Motion Sickness on Forbidden Journey?

So, the older I get, the more motion sickness prone I get. My doctor gave me new little pills to try since I told him even on our last winery windy road drive I started to feel ill, in the FRONT seat. Amalfi coast was only possible with lots of dramamine and eyes closed at times.

Spiderman? I liked it a lot a few years ago...then did it again the year after and felt sick. Simpsons? Ick! Not good.

So, my question for those of you that have done Forbidden Journey...how vomit inducing likely is it? Compared to Spiderman, Simpsons, ect? I REALLY want to try it, but alas, I'm aging and can't take much motion

I've seen several posters talk about feeling a little queasy after they rode FJ so it may not be a good idea for you.

It totally depends on the individual. I've ridden FJ more than 30 times total, including 13 times in a row (could have done more and it closed). No ill effects although there are a couple parts that get to me a bit when you transition from animatronic to film. I know where they are and close my eyes, but they wouldn't keep me from riding it anyway.

Contrast that with my friend, who rode it twice and barfed her guts out after the second time.

I can ride roller coasters forever with no ill effects but cannot handle spinning rides. Most motion simulators don't bother me, although the old Body Wars always queased me.

FJ made me queasy and so did the Simpsons ... I never lost my stomach but it sure made me uncomfortable for awhile afterwards.

I have to take Bonine, it's like Dramamine but does not make me drowsy. It allows me to ride Mission Space, all coasters, Teacups,Spiderman,Mummy... but Simpsons and FJ both pushed my limits on queaziness, I believe it is the duration...I apparently have about a 3 minute limit of motion and then all bets are off. I was ok the 1st time I rode FJ, probably because of the excitement I was more distracted, but the 2nd time, about 2/3 thru I was fighting the *feeling*...grateful when it was done. It is a 4 minute ride and you could have set a clock to my nausea setting in, same with Simpsons and I used to be even worse with Back To The Future. I rode FJ 4 times in all, and the 1st was my best, the others were definitely bordering upchuck. Luckily I had not eaten prior to getting on, if I had, it may have been a different story. I didn't see anyone getting sick tho in the 5 days we were there, so that is encouraging!:thumbsup2

I use the less-drowsy Dramamine. It is the same formulation as bonine. I had to double dose for FJ. Once I made sure to take one the night before as well as in the morning, I was fine.

While in Filch's Emporium I only saw one person come out who wasn't feeling well.

What about those wristbands, do they help?? Last time I took "less-drowsy" dramamine, I slept thru 3/4 of the "road to Hana". LOL! Well, at least I wasn't sick.

Oh no, I think I am in trouble. :scared1: Motion simulators kill me, all except for soaring, and I think it is the wind in your face on that one that helps. Star tours or anything like it kills me in seconds. I have not been @ Universal since Simpsons, but I rode the Mummy when it first opened and was ok, but if it had been one moment longer it would have been a different story!

I'm not a big fan of fast rides will I be able to walk through with my family and see the castle but just not ride the ride? Is there a scardy cats exit?

I also noticed that if you are sitting down, the seat to the far right makes people more nauseaus.. This is from my experience and from talking to friends who have ridden it...

Now that's odd ( in my case anyway) as the first time I rode I was in the far right seat...and was fine...the other 3 times I was 2nd from left and then far left ( while sitting down) and those other times I rode I was pushing it nausea-wise. I did not ride anytime right in a row..4 different days. I take Bonine for motion sickness and did not eat prior to riding any of the days. I guess I am not normal, lol.

I was most nauseous in the second from left. I just think my dramamine hadn't had time to become effectual yet.

I am also very prone to motion sickness. I've tried Bonine -- took one about two hours after waking up in the morning and felt... how shall I put this... like I had smoked something illegal and not shared with anyone else! - and then proceeded to sleep for 5 hours straight -- so, long story short, I can't take Bonine. I know for some people it's great, though. Anyway, about the rides -- Simpsons made me very sick. Spiderman, I LOVE, and it only made me slightly sick (this was also after riding Cat in the Hat, and, for me, it's cumulative). Forbidden Journey was do-able for me (once) and while it definitely gave me the queasies, I felt it was worth it. I'd say a little worse than Spidey, but not as bad as Simpsons. Also, pop a powdered ginger pill the night before then the morning before you go. Doing this I may still feel slightly queasy, but I NEVER throw up. Good luck!

Spiderman doesn't make me queasy at all but Simpsons does if I am in the back row.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that is getting queasier with age. The Simpson's ride made me feel like I felt during my first trimester when we went a couple of years ago :scared1: so I only rode it. But I was ok at Spiderman. The other ride that made me not feel so good was Jimmy Neutron and that ride also gave me a backache, so I was so happy :) when my DDs didn't want to ride it again since my DH couldn't take it either!

Last year when we went to Busch Gardens I also felt queasy after riding a few coasters in a row....so as much as I love thrill rides I have learned to take it easy and not do what I used to do decades ago - riding each thrill ride at least 3x in a row :lmao: Really dislike getting old!:rotfl:

My question has to do with movement of the ride vehicle, not so much the motion of the projections (which essentially does it for a lot of people). I understand the ride vehicle quickly shifts from side to side, and even falls backward at a particular point right before (or was it after?) you come face to the face with the dragon. It's this motion that I am concerned about... I have a hard time with Expedition Everest b/c of the backwards motion, and even noted queasiness on The Mummy for the same reason. Was this a problem for anyone??

You don't travel backwards, so that motion is not similar. That sounds like what your issue is on those other coasters.

I used to love twisty, turny, upside down, loop-de-loop rides, but alas, that's a thing of the past for me as well.

I went on Simpsons last year and definitely felt queasy. I ended up shutting my eyes about 1/2 way through and I was fine, but decided that I wouldn't be able to go on it again unless I was medicated. I was fine w/ Mummy, but dueling dragons had me feeling like I had had a lobotomy. Never made it onto Spiderman last year but fully intend to this year. So between Spiderman and FJ, I think that Bonine is definitely in order.

I haven't really seen this mentioned, but does RRR have a similar effect?
