Movies for 12 Year Old Girl Bday Party?

Oh Blast From the Past is really cute - that'd be good, as wood Beetlejuice, total classic.

And yeah, this threa clearly shows people are different. I'd assume the OP knows her kid's friends - same as someone is taking her daughter and friends to a horror flick and someone was uncomfortable watching Back to the Future with her fifteen-year-old.

As to Mamma Mia, I don't recall anything suggesting it wasn't set in current day. If it was supposed to be set 20 or whatever years ago, I'd get it but I don't remember getting that impression...

I didn't mean I thought Seyfried's character was actually supposed to be 40, just btw, I meant I thought they were sloppy translating it to film.

To correct myself, in BTTF it was the Libyans in the parking lot, not Iranians (honestly couldn't remember), and I think there was some liberal use of the f-bomb. I could be wrong, but... FWIW, we don't swear at all, not even h-e-double hockey sticks or dam..n, so this was pretty uncomfortable. Just the way we are, I guess.

Yes, you are right it was the Libyans not Iranians. :)
There is cursing in BTTF, but the f-word is not used in the movie. There are some sexual references so I'm surprised it was rated PG. Of course I don't think PG-13 rating was around when it was originally released so that could be why.

ETA Just looked and PG-13 was created in 1984, I think the movie was out after that, but I'm not sure.

It can be tough. I would want to show something fairly recent that not all the girls have seen already. Dolphin Tale, Soul Surfer and Monte Carlo are pretty cute I'd imagine most kids have seen them by now though. Glee in concert maybe if they're fans. The smurfs was cute. Any of the Disney Channel movies are good like "Frenemies" or "Geek Charming"

What about Chasing Liberty or What a Girl Wants?

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but Swiss Family Robinson is good. We watched it tonight. Plus the older brothers are decent eye candy for a 12 year old girl. ;)

I have a 13 year old and her and her friends love Labrynth, Teen Witch, and Poltergeist. Poltergeist is actually rated PG. I love watching them with them too bc it's like a blast from the past!

Ladybugs (the soccer movie where a boy dresses up to play on the girl's team). I think it was geared towards the 12 year old set

Hi! Thanks for all the ideas and opinions.

I love the idea of Soul Surfer and Dolphin Tale. My daughter is not as excited about Dolphin Tale, but it sound good to me.

Also Princess Bride is a great suggestions. My friends and I loved that movie when we were in high school.

I have to watch mean girls and see how it is.

I think High School Musical is cute, but that is soooo out and babyish (according to daughter). I think it stopped being cool around age 8 or 9. Sigh.

I think my favorite choice is Soul Surfer.

Thanks for the ideas, I knew I'd get a lot of help here!

Lisa
