It is our first time as a DVC member. We are staying at OKW January 5-11 in a 1Br villa. It is my understanding that housekeeping comes by on the fourth day of our stay. Do they provide several sets of towels or are you responsible to wash your own towels daily? Do they provide laundry detergent? Also, do they provide four days worth of coffee or should we purchase some through the grocer?

We just came back from OKW Oct.16 and they will replace all towels you set in the bath tub for replacement. If you want daily service you will have to set this up with check in and you will be charged for daily service. They will have 1 unit of soap for laundry and 1 days worth of coffee. If you need more you can buy supplies at the small store across from check-in.

You will basically get one towel for each possible registered guest (ie. 1 bedroom: 4 or 5 depending on the room, 2 bedroom: 8 or 9, etc.). If you want additional towels, you can call at any time and request a towel pack, there is a cost to each towel pack.

I have to ask, do you wash your towels at home everyday?

A 1 BR at OKW will have 4 towels, 2 hand towels and 4 washcloths. On day 4, after 3 nights, they will come by and empty the trash, replace the towels as they were before and are supposed to replenish the soaps, shampoos, clothes detergent, coffee and the like. In my experience they often don't do all of these, esp the washing detergent. A towel pack of 4 additional is $6 and they will not replace those on the Trash and Towel day (will leave 4 instead of 8). Often we throw the towels in the laundry on that morning. They won't take them out of the laundry and will still leave the usual set of 4. If you're one that has to have a clean towel every day, I'd either wash every day or get a towel pack early and wash every other day. Some unscrupulous characters steal the pool towels in this situation.

Is the 4 count still true now that the 1 bedroom officially sleeps 5?

Also many Mousekeepers will just give you extra towels if you ask nicely.

If you are inclined to wash towels daily at home, then yes, you will want to do that on vacation as well. We don't wash our towels daily either at home or on vacation...We just hang them to dry and when trash and towel day rolls around, we get replacements then. I do, however usually throw wash cloths in the washer whenever I do a load of clothes. I never feel there are enough wash cloths.

FYI, you will only get one single use box of Tide and one coffee pack to start. We always bring or buy our own coffee. We can't use Tide because of allergy issues, so we store a full sized bottle of our detergent in our Owner's Locker. We find if we buy even a small bottle of laundry liquid, it tends to last several trips.

For some reason....we go through towels like crazy. I bring Purex laundry sheets with me and will, in fact, throw towels in a wash if I need them before the 4th day. (Assumption is a one/two bedroom villa.) I'm not loving laundry, but throwing a wash in also keeps down the amount I pack for a trip. Not a lot of effort. Anyway...last time I'd forgotten my Purex sheets but whenever I saw Mousekeeping in the hallway, they were more than happy to give me another box.

Not sure, last I heard they were only leaving 4 but I suppose one could ask for 5, doesn't change the basics though, does it? I realize that often people ask for extra and aren't charged but what I quoted is the technical answer.
