Hey everyone, I'm being furloughed from my job for a couple months and I'm going to use this opportunity to follow my dream and move down to Orlando. I am looking for a place to stay... an apartment share, studio, room. Do any locals know of any places?

Thanks!

Your best bet is probably Craigslist. Good luck with the move!

We are considering moving back at some point too

Good luck with the move! If for some reason your plans shift to Anaheim, I can reach out to a few friends there.

We are retiring to Orlando in 3years fom Las Vegas and we can't wait. We have started looking at areas in the downtown area and within 15 miles of out favorite place on the planet. By any chance does anyone know the downtown area at all?

Many thanks in advance!!

I know it a little, but have a few friends who live in that area. If you have specific questions just send me a message. If I don't know the answer Ill ask my friends.

If we move back we are considering that area as well. My friends love living in that area.

I am moving to S. Orange Blossom Tr area from San Francisco next month. Can anyone in Orlando give me an insight of the area? I have explored the area and the bus system a bit but not very familiar with them. I will not have any car.

OBT is pretty big/long and runs most of Orlando. How far south?

That really makes a big difference because some of OBT is sketchy/not very nice.

Do you know the name of the area/neighborhood/complex etc you will be living in?

Not that familiar with that area. Looks like its close to the Florida Mall? That area can be iffy.

It is very close to Florida Mall. A few blocks away. It has buses that go to Seaworld and Universal Studios. I won't be driving in the first year. So, I thought of moving somewhere close to a shopping mall and public transportations.

My sister is in a nice-ish rental community about 2 miles north of the airport off S Semoran Blvd. My parents found a gorgeous community about 40 miles NW of Orlando in Groveland, called Trilogy Orlando; all the homes are solar-equipped.

Just be careful around that area at night. Where will you be working?

I think if we move back we will probably go just North of downtown/ or north or Orlando like Winter Park area. My friends that live in downtown Orlando love it, so we would look at that too, but Id like to be a bit more suburban.

South of the airport is getting really nice too with Lake Nona etc down that way.

I used to own a house in Celebration and Id love to live there again. Very cute community and super close to the parks.

I've been fantasizing about moving down that way too someday! It's just been a potential dream at this point. I really like the look of Lake Nona and Winter Park! Lake Nona seems new with an upcoming commercial district, but Winter Park seems closer to UCF and more of a college town. I really like college towns and their laid-back, culturally open, and diverse populations. Can anyone shed more light on these areas? Are my projections accurate? It may be several years before I'm actually in a position to make a move down there.

Winter Park is really nice.

We really liked Lake Nona, it's kind of it own self contained neighborhood really (which seems to be the new thing happening in Orlando). Basically you will have most of what you want around there.

We looked at Lake Nona and really liked it (as well as another similar neighborhood/area) but they seemed way out from a lot of stuff. So it would be a hike to get some stuff, especially anything in the downtown Orlando area. Also seems more family orientated.

I would look at the areas next time you visit, but sounds like you might like Winter Park more. That is kind of our favorite area right now, as well as Dr. Philips (I think that's it, the neighborhood where the Whole Foods is).

Thanks; it does seem like Lake Nona is its own self-contained still developing town. Lake Nona and Winter Park are about a 30-minute drive east of the parks, right? Do they have a local vibe? Are people friendly? Are people gay-friendly? Is it all it's cracked up to be? I have this perfect vision in my mind but I realize it's just imagination at this point.

I would say those two areas are pretty gay friendly. We never had issues really (Ive lived in Hunters Creek, Celebration and downtown area).

Winter Park is going to be north of the downtown and depending on traffic can be a nightmare getting to the parks. When I lived in Celebration, I worked downtown and sometimes it could take me an hour or more to go the like 20 miles. Traffic can be pretty bad.

Good to know! I'd definitely want to reside close to work. I can't stop looking at Orlando real estate--it's so addictive.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I found a place that's about 15 minutes from the parks. I'm glad that this thread continued and others were able to also get information about making the move to Orlando.

Congratulations! You're staying there for the length of your furlough? Might I ask what you decided and how you found it? Please keep us dreamers posted on your experience!
