Moving ADRs to a new reservation IF free dining is announced?

If I book a reservation (hotel/tickets) >180 days before our trip (to be able to make the ADRs), then free dining is announced at some point (if we're very lucky)...my question is this: when free dining is announced, it's often difficult to get through on the phones and not always possible to "modify" an existing reservation online, so...if I instead booked a NEW reservation (with free dining) online, can I "transfer" my ADR's from the prior reservation to this new one (if that makes sense), then cancel the original reservation (the one without free dining)? Are ADRs "tied" to reservations this way? Thanks in advance!

Your ADRs are not tied to your reservation. You can cancel or change and it will not impact your ADRs.

Any foreseeable problem to doing what I'm considering (i.e. essentially using the original reservation as a "dummy" reservation to make ADRs, then making the 2nd reservation online as a way to avoid the loooong phone waits)? Are you planning on creating a whole new MDE account? If you do, it really doesn't matter, the ADRs do not need to be in the same MDE as your reservation. But if you are making a new reservation in the same MDE, nothing would change with the ADRs at all.

Not planning on a new MDE account (too complicated). Just wanting to be sure my ADRs are linked correctly (magic band-wise, I guess). Thanks again!

No. Reread the previous answer:

Gotcha. Thanks. So nothing prevents folks staying off-site from just making a "dummy" hotel reservation, scheduling ADRs 180 (+10 ?) days out, then cancelling their hotel reservation? (Sorry, this just dawned on me...)

On this same note, I "should" cancel my hotel reservation after making ADRs to "help" the chance at free dining (i.e. fewer reservations booked perhaps/hopefully betters the odds of discounted offers like free dining when sales are otherwise "low")...

Why make the reservation to begin with, then? You can make ADR's without a reservation.

With the reservation, I can make ADRs 180 + 10 days ahead of my trip. Without the reservation, I can only make ADRs 180 days ahead, which means having to call daily (starting at the 180 day mark) to make ADRs and means less likelihood of getting hard-to-get ADRs towards the end of our stay.

True. And to answer your previous question, there's nothing stopping someone from using 180+10 and then canceling the room. Other than, "is it worth the hassle?".

Are you going either way? Staying at that resort either way? If yes, I'd keep the reservation to make sure you get what you want.
