It's offtopic but humor me, its not something we see every day around here (though NC is a very popular place for movie and TV production). A movie staring Orlando Bloom and Colin Firth has been shooting in Downtown Durham for a few weeks. They wrapped up filming tonight with a scene involving a truck crash. The set is along my commute route and less than a mile from my office in RTP, NC.
Proving that you can walk around and do just about anything if you look and act like you belong there. Here are some photos. Sorry no photos of stars, this was all 2nd unit stuff.
The crash scene, it freaked some drivers out, especially with the scary looking yellow barrels.
Another angle on the scene. You can see the lighting rigs setup along the offramp. Also note the cranes over the scene, there are rain bar mounted there to create rain (though we got 4 inches of the real stuff in an hour last night) as they were beginning their shooting for the evening.
Lots and lots of support vehicles. Some provided power, some stored camera, lighting and rigging equipement
Crew prepping a rain bar
A wider shot showing one of the many rain bars positioned over the scene
This is what the trucks look like pre-wrecked. There were 7 of them total. 2 wrecked, and 5 working. I'm curious to see how it plays out in the final scene.
I'm assuming these are used in the filming since they were all parked off to the side. State Trouper vehicles appear to be real so they may be for traffic control but the Durham police cars are fakes. Just standard vehicles inside.
