Mother, Daughter and Sausage Dining Review! Final Meal - Complete 9/27!!

The Turkey Leg is a good late night snack! Had one myself in DL when nothing else was open! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the info on the buses! It's a relief you didn't have any issues!

Andrew really wanted a turkey leg this trip and we just never got around to it. It wasn't that I wouldn't get him one, we just didn't end up getting one. I admit that I like one or two bites. I don't eat dark meat as a rule but the smokiness is pretty good.

Glad you arrived home safe & sound! (As did we!) Now the Disney withdrawal blues start to set it!

Wonderful start!! Excited to hear all about the trip!

DS and I got stranded in an Epcot gift shop during a downpour, during which time he fell in love with the shirt that simply says Turkey Leg and has a picture of a turkey leg on it! It is totally his style (i.e., obnoxious -- not that he's a turkey! Though yeah, he actually is sometimes :rotfl2:) and I would have bought it for him except that he's never had one! I know he had one or two opportunities to get one during that trip but the timing was never quite right. So I didn't feel right to have him proclaiming love for a food item he's never eaten. I'm quite sure, especially after reading Eilee's reaction, that he would love gnawing on one.

I am such a bad Mother since Daniel, too, wanted to "nom on a turkey leg" and I wouldn't get him one :guilty: I know there are those who rave about them but I don't understand the fascination, I'm afraid. It's all a bit too 'Fred Flintstone' for me (yes, I am aware of the irony in that statement) ;)

Turkey legs kind of creep me out actually! But I didn't want to say anything that might make her not want to eat it because she hadn't eaten a whole lot that day (other than MY Olivia's potatoes :rotfl2:). So I kept my mouth shut and let her nom!

Those potatoes. wow! I am also drooling at the gelato. Glad you made it home safe, Tracy!

I thought it was odd that they would have a gelato stateion at CSR but Eilee was quite happy! Also, I tasted it and it was great!

I haven't ever tried a turkey leg (dark meat isn't my favorite, and they just look so messy to eat), but it doesn't surprise me to hear that it tasted good. I'm glad that Eilee enjoyed it! :goodvibes

I like chicken legs but that enormous turkey leg scared me! :scared1: But she can like anything she wants I guess. My dad loves them as well so perhaps I'm the odd man out here?;)

Now DD has just added turkey leg to her wish list ;)

Tell her that Eilee gives it a thumbs up! I think that it'll be almost as tall as Natasha!

I feel a little bad that I made her throw out that last bit of turkey leg after she didn't end up getting another because she enjoyed it so much.:guilty: But we had lots more food to make up for it!

Yep, it's not that I wouldn't have gotten Eilee another turkey leg, we just didn't get around to it. I'm also glad to hear that you are home safe and sound as well. I sure wish I had another trip planned to try all of the things I wanted to try but didn't have time for!

Wonderful start!! Excited to hear all about the trip!

Welcome and thanks for joining in!

I saw the turkey leg shirts and pointed it out to Eilee!! Unforunately the only color that we could find was brown and she wouldn't wear that. There were several food related shirts that I thought were cute but when given the choice she chose a UK shirt (which looks very nice on her!). You'll have to make DS try a turkey leg the next time you are there! Start planning! :rotfl2:

I love those turkey legs! I haven't had one in the last few trips but I'm going to have to get one next time!

It turns out that I'm home alone today.:cool1: I had to work yesterday on the holiday so I get to be off of work today which means that Vince is at work and it's Eilee's first day of school! So I figured that it was a good time to post another update, especially because Vince will be going on a hunting vacation for a week and a half and he's taking the laptop!

So...day 2 was the day of Eilee's YES class at Animal Kingdom. My big mistake was that I just went to bed the night before assuming Eilee would also go to bed at a decent hour. Nope. Around 2 am I woke up to find her texting her friends and I told her to finish up and get to bed now. I *think* she did but probably not. So I woke early, showered and went to Cafe Rix for some breakfast. I chose two strudel type pastries and some juice. I got one that looked like strawberry cream cheese and one apple and I figured Eilee could choose whichever one she wanted.

I went to wake her up and she was such a crab apple!!! She whined and complained about how it was unfair that she had to go to this class. I finally told her to stop talking because it wasn't going to change things. Take the class and suck it up because this whole vacation was possible because of this class and the cheap park hoppers that it provides! :rotfl2: Note to self...take away her phone at bedtime from now on.

She chose the berry cream cheese strudel and ate it between her complaints. I ate the apple strudel and it was surprisingly good! Very fresh and it had a flaky quality about it while also being chewy with good apple flavor. I believe Eilee liked hers because she ate the entire thing. And off we went to Animal Kingdom!

Eilee met up with her group and because she is 13, I didn't have to attend the class with her and I was on my own for three hours. My "trip goals" included the following:

To make rope drop at least once
Try three different cupcakes
Ride the same ride 3 times in one day
Search for the paint brush on Tom Sawyer Island
To get three stealth photos of the sausage with characters
Eat a snack we’ve never tried
Get stuck on one ride (last time we got stuck on 4 different rides!)

So I was able to tick off the ride the same ride 3 times in one day as I was on the first ride of the day for Expedition Everest and I just turned around and got on several times in a row! I also grabbed a fast pass for both of us to use after her class. I walked around for a while and then I found a lovely shady bench in a perfect spot where I could stalk Flame Tree until it opened! I remember texting jabead from here as well. :) I knew Eilee would not be hungry at this time due to her meds so I decided to eat on my own so she wouldn't have to sit there while I ate.

As soon as it opened I ordered a Coke and the pork sandwich which came with cole slaw.

I got my tray and went to sit down under one of the covered areas which also had condiments and several types of barbeque sauces. The sandwich comes without sauce but you can see that I added some. I was all set to order the barbeque chicken salad when I saw this go by on a tray and it looked really good. I'm so glad that I changed my order because the pork was tender and juicy and I loved it. I thought the cole slaw was just meh. Not bad but not my favorite. Here is a photo of the seating area which was pretty empty right at 11 am.

I picked up Eilee at 11:30 and we jumped right on Expedition Everest with our fast passes (right after she guzzled down an entire glass of Coke within about 2 minutes)! I also have to say that I saw goofysonsmom when we were on our way out and she was heading towards Yak & Yeti! But I wasn't completely positive because I hadn't met her yet at that point and didn't want to seem like a creeper by stopping her!

A little nap does wonders for a cranky teen and I'm happy to report that we did not have another crab apple moment for the rest of the trip! After a nap for both of us we headed to Epcot for our reservations at Rose & Crown!

Ah the turkey leg...or as we call it the Ham Bone!

After a nap we got ready and decided to go to Epcot for a little while before our ADR at Rose & Crown. I'd told Eilee that they had pot roast at R&C and she was very excited for that. She is a roast fanatic. Here is the menu

As you can see...no pot roast!! I was bracing for a freak out but she said, "I'm not super hungry anyway. Do you want to split the Cottage Pie?" Whew!! So once again we split our entree.

I'd had a Shepherd's Pie at Three Broomsticks at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter during a previous trip and it had a heavy rosemary taste (and I don't particularly like rosemary). I was a little bit worried that this might have rosemary but it didn't. We really enjoyed this Cottage Pie. It had a tasty ground beef filling (which Eilee usually doesn't like but I didn't say a word as she happily ate it), vegetables and soft fresh mashed potatoes. Definitely a thumbs up from us!

Because we split our entree we absolutely had room for a dessert.

I think we both should have gotten a dessert but we split the Sticky Toffee Pudding

Eilee declared this dessert amazing as she practically licked the bowl clean! She said that it made up for the lack of pot roast. I too would highly recommend this dessert. The soft but dense cake had a warm caramelly sauce and underneath was a fantastic custard. It all went together so well! Now that I'm sitting here at home, I can't believe that we didn't order two of those or at least one more dessert. Doh! :confused3:

Up next MK morning and Les Chefs de France lunch...and a DISmeet!

Your review has me really missing Rose & Crown. We haven't eaten there in almost 7 years, but now I feel it's time to change that. :thumbsup2

I love the pictures of Eilee with the turkey leg! It really does take a pretty girl to look that good while gnawing on one of those things. :lmao: So tell Eilee for me that she pulled it off quite well! :thumbsup2

ETA: Just read your R & C review and that Cottage Pie looks and sounds very good. I've always gotten the Fish & Chips there, but next time I just might try the Cottage Pie. ;)

Your Pork sandwich looks good! Do you get a choice on the sides or is it always cole slaw?

R&C also looks good! I love that you shared so many dishes! I think hubby and I might end up sharing a bunch so we can eat at more places lol!

I have never had stickey toffee pudding. I should put that on my "to-do" list for this fall.

Also, I should remember not to read DRs while hungry.

I think I've made and cancelled ADRs for Rose & Crown about 20 times! I really need to try it!

Are you a fan of the ham bone? It's just so darn big! I think I might like it better if it was a little smaller!

Semi fan...I like the first bite or two of meat but then the thick white cartilage comes into play and I am nauseated by it.

So glad we have R&C booked for Oct, never been and am really looking forward to it

I really wish we could have each had an entree and a dessert there because I enjoyed what we did have. The main reason I chose it was because of the pot roast so I'm glad that we both ended up loving it.

I will let her know that she was able to pull of the nomming of the turkey leg! :rotfl2:

And I was crossing my fingers that Eilee would like the Cottage Pie because I knew it was ground beef. Perhaps she's growing up a bit now and she's expanding her horizons!! LOL!

I think you always get the cole slaw but perhaps you can substitute?

We had a great time sharing dishes. A few times I wish I could have had my own dish but at leat it always ensured that we would have room for dessert which is always a priority!

If you see anything on the menu that catches your eye I would give it a shot! I forgot to mention that our service there was great as well.

Mmmm...sticky toffee pudding would be a wonderful fall dessert! Ok, it's good anytime really! :rotfl: I wish it came with more of that custard...I wonder if you can ask for an extra little helping of that?

Mmmm I'm a big fan of Flame Tree BBQ - especially the pork sandwich. I like the spicier sauce of two that they offer.

Looks like Eilee found her happy place with that turkey leg!!! :rotfl2: Such a great photo of her gnawing on it.
