Mr. Disney & Kevin lunch with the Princesses in Norway!

THANK YOU for the info. I will definitely be picking up some of this at home. We have a very good cheese shop in our local market.
Hi

Small correction: What you referring to is NOT made from goats milk, it's regular milk that has been caramelized. We call it "Brunost" - brown cheese.
It's available in larger grocery stores in the US under the name "Ski Queen". Made by Tine Meierier (same as Jarlsberg).
True goats chese has a much stronger flavor, and a slightly drier consistency and is more and more becomming a specialty item - even here.

In the beginning Brunost contained 35% goats milk, but that's years ago.

Sincerly
Hedvig, who just ate her lunch sandwich with Brunost, in Oslo, Norway

Hi

Rice Cream;
Cook short grained rice with milk for approx 1 hour :stir: (or, stop by the store and buy the 5 minute version...).

This is our regular "Grøt" (porridge) which we eat regularly (requested for dinner today by DD6, actually)
We season it with sugar and cinamon and put a "dollop" of butter in the middle.

This is also what awaits Santa on christmas eve, when he visits. Also this is traditionally what all Norwegian "Nisser" eats.

To make Rice Cream you let the porridge cool, whip it until it gets a lighter conistency and add whiped cream flavored with sugar and vanilla.

If you don't eat "Grøt" for lunch on christmas eve, it's fairly usual to have Rice Cream for dessert. One almond is hid in the dessert and the lucky winner gets a price (usually a marzipan pig - an other x-mas tradtion here). :santa:

As for Lutefisk, who in their right mind eats food softened in the same stuff you use to strip paint :rotfl2:

Sincerely
Hedvig - 49 days to WDW.
And dinner at Akershus, with DD6 it's unavoidable :tink:

Oh my gosh where did you get that picture? Have you actully eaten that. I am sorry if you are a lutefisk fan but YUCK :p Pickked fish the consistency of jello is not a good idea in my book. Having been stuck (shhhh dont tell my DH) in MN I have smelled my share at the lutheren potlucks. As if the unusual things they do with jello is not already enough, they had to do it to the fish............ :confused3 By the way if anyone is a Prairie Home Companion fan -- it is for REAL :rotfl:

Stop making me laugh so loud at work!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: I think the guy in the next cubicle is going to request a move!!!

Anyway, his name needs to be much cooler than that! I'll get my 6 year old to work on it....
So any word on what Kevin's name should be as my sidekick?!?!?

He is in the process of writing up the opening "scene" for the dessert review of Bistro de Paris......so we need suggestions NOW!!!

Well Batman has Robin (the boy wonder) so maybe Kevin can be "Mr D's Boy Wonder"?
Just a thought!

Asking the kid didn't work out. Since he is obsessed with Star Wars his "food themed" suggestion was Obi-Wan Cannolli. :yoda:

Love the reviews Mister Disney (and Kevin)! - this one brought back memories of lunch last week. For anyone on the fence about the food at Akershus - I can recommend the "safe" option of leek soup and open face salmon sandwich. I'm not a huge salmon fan but this was very good and a generous portion. DH loved the kjottkake. The girls were very happy with the kid food (grilled chicken and pasta/meatballs).

They need to add a bowl of brown sugar next to the lefse so it can be properly prepared :) but we made do with butter and a packet of sugar on the table. If you ever get to try lefse made by someone's grandma, it's way better than the stuff served at Akershus! I need to have another lefse lesson from DH's grandma this year.

And thank goodness there WASN'T Lutefisk on the buffet. The smell alone would have people running out the door. My funny story about lutefisk comes from my aunt, when she and her mom and grandma traveled to Norway to visit relatives a few years ago. They were talking about traditions that we have carried on here in the US and brought up Lutefisk on Christmas Eve. The Norwegian cousins were aghast and said, "You mean you still eat that $#!t? We quit once we got refrigerators." :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Ok, I know that the princess meals are geared to boys, and really not geared to teenage boys. However, last year, my DS and his best friend seemed to enjoy it. :rolleyes1 :rotfl: :rolleyes1

Truth be told, this picture was taken so Mister Disney could send it to my boss to "use as he sees fit".

I've worked hard at convincing people that I'm of different demographics and now look what happens. BLACKMAIL PICTURES! :wizard:

What's the "vig" going to be on this one?!?!?! :bounce: :bounce:

what does one do with their sons during an event like this? I do not recalling seeing boys there....

Great review. Thanks for all the info! You guys are great! BTW, Those with boys, do Chef Mickey or something like that. My son would die if I made him eat with the Cinderella! :rotfl2:

Silent Kevin? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Oh gosh.....you have no idea how vocal and forward and dominant Kevin can be. He's almost more dominant than me!

I'm truly the quiet one in the family, HONEST!

I would say the main banquet hall rates right up there with theming at CRT, but the side dining room is ho hum boring.

We were seated over on the left as you walked in when we dined there last year. Perhaps it is reserved seating for those of "different demographics"!

It was rather nice though that we were right next to the door where the Princesses come out. We got to see them first whilst the other demographics had to wait! :wizard:

As Ariel vanished, I caught the sight of the most wonderful Princess in the World, NONE other than Cinderella!!!!!

She graciously came up to our table when it was our turn and greated us and asked us if we would like our picture taken with her. I felt like saying "Do you know who you are talking to? You should be asking to have your picture taken with me, Mister Disney of the DIS Board!"
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

In the light of being a man and taking the high road, I decided to accept her offer of our picture being taken with her.

Mister Disney, this Princess is the one who showered my Special Needs son with lots of PD in December. She holds a very special place in our hearts. BTW, a DISer is "very good friends" with this Cinderella. I will PM her the picture!
