Help! I'm in the initial "wouldn't it be nice" planning stage to take some family members to WDW. We have one family of 6 with a baby on the way. Thinking of 2019 so I have some time to plan. At that time there will be 4 Disney Adults (2 kids over 10+parents) 2 Disney kids and the infant.

I've never had to plan for a family that size. Can they fit into rooms for "6" since the 7th is an infant? Just looking at options for WDW resort that wouldn't break the bank for that big of a family. So those of you who have experience with a family this size, let me know your thoughts! TIA

We like some room to spread out when we take our larger family. We have booked three rooms at AKL and three rooms at POR FQ, there was 6 adults and 3 kids.

POR FQ would be much cheaper than AKL but sometimes you can find a good discount for the non-savanna view rooms. We booked a pool view and it was lovely.

Sounds like you guys could book two rooms.

if you would plan the 2 rooms remember that connected rooms are a request not a sure thing. are you will to split up with an adult in each room with some of kids. as someone else said the cabins would sleep your group but only one bathroom

It would help to know your budget. Others have chimed in with good advice! Yes, a cabin could do, but one bathroom would not be ideal to me.
A 2 bedroom villa (DVC) would be very nice; kitchen for breakfast and snacks (when my kids were little that was nice, plus we had food allergies to deal with), plus the washer/dryer is nice to toss in daily the clothes worn, making it easier to pack only a few days’ worth of clothing.
There are off site options much cheaper, of course, but also wonder are you flying?
I’ve done both; prefer on site but only have 2 kids and most often go solo with one or both of them.

On Disney property, the price escalates tremendously for large families needing space.

You can also camp at Fort Wilderness. You can also camp in luxury as several companies will rent large campers and set them up for you.

If you find Disney prices too much to stomach, there are many, many offsite options around Disney that have far more affordable prices for families.

Price out any of the 2 BR as a DVC rental -they usually sleep 9 total- such as Davids DVC. A DVC rental will be cheaper than a direct 2BR from disney. It will give you plenty of space and some have 3 bathrooms, full kitchen and laundry, which might be a necessity with a large family. It is tough when you reach the 6-7 person mark because really only the larger villa/suites will accommodate your party.

Off site is another option which people do report getting large condos for cheap BUT then you have to rent a car, pay for parking and you don't get the early FP window. Going through disney has great benefits - magical express from the airport, never having to drive anywhere, easy afternoon breaks from the parks, 60 day FP window. But again sometimes the savings of off site can't be beat.

Thanks for the comments. Since the oldest child will only be 12 and there will be a baby, one room/suite would be best. Especially since connecting rooms aren't a sure thing. So Cabin at Ft. Wilderness, or maybe DVC rental might work. I'm also looking at SoG since we are eligible. I think it may be our best bet for cost and size. I just want to look at all options.

Generally, family suites or two units at a value will be cheaper than a DVC 2BR on points. It is worth noting that a DVC rental is a final transaction and cannot be changed or cancelled, which can be a concern; insurance on point rental adds to the cost.

SOG is awesome, much more space, but very hard to reserve. Cabin would be nice, but might be a hassle because of the internal bus then having to transfer to another bus or a boat. (But lots of cool things for the kids to do) AoA suite might be their best bet. But cheaper would be ASM suite
