Mother/Daughter Cruise to Tortola, May 23rd, Lots of pics! COMPLETE 7/14

I had been plagued with sleep problems this entire trip. While at WDW I don't think I ever got an uninterrupted sleep and the same on the ship. I just don't sleep well out of my own bed.

I happened to wake around 5:30 and went out onto the verandah and snapped this sunrise shot.

I then went back to sleep again and was able to sleep until about 8:30.

Mom went to get something from Topsiders for us to eat for breakfast and I sat out on the verandah taking in the beautiful morning at sea.

Mom came back with a chocolate croissant and a banana for me and a fruit bowl for herself.

I elected to just hang out on the verandah while Mom went exploring around the ship. I didn't feel like getting dressed to go out as we had a 10:30 Palo brunch scheduled.

So I just sat out on the verandah writing in my trip notes and reading my book.

Eventually I went and got dressed for brunch.

There was a special adults only Behind the Scenes Presentation in the Buena Vista Theatre for the new Pixar movie UP. Dave Mullins, one of the directing animators was onboard. He would be giving two talks that week about the movie and also presenting the movie to us on Thursday night when it premiered onboard. Mom and I knew that we would not be able to see the whole thing but we went for the first little bit. We sat at the back so that we could exit unnoticed. Unfortunately all we really got to see was the movie trailer before we had to leave.

We headed on upstairs to Palo to check-in. We were a few minutes early so we took some pictures.

The bathroom was empty so I took a picture of that too. :rotfl: It smelled so nice in there, like oranges!

We were the first to be seated. The hostess escorted us to our table and offered us our complimentary champagne. Mom had the pomegranate champagne and I had the regular offering. Both were very tasty! I had never had champagne before, I am a fan! I wish I had ordered the pomegranate as well but mine was good too. Next time!

The napkins were folded like tuxedo jackets!

Our waiter soon arrived and escorted us around the buffet explaining what everything was and making suggestions.

Mom's first plate

My first plate

You can always tell which plate is mine and which is Mom's. She goes for the seafood and I go for the carbs! Breads, cheeses, pastries, berries, YUM!

So on my plate going clockwise you will see:

  • Stollen bread with whipped cream and berries. This was very good, we found out the next day that you can actually get the stollen bread at Goofy's Galley for breakfast.
  • Cheese danish
  • Cinammon Roll
  • Chocolate croissant
  • Sesame Roll that I ate with Brie
  • Some sort of sweet roll I can't tell what it is though
  • Port Wine Cheddar Cheese - SO GOOD!
  • Not pictured - I also tried the Blue Cheese Walnut Bread, TO DIE FOR!!!!!

This is what Mom ordered from the kitchen

I ordered a pizza, half pepperoni and half Blue Cheese and Grape. I wasn't sure how I would like the Blue Cheese and Grape pizza but it was actually pretty tasty, unusual but tasty! The pepperoni half was obviously delicious as well.

After we were done with that we went and got a few of our favourites from the buffet.

Mom's plate

I didn't take a picture of mine but I remember I had seconds of the Blue Cheese Walnut Bread, the Port Wine Cheddar and some Brie. I like my cheeses!

I was pretty much stuffed by now but I couldn't leave without at least sampling some of the desserts!

Mom opted out from having desserts. Pictured on my plate is tiramisu and chocolate. Both were very good although I did not eat them all.

The service here was excellent, our waiter was stopping by constantly to fill up our water glasses, check how everything was, etc.

Needless to say we were very impressed with our brunch and we will definitely be back!

Our waiter brought our cheque over to be signed, we left him a nice tip and then they pretty much had to roll us out of there we were so full. This was by far the best meal I had out of the whole two week trip and I had some pretty good meals!

Leesa,

There is a picture from the Palo brunch that looks like a small metal thing with spoons on it somehow?? What is that?

Mmmmm, we are having Palo brunch in September - can't wait!!!:cool1:

I just informed DH that we are doing the Palo brunch at the next opportunity. I didn't even ask, I just let him know.:rotfl:

After Palo we made our way back to the stateroom happy and full. What a wonderful brunch, so delicious!

Mom got dressed for the pool and headed on up to deck 10. I told her I would meet her up there in a bit. I was so full and I was sleepy from my not so restful sleep the night before. I threw myself on the bed and took a quick 20 minute power nap. It was lovely and just what I needed. I could have slept for hours but I did not want to waste that beautiful day at sea so I threw on my bathing suit and headed on up to the pool.

The pool water that afternoon was cold! The day before it had been nice and warm. I found it ironic as you would think that the day it had rained the water would be cold and the hot sunny day it would be warm. Guess not!?

So instead of hanging in the pool I went to relax in the empty hot tub. I was soon joined by my hot tub buddies from the day before. What a coincidence! I couldn't stay in the hot tub long as I was feeling overheated so back into the chilly pool I went.

We spent the whole afternoon up on deck sunning ourselves and relaxing in the pool, it was very nice. I was so relaxed that I didn't take a single picture that entire afternoon.

We eventually decided to head back to the room. We stopped to fill up our mugs and to get some ice cream, yum!

Back in the room we watched some of Ghost Town while getting ready for the night.

Tonight's show was Twice Charmed but first I wanted to get some character photos in the lobby.

First up were Goofy and Max. They had the white background up for this picture. The Shutter photos turned out great, the one Mom took not so much as I guess she didn't realize that she should centre the photo so that only the white background was showing. lol I wasn't going to pay $20 for a copy of the Shutters photo though.

Next up was Princess Minnie

We saw Wendy wandering around the lobby while waiting in line for Belle

After the picture with Belle we ran into Wendy again so I had to get a photo!

Character photos done for the night we had a bit of time to kill before the show so we wandered around and checked out the gift shops again.

The nights show was Twice Charmed, another great show! Disney sure knows how to entertain you!

Again I took a bazillion pictures (no flash) so here are just a few.

I really enjoyed the show but I was soooo uncomfortable the whole time. It turned out that the seat in front of me was obviously broken as it reclined so far back that my legs were pretty much squished even when I slanted them to the side. Even with a child sitting in the seat it would have been bad but a very large man sat in it, just my luck! I couldn't move! I would have gotten up to get another seat but they were all filled as the show was about to start. I was stuck and just had to suffer through it. I suppose I could have tapped the guy on the shoulder and asked him to please not lean back so much but I didn't want to offend him!

Coming up: Dinner at Animator's Palate and then our first port of call: Tortola!

I'm lovin' your trip report! The pictures and larger color printing make it so easy to read. We are going on the July 18 cruise on the Magic-so I'm waiting to hear how both ports are and if you have any special tips on what to do for each. We're getting excited now!

I think it is actually salmon mousse in table spoons. Very tasty. I think you can read the sign in the photo.

Ah thanks, I knew somebody out there would know! I completely avoid the seafood table, can't stomach it, so I was completely clueless!
