Mousekeeping

I asked this question inside another thread, but thought I'd like more input.

Do you tip Mousekeeping?

How much per day? I'm assuming it's a different "mousekeeper" each day, so tipping each day is what is appropriate?

I would love any feedback any of you can provide from previous visits to the DLR.

I always tip house or mousekeeping, no matter where we go. Normally I tip $1 a day per person. If I have a huge list of requests (I always ask for extra pillows, extra blankets/sheets that aren't comforters, extra towels and lotion our first night), I'll leave an extra buck or two.

We tip a $1 a person/day. Since we're a family of 4, we usually tip $4 a day.

I also normally tip $1 per person per day. But when I'm travelling solo, I usually leave $2 a day.

My parents used to tip at the end of the trip then finally realized that the person cleaning our room might not always be the same one every day so they started switching to the $1 a day per person, maybe a few extra if they do an extra magical job!!

I agree with everyone else no matter where I stay I tip a $1.00 a day (per person in the room.), but if I'm solo $2.00. I always need more coffee, and an extra towel. I put the extra towel on the floor ,am I being to worried?

I was just talking to a friend about this. My room was nice and clean and I was getting a bunch of Mickey shampoo and soaps (DL Hotel) then I tipped $10 and all my extra lotions etc stopped coming!! I thought I offended them with a crummy tip, but it sounds like $10 was fine.

I always leave them a couple of dollars everyday. The amount depends on how much cash I have in my pocket at the time.

We rarely make special requests and always try to pick up after ourselves.

At WDW, we (the 2 of us) tip $5 a day if the room is nice and clean. We tidy up after ourselves, but we like getting fresh towels everyday. And we always take the Mickey soaps and stuff and put them in our luggage every morning so they bring us more.

What I want to know is why the people who don't tip haven't replied as to why they don't tip?

$1/2 per person (adult), per day . . . We do not have children yet, so we will have to readdress this when we do. When it is just the two of us we usually round it up to $5.

I voted No on the poll. I've never tipped a housekeeper when staying at a hotel - I've never considered it as a proper protocol. I tip waiters/waitresses and the people who cut my hair, but I've never really considered it for hotel housekeepers. Maybe it is because there is no face-to-face interaction with them, or because it just seems like it is their job - like the person at the reception desk or the groundskeeper. I wouldn't think it would be normal to tip those people either.

Based on the results it looks like I am in the minority, but it has really never been a consideration for me.

No I never tip I honestly never knew people tipped housekeepers until I joined the disboards. My family never tipped in all the hotels we stayed at when I was growing up. The housekeeping is included in the price I pay to stay at the hotel I don't feel it's necessary to tip extra.

One of my many hotel jobs during high school/college years was in housekeeping. NEVER got tipped. Maybe it's due to that experience that I don't tip housekeeping. Never got tipped when I was running the front desk, doing the night audit, etc. either. Only time I saw a tip was when I drove the hotel van. It was irritating when you went the extra mile for guests that didn't tip, but honestly, that was my job, so I couldn't complain too much. Unlike servers (waiters/waitresses), housekeeping, front desk, etc. are paid the minimum wage or higher.

(Not flaming, just adding to the why's/why not) - it is also a server's job to bring you your food and get you your drink and the same goes for a hairdresser. . . youare paying them to do heir job serve/cut hair but still tip them.

We tip all of these types of personal service jobs. . . I guess with housekeeping is that I want to have a happy person cleaning my room, who know what they can do in your room if you are not tipping (same reason many don't send food back, you don't want them to spit in it, lol).

We grew up fairly poor and once in a blue moon when we could go on a one-day trip somewhere still always tipped. Perhaps it is because my mom was a hotel maid once upon a time, too.

Just out of interest I wonder if people who tip get a better service than those who do not. In that I mean do they get extra towel animals, Mickey soaps, extra towels etc? Here in the UK tipping is not really part of our culture, I would not leave a tip in a hotel in Europe. When we go to WDW we stay at the BCV so do not have daily housekeeping but as we are aware tipping is a bigger part of the US culture we leave a tip at the end of our stay. I am still pondering over the whole tipping housekeeping question. For our 2 1/2 week trip $5 a day adds up to a lot, $2 a day I would consider if it were expected of me. When I visit the US tipping is one thing I am paranoid about as I can easily forget as we do not really do it over here!!

Yes we tip $1.oo per person. However we don't leave the room messy or we would tip more. Basically all they have to do is make the bed and clean the bathroom. We clean it every am before we leave for the parks. I make cute mousekeeping envelopes for them. You can go to www.mouseforless.com for great ideas. enjoy

I tip about $3 a day but on our last visit, my gd got a bloody nose while sleeping and the bed had all kinds of blood on it so I told the mousekeeper I was sorry and handed her $5
