Motion sickness on the kiddie rides

Is there a thread somewhere that talks about motion sickness on the "kiddie" rides, like dumbo, or the teacup. My boyfriend and I have issues with spinning, so we haven't tried them but we would like to if they're manageable.

I'm not sure if there is another thread but I do tend to get motion sickness on a lot of rides too. I always make sure to pack Dramamine, the non-drowsy version, and take two in the morning before heading out to the parks. It has saved me from wasted time sitting on benches to get my bearings (DH now knows that I can't ride EE 3 times in a row...haha!). Really just make sure you get the non-drowsy kind though because I accidently took the regular type once and could hardly keep my eyes open. Have fun!

Thanks! Actually, we're really weird. We can ride EE no problem but anything that goes only in circles or only up and down is probably a no. But it depends on how fast, how much spinning etc. We miss out on a lot of the classic rides because of that.

I don't know of another thread. But for what it's worth, my DBF can't do spinning rides usually and avoids the Teacups but did fine on the Dumbos on our last trip.
Good luck and have fun! :goodvibes

Some of the rides would probably be ok, but I'm trying to do some research to find out what's not that bad. I wouldn't want to take that gamble.

I don't do spinning rides. last time I did was one of those kiddie strawberry spinners at a fair, and I was down for the count the rest of the day

That said, I'm ok on Dumbo or Flying carpets for the most part, although is boring. I'm content watching the kids on it. And the teacups, I avoid like the plague. I also avoid Primeval Whirl @ AK.

Since different people are bothered by different kinds of motion it is hard to tell you how bad one ride is versus another. Some people can do coasters but not simulators. Some can do spinning but not drops. Some can do speed but not spinning, etc.

I have extreme motion sickness. I take dramamine just to ride in the car more than 30 minutes.

I tried to non-drowsy dramamine once and had a very bad side effect. I would try it at home before the trip if I were you. While it did not make me sleepy it did make me feel drugged, like I had a concrete block tied to each limb, all day. Terrible. I will never take it again.

I can do things like Dumbo and the carousel, I can't do the Tea Cups and would never try PW. I don't do coasters.

Good luck to you, I hope you find something that works. What I love about Disney is that there are still plenty of things there people like me can do ;)

Thanks for all your help guys. I might just have to try them out and see what happens. But just to double check, you can control how much you spin on the teacups, right?

This is true. I guess I was just wondering if people had as many issues with kiddie rides as they do with coasters.

meds do not help me. I can not ride teacups, carousel or anything the goes in circles but I can ride coasters and tot with no problems. I also get car sick in cars and buses but can fly with no problems. I can cruise if I do not look out windows or over the rail. just go and enjoy what you can do. do not worry about what you can not do

Exactly the same here too! Only I can ride the carousel as the bigger circle doesn't seem to affect me, and even managed PW, but didn't do well at all on Astro Orbiter or Triceratop Spin.

Agreed, you don't have to ride everything. I would never risk ruining the rest of my day feeling sick by just taking a chance.

I have issues with spinning too. I take a 1/2 tablet of Dramamine at the beginning of the day. That doesn't drug me up, but I can handle all the rides no problem.

DH has really bad motion sickness. He gets scopolamine patches from the dr. and is able to ride all the kiddy rides with me and DS without any problems.

I like the patches, but they are expensive. I can't do a car or plane or boat without drugs at all. I just take the regular dramamine and sleep.

To the OP, many people love the non-drowsy dramamine. It is the same drug as Bonine. I hope it works for you.

Definitely will try! Thanks for the help everyone.

I do the half tablet of Dramamine and keep a little motion sickness emergency bag in my backpack with ginger flavored hard candies, one of those instant cold packs, etc.

Have you ever tried ginger? It comes in capsules wherever vitamins are sold. I use them for flying and boats and if I know I'm going to do something that will bother me. I take one or two depending on the length and amount of motion. They last quite awhile, most of the day, though I've not really timed it. But I fly 5 hours to WDW and only take them just before the flight, so they last that long. But definitely doesn't leave you with any sort of a drugged feeling.
