Movies That Can't Be Remade/Updated

Terminator
Well thank you! Goes to show how well I keep track of this stuff, lol. Yeah, guess not really a remake.

I have to bring teen DS to Frozen2 because he has to write it up for school paper. Then I'm going in the other theatre for Terminator. Talk about role reversal, haha.

I do not want Harry Potter remakes EVER. I will be seriously angry if they try.

Maybe they'll get the later ones right if they redo them...

Sorry to hijack, but I haven't been able to watch Half-Blood Prince since it came out.

Now those I'd love to see remade to be more faithful to the books. Maybe as a series instead of a movie so they can fit more in.

Yes!!!

A couple more;
Repo Man - we practically had that on an endless loop in the dorms when I was in college and could quote the movie verbatim.
Rocky Horror Picture Show

A Star is Born was great the first time. The next three were awful.

I'm tacking Leon the Professional onto my list for obvious reasons.

Two pages and nobody has said it? STAR WARS! There's always new stories to be told in the universe of course, but a remake? Nope!

Hollywood is so preoccupied with whether or not they could remake these movies they never thought if they should.
Well played.

The Matrix series.
I believe one of the Wachowskis (Lily?) is either rebooting or continuing the series.

Gone With the Wind
The King & I
Paper Moon
Grapes of Wrath
The Great Gatsby
I don't know that Grapes of Wrath would even do well nowadays. Not sure if people would be into a movie where the summary could be "During the Depression, life sucked. Then it got worse."

If Lucas still owned Star Wars I could see him doing a remake because he wouldn't be able to help himself.

Also they should have used the (now not-in-continuity) Zahn novels for 7, 8 and 9, but that's just my opinion.

George might have done an all CGI remake - basically a Special Edition that replaces every shot, ha ha! I support George's tinkering though so it might not even upset me.

Hocus Pocus - I know a sequel or whatever is coming out, but unless the original cast is in it, including Binx and Billy, I have no interest.

Labyrinth - David Bowie will always be the one and only Goblin King

American History X - just as relevant now as it was in the late 90s. Gut wrenching

I’m also with the people that said Princess Bride and Willow.

I’m sure there are more...I’ll add as I think of them

He's brought both good and bad with his tinkering. "Actually, Han didn't shoot first" is an all-timer of a gaffe though.

You know, it never bothered me - I only disliked the way it looked originally, not the concept. It looks better now in the later releases so I'm all good with it. I don't see why it's so important that he shoot first, not that I minded that he did. I think George should have progressively added stuff to that scene to the point that he and Greedo get in a fist fight, knock over the table, cause chaos all over the cantina, then it ends the same way - "Sorry about the mess." That's just me wanting to troll the fans though. ;)

Generally, I think every change has been an improvement really, but that's just my take.

Honestly, I think a Special Edition of the prequels would be well received if done properly....re-edit some things and really improve the CGI to 2019 standards. A lot of it feels very dated and almost like a PS3 game. Additionally, much of the CGI made things feel way too "clean" compared to the originals which felt very "lived in".

Change some dialogue, remove a few cringey scenes and maybe figure out a way to replace some dialogue and you'd have a much better trilogy.

Well, I love the prequels, but I'll never argue about smoothing out the effects. I liked that in the OT as well. I think the prequels were supposed to be "cleaner" though because it was a cleaner time, "before the dark times, before the Empire" - it's a visual reflection of that, so I never minded it.
