A great movie but something that will require some attention.

EVERYONE in the music industry has an axe to grind with Sean Parker! Napster diddled them out of millions of dollars in royalties. Folks in the film industry also intensely dislike him because of his blatant disregard for copyright. He made himself a target for a movie; it was only a matter of time.

Sorkin has been interviewed several times re: the character portrayals in TSN. It was based on Ben Mezrich's book The Accidental Billionaires -- and Mezrich is known for going for dramatic effect. Sorkin just transformed that into good dialogue.

Eisenberg said that he personally came up with that thousand-yard stare that he gave Zuckerberg's character; the real Zuckerberg doesn't seem to look through people when they talk to him; not that I have seen in interviews, anyway. Also, the real Zuckerberg didn't start FB over being rejected by a girlfriend (though I rather doubt that the whole issue of college guys using it to meet girls never crossed his mind.) He is still involved with the same woman that he was then; I believe that she's now a medical student at Stanford.

I watched this over the weekend and have to say that I walked away wondering who paid for the hatchet job. WOW, either the Zukerberg is seriously the biggest loser on 2 feet OR somebody went through a great deal of trouble to make him look bad. Once it was over all I could think about was the movie called "Pirates of Silicon Valley" which was eerily similar. Both films were absolutely scathing and made all the big guys out to be megalomaniacs, Sean Parker was made to look like a particularly enormous a-hem... I saw an interview with Aaron Sorkin in which he said he also pored over the different court transcripts and wanted to present all three sides, from the different sides, so the audience could decide & sort for themselves which stories are right. Since two of the three sides were in litigation against Zuckerberg, of course he would look bad, being 2 against one.


An aside: TMZ reported that Zuckerberg still lives in the same shabby house with his long time girlfriend. Harvey Levin called it the "Marvin v. Marvin," tactic. Decades ago, actor Lee Marvin was famously sued by his GF, in the landmark "palimony" case, to be kept in the lifestyle she'd become accustomed to.

Harvey thinks that if Zuckerberg & his GF break up she can't sue for millions or billions, as they aren't living such a fancy lifestyle and she's not accustomed to a billionaire lifestyle.

I thought that was an odd idea, even for Harvey Levin. But, then, Zuckerberg was sued by his own best friend & co-founder, for not giving him what he rightfully deserves, and is in a litigation with the twins for lack of integrity for stealing intellectual property.

Whoa! That didn't look like the outside of the house they showed in the pic on TMZ, nor was that the girlfriend they showed him with.

Uggh, Harvey from TMZ couldn't possibly be a more high maintenance vain guy if he tried, the show is ok but they are a vapid bunch.

He probably can't get why guys like Zukerberg and Parker and all the other out there do what they do just to break boundaries and prove genius doesn't always have a price. Personally I like the philosophy, very "Tom Sawyer" from Rush. I don't think I buy that all of them are driven by spite, maybe they just resent the idea of being used just like millions of other people out there... except they were born with the God given ability to do something about it and choose to do so. Very provocative.

I'm not doubting you. But, in the movie and in the TMZ pic, they showed a caucasian gal, who was Zuckerberg's GF. I remember thinking, "Wow, they really cast an actress that looks a lot like his real GF."

In the film, his best friend, Eduardo, was the one with the Asian GF, not Zuckerberg.

In real life, Zuckerberg has the Asian GF?
I'm confused.

I enjoyed the movie, although had to have my husband explain some of the techy stuff, and I needed to pay attention.

The book however is much more interesting. I'm not done it yet, but I think it goes into much more detail about him and facebook.
