motion sickness meds? help

Well let me make a comment on MS...Last year I wouldnt ride because I was worried about motion sickness so my wife and son rode it....I wanted to but didnt want to ruin my trip....this year my wife said she didnt care to ride and my son couldnt go on it by his self yet so I sucked it up and rode...I must say it was not bad at all....I think the worst is the anticipation and the build up that gets alot of people woozy...even the actual barf bags in the ride was a little stressful but I had no problems...I was pushing the buttons at my station and helping my son....I was lookiing around no problems....I was fine when I got off too....You do not feel like you are spinning....all you really fell is the G's and them pushing on you....Now I did eat the bananna and take the ginger before hand but not sure if I would have needed it...just my 2 cents

I have been worrying about Mission: Space for weeks. If I ride it and I get sick, I don't want to feel sick for the rest of the day! Or worse, what if DS or DH feels sick for the rest of the day?

How old is your son? Mine is 5yo and loved Mission:Space, even more than Test Track. I didn't worry about the motion sickness with him since he spins himself silly at home and loves the feeling (I was the same way as a child, it's just in recent years that there has been a change in my body that won't allow a lot of spinning). Even when my son feels dizzy he doesn't fell sick.

dolphindan1, my husband almost skipped the ride since he does so poorly with spinning, but I basically shamed him into it. :) I was SO worried that he would end up sick and he would never have let me forget that I'd talked him into riding. Thankfully, he got off the ride and told me that there wasn't spinning and that he really liked it. I also don't know how much of it was the ginger, or how much a placebo, but I sure wasn't going to have him try it without the ginger to find out!

I took Dramamine (the less drowsy one) and I was okay, I take it also before Test Track too....I love the rides but still have to be careful. My doctor also recommended ginger (in any form, including Ginger Ale if you can find it) and it helps calm my nervous stomach a great deal!!! And here's just another way to use Dramamine....(don't laugh) ..... If you have a few too many cocktails at PI, take a Dramamine after and you'll sleep fine and won't feel sick....now please don't get on me about this, I know its not right to do, but it works....

Isn't ginger ale one of the beverages offered at Ice Station Cool? The Morroccan one maybe?

We've never tried motion sickness meds, but DH has a tough time on some rides. I wonder if we should give it a go this time

I am extremely susceptible to motion sickness, have been ever since I was very young. As I've matured (I don't GET older!) I've also developed positional vertigo and a sinus condition that sometimes effects balance/dizziness. At WDW I always take bonine (meclizine is the name of the active ingredient) AND wear sea bands, and still will not chance some rides...BTMRR makes me dizzy but it passes, wouldn't risk simulators or M:S. Tried the scope patch once at WDW, inadvertantly transferred some to my eye (which dilates the pupil for 6-8 hrs), so haven't tried again. HOWEVER, when I had gall bladder surgery, I was very motion sick post-surgery, vomiting uncontrollably before I was totally conscious. Fearing a repeat, when I had surgery this past summer the Dr. had me wear a scope patch and VOILA!! No motion sickness post surgery whatsoever! I am going to try the patch again for the next trip to WDW and see if it works for me.

DS is almost 9. He has a history of getting sick in the car if he looks down while the car is moving. Not sure about spinning. He can ride carousels just fine. This summer we were at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City and we went on this evil thing called the "Cloud Poofer". You start out sitting upright, but it turns you sideways and spins you around - supposed to be like being in a tornado. DS was terrified that he was going to fall out. DH was next to him trying to hang on to him. I was across from them. I was VERY shaky when it stopped. DH tried to help me climb out but I snapped "Don't touch me!" I wasn't exactly dizzy or nauseous, just "off". The ride is in the dark, to top it off. We all 3 hated it, and it was the first ride we went on that day. I did recover as soon as I got back outside, but I would never do it again! That's what makes me think M:S is probably not the ride for me!

I just replied to you on anther thread, too...

When following the instructions and looking straight ahead you really don't feel the spinning on M:S--really feels that you are taking off in a rocket ship. Amazing, but if you don't want to chance it you'll still have agood time. ;) Or do what others have said--ride it at the end of the day so you won't have ruined your whole day. Don't eat fatty foods before, though.

Have fun no matter what you end up doing!

Two of my dear friends are meeting us the day we go to Epcot. They live in Tampa, so it is possible that they have been on this ride before. If one of them doesn't get sick and DS absolutely INSISTS on riding then maybe one of them will take him. DH might want to give it a shot, too. The drawback to doing it late is that we have 6:30 PS at Akershus. I don't want to see or experience buffet in reverse, and I can't imagine anyone else does either! We will also want to see Illuminations that night, so I don't want anyone to feel like they've just been dragged cross country by a train. I guess it will be something we decide when we get there. Or it might be something we hop to late one night just before we go back to the hotel, if we are SURE dinner has already had time to completely digest! :D
