Most Overrated things people rave about at WDW

The Parks.

????????

For me:
Most of Epcot, It feels like I'm in a horticultural save the planet class in future world or I'm waiting in line to view some country's come visit me propagana movie. I do like TT, Soarin and Nemo
Illuminations
Dole Whip, its just ok - totally over rated- I much rather split a banna split with the Fam at the plaza
Space Mountain - its tired and has nothing on RRC or Everest
Big thunder Mt - Every other coster including barnstormer is better than this. Please get rid of it. It takes up way too much real estate for what it is.

-D-Tech Merch (Way overpriced)
-Parades (I know they're a theme park staple)

OK:
Dole Whip
While EPCOT is still my second favorite park, I hate the way it's going down hill. I so hope it gets a make over soon.
Beirgarten dinner
BOG lunch (loved the dinner)
Mickey ice cream thingy
Turkey Leg
Cosmic Ray's

People Mover - It's a nice way to relax for a bit but there is really nothing to it.
Christmas Party - It was nice but for me it is a one and done event.
Fireworks - I like them but they are not a must do. Love the night parades though.

Then why do you go?

I'm really confused by this response??? Do you really find the parks, overall, are overrated? Why would you ever spend the money to go, then?

So I must ask, what do you like about Walt Disney World if you hate the Parks? Not being snarky, I just really do want to know.

I do find the parks overrated. We do resort/DS only vacations because, after so many vacations, the parks are stale. Very little has changed since we became die hards back in 1999. There is no way I will pay $100+ to go into a park to do the same thing I have done over and over and over again.

However, we love the “bubble” of WDW…so we stay at a WDW resort, use those amenities. We use the amenities at other resorts, and we enjoy DS/Boardwalk...bowling, boat rides, mini golf, swimming, dining, people watching, bars, child care, etc. It's a cheap vacation - resort and meals and some spending cash (we don't do souvenirs). We typically have free airline miles...so, it's easy for us to get away almost spur of the moment because the price is reasonable.

When the parks start getting their makeovers done…looking at you, AK and HS, we will spend the money once again. But, Epcot has been the same forever and Magic Kingdom…meh.

I will admit, we do love AK and if it was not ridiculous to get in, we would probably do a 1 day there in June.

My BFF is planning her first trip to WDW and looked to me for help and I said “I cannot recommend the parks…sorry, you are on your own”. Witchy, yep. But, it’s how I feel.

I do LIKE the Dole Whip.

But for me, in the overrated category. I'd put
1. Disney Hollywood studios= not enough attractions right now
2. Having to stay on disney property- some of the off site places are just as close sometimes and a lot cheaper
3. Extra magic hours- after they're over, you have a mobbed park.
4. Tiki Room- the new or old show that is there now is just awful. I liked it better when it had Gilbert and some comedy in it.
5. park hopping- in Ca it is easy but by the time you get to a 2nd park, it is crowded. So I find it easier to do one park per day.

Repetative gift shops

I can honestly say this was my biggest qualm with our last trip. I was getting sick and tired of seeing the same things honestly.

Otherwise, I honestly don't overly dislike anything, except for the money-grabbing traps (I am looking at you Disney After Hours) and price-raising they've been introducing lately. I know eventually things need to go up, but honestly the rate at which they seem to be increasing is ridiculous.

I do kind of agree with PPs that talked about GF. If I had the money to stay at a Deluxe Resort, GF would not be my first choice. Its nice and all, but I would rather stay at Poly. Its my dream lol.

1. fried won tons at Yak & Yeti
2. club level
3. dessert parties
4. decorated cupcakes
5. Polynesian

Mine are:

Peter Pan's Flight - long wait for such a short ride
Mickey Bars - meh
Cupcakes - OK, there are a few gems, but most of them are just like boxed cake mixes they cooked up?
Any of the parades with exception of Main Street Electrical Parade

In no particular order:
Test Track - I do not get it and I think it's even worse after the refurb. I don't want to spend forever designing a car. And even if I do the single rider line, the ride is so meh. What on earth is the big deal about driving 60mph for a couple of seconds?

TRUTH. I can Drive 65 in my own car without having to wait in line

Illuminations
Dole Whips
Turkey legs
Halloween party

"free" dining, the kiss goodnight, wilderness lodge lobby, school bread in Norway at Epcot, and zebra domes at AKL make my list.

Dole Whip (tastes like melted plastic)
Churros (the ones sold at Costco are a fraction of the price and much tastier)
Illuminations
Chef Mickey's
Space Mountain WDW (DL's is superior in every way)

There are a few things I'm just blah about these days...but I think we've been to WDW so many times that certain events, attractions, dining, etc. just naturally wear off over time. If I had to pick one thing, however, it would be Disney Transportation. Love Magical Express, but that's it. Once we get to BWV, we rent a car at Dolphin and never ever look at a Disney bus.
