I can meet up with some of the rest of you who are planning on being there in 2011 too. If any of you are out there pondering whether you should take the plunge and go for the Donald I say do it! If I can do this so can you! Just decide to do it, commit to training and before you quite know what hit you, you will be crossing that finish line!:cheer2:

Other thoughts on the trip. I loved staying at Bay Lake Tower.:cloud9: The location is incredible. I’m not sure it beats the location of the Epcot resorts, but it is definitely in the competition. The studio was quite small and I wouldn’t recommend it for anymore than 2 people, but it was just fine for us. Deluxe Dining was fabulous for a short trip. I do think it would be too much food for a long trip, but for a 2 day trip it worked out great. Two of our meals were 2 credit meals so we only had 4 table service meals spread out over three days. Perfect.:thumbsup2 We didn’t need the snacks, but it was nice to be able to take some treats home for the kids.

So as I’ve already mentioned I will be heading back for Marathon weekend 2011. I’m bringing the whole family this time and we are all going to get medals.:dance3: My kids will do either the Mickey Mile or the 5K and DH is going to run the half. (He was going to do the full with me, but then we’d have to figure out what to do with the kids plus his knee has been bothering him.) Then if all goes well next year the plan for 2012 is the Goofy. (the half and full marathon) DH and I will go on a solo trip and I will spend my 40th birthday running in Disney! What could be better? Anyway in 2011 the family will stay in a 2 bedroom at the Boardwalk Villas. I just booked it today! It is my first official reservation as a DVC member. (We just recently joined)

However, before then there are a couple more trips in the works. My parents are taking my daughter on a 10 year old trip. They are going on a Disney cruise (and I’m very jealous.) I will drive down to Florida with all the kids and we’ll leave my daughter with my parents for the cruise. Then the boys and I will go to Disney World. I rented points for an Old Key West studio for a week. The boys and I will have fun by ourselves for the time my daughter is on the cruise and she will join us for the last few days. Then DH is flying down and we will spend a couple of days at Universal (we’re hoping Harry Potter is open) before driving back. It will be a fun trip!:goodvibes

We’re also planning on a quick weekend over Halloween for the party. We’re just going to stay 2 nights. We will probably just go into the Magic Kingdom for the party and spend the other day hanging out at Animal Kingdom Villas. I have big costuming plans for the whole family. Think the Darling Family of Peter Pan fame. (And DH as Peter himself.):cool1:

So those are the current plans, always subject to change. I don’t think I’ll do a PTR, but look out for Darling Family trip reports in June, November and next January. popcorn::

And here is a final shot to end the report. Yes, it does snow in Disney World, but it really snows in Maryland. Here is my back deck at this very moment (and it’s still coming).:scared1:

Thanks again for following along!

Mrs. Darling (but my friends call me Jenny):grouphug:

I didn't realize it was going to be a family trip in January! Very nice. :thumbsup2 I am excited to finally get to meet you.

I'm looking forward to hearing all about your June trip!

That picture is just craziness!!! :scared1: It's been raining heavy here since yesterday afternoon and it's supposed to turn to snow a little later when a cold front comes in. But, we'll only get an inch or so.

Awesome TR Jenny! I loved reading it!!! You have definitely gotten me motivated to start running again!:goodvibes

My husband does his 1st Half Marathon tomorrow! It is a very small race, with no big production, and certainly no characters or gospel choir meeting him at the end. So I have to get back to running so that we can both do a joint Half Marathon ourselves in WDW and I can show him how a Disney race is done!;)

I am very jealous of all of your upcoming trips! How exciting!!!

And great idea about the getting the whole family involved in next year's marathon!

You will have to post the link for your next TR here once you start it! I don't want to miss it, and I am already looking forward to seeing your family decked out in "Darling" attire!:goodvibes

Aww I'm sad your TR is over, but have loved reading it :)

Well done to you guys again :)

Your future plans look pretty cool and how lucky is DD going on her first Disney cruise?

Can't wait to read your next TR:goodvibes Sounds like the marathon weekend next year is goingto be loads of fun for everyone!!!

Great report Jenny! I'll be there next year for the full too! I just booked a 2br at BLT from 1/3-1/6 and I'll be with TnT for the rest of the week. Hopefully my TNT friends will stay with me at BLT, but I'll switch to a smaller room if they don't join me. Hope to see you next year!

Wah! It's over! What a great report, I enjoyed every post. Hurray for DVC! You will so love staying in a 2br. I don't think I could even do a regular room with the kids anymore, I am just too spoiled!

My dad and stepmom are taking my oldest dd and her cousin on a cruise this March. Not a Disney cruise, but a 7 day Carnival to Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. I am a tad jealous myself. And I don't even get to go to WDW while they are gone (you lucky duck!). We'll drive down and get her, so we'll at least get a few days at my dad's house in Florida over Easter. I'll just keep telling myself it would be way to busy at the parks anyway.

Stay warm! That is some crazy amount of snow you all are getting! Hope you stocked up on bread and milk!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us! :thumbsup2

My DH and I did the Disneyland Half together in 2007 and had so much fun! I totally recommend it so get out there!:cheer2: I'll let you know when I start my next trip report.

Aww I'm sad your TR is over, but have loved reading it :)

Well done to you guys again :)

Your future plans look pretty cool and how lucky is DD going on her first Disney cruise?
I am super jealous that DD gets to go on a Disney cruise and I don't. The upside is I'll get a week at Disney World so I can't complain too loud.

Can't wait to read your next TR:goodvibes Sounds like the marathon weekend next year is goingto be loads of fun for everyone!!!

BLT is perfect for the marathon. Can't beat beingon the monorail! I hope we get to meet sometime that weekend!

I don't want to wait a whole year for that 2 bedroom. I'm super excited! What is up with grandparents taking their grandkids on cruises without us? I am glad I still get to go to Disney World. The snow is around 30 inches and it hasn't stopped yet. It is insanity:scared:

I'm so excited about next year's marathon weekend, but it seems so far away! And there is so much training to be done before then:scared:

The time will fly! It's already been 4 weeks since we did the half!! I can't believe it. You'll be starting your full training before you know it!

A special thanks to Liz for helping me make all the great memories.

Right back atcha, it was an awesome trip that I'll never forget. :goodvibes

I've really enjoyed the behind the scenes of the half marathon. I made our reservation at Bay Lake yesterday.:woohoo: Maybe I will see you running next year.:)

I really enjoyed reading your report, and you've inspired me to try the "Couch to 5K" program.

I'm looking forward to reading all about future trips!

Denise
