Okay, I am a newbie to this forum, but wow this stuff is great. You are all very helpfull (thank you). I need to know what I should take along that I may have not even thought of. This is the first time we have even gone over to the States - let alone Florida. I hear it is hot. How hot is hot DD Aug27-Sept 09.
Are there any secrets out there that may help make this trip a little less hectic than what I am anticipating? Oh and by the way have any of you gone on the Mission Space ride and how safe is it? I heard that a 4 year old died a month or so ago. My youngest is 10.
I am so excited but not excited about the drive. Oh well I have done the East Coast with all the kids so they know what to expect.

ONLY 6 MORE SLEEPS>>>>>>

Welcome to our world :flower:

Your trip will be hot so don't forget the sunscreen.

The most important advice I can give is to relax and realize it is impossible to see and do everything in one trip. Have fun doing what you can.

My family has rode Mission Space many times. Yes it is safe.

Have a great time :cool1: :cool1:

Don't forget sunhats for everyone, very comfortable walking shoes and an extra pair in case yours get wet on a ride or in a thundershower. Rain Ponchos for the showers. Have a super time !

Welcome to the DIS.

It will be hot when you are there and it will usually rain for a bit each afternoon -- don't leave the park just put on a rain poncho. It usually doesn't rain for that long -- maybe 10-15 min. You can get cheap ponchos at the dollar store before you go and then just pack them into the park in a backpack.

Since it is hot remember to take water. Since you're driving I would suggest taking a case of water with you. Comfortable shoes are also important as is sun screen.

I'll echo Hockey mom -- you can't see everything so just relax and see what you can comfortably. If you don't see everything you can just plan another trip and spend more time on the DIS!

We've done the drive many times and it's ok esp. if you think of it as part of the trip. Remember to take ID for everyone going because you'll have to show it at the border.

Mission Space - it's a safe ride with a really different sensation. I like it but my SO doesn't really but haven't had any problems.

Have a great trip.

If yes, we can't stress enough the importance of packing your essentials in a carry on bag...ie, meds, swimsuit, change of clothes, electronics, and obviously, your tickets, passports and money.

You just never know if your luggage is going to make it with you:)
And if it doesn't, don't worry, you can buy anything you need there:)

Have fun!!

:sunny:

Just bring lots of money, cuz you are probably going to want to buy everything you see.......... :rotfl2:

Frankly, all you need is money, it may not buy you love, but at Disney it buys alot of mickey bars.

Have fun!!!

I see you are driving, we enjoyed the drive last year and look forward to it this year. Might I suggest the book Along I75 if you a traveling this route, it's a Godsend. Not only a map but very valuable info especially if you have never driven to Florida before...ie what hotel is at each exit, which lane to be in changes in speed limits and radar areas. Good Luck and have fun. Pack snacks for the parks and have lots to entertain the kids in the car for the ride down. Bring out one thing at a time. TTFN :flower: Kat

Take along a couple of washcloths in a ziplock bag. You can wipe your face and neck with them when it gets too hot! Also if you can find one a fan/water bottle is a great thing to cool off with. You can buy them at the parks but they are quite expensive there. Failing that try a small spritz bottle to cool the kids off while standing in line. Have a great trip.

- Dollar store rain ponchos
- moleskin or blister block bandaids
- water bottles - I bought Brita bottles at Shoppers!
- large ziplocs to take to the parks - when your clothes get wet (which they may) replace them with a quick change and put the wet ones in the ziplocs
- and yes...money!!
Oh what you'll have!! all the best!!

And have a Mickey bar! We had one every day! Aaaaaaaaah!

:goodvibes

Everything listed above by everyone else and don't forget "broken in" running shoes and another pair of shoe. Change/rotate shoes each day and let the day-before ones "dry out" each day. Always take an extra pair of dry socks into the parks, if your feet stay dry it reduces the chances of get blisters.

Baby Powder, talc or a good antiperspirant will serve you well! It gets very humid at that time of year.

I'll echo the extra pair of shoes. My first trip as an adult, I had to take a day off from the parks and go buy more shoes since my feet were killing me! Now I always bring at least 3 different pairs to rotate.

love this thread too!! going to watch it close!!

I have a questions about rain ponchos. We got some at the CAA (the ones that are really nothing more than very thin garbage bags with a hole cut in it for your head.) I wasn't impressed by them except that they were large enough that I could at least sit on it instead of the wet seat on the parking trolly thingy. They also fold up soooooo small. But..kinda flimsy.

The ones at dollar stores or Walmart...are they the same kind or are they actually made of something more than 1mm plastic??

What kind do you guys use?

For the drive...DVD player (portible if necessary) with lots of Disney movies.

At the park...don't wear new shoes...and we use an antiperspirant on the feet, first thing in the morning...kinda feels funny, but works well...
...take cheap ponchos... (pxlbarrel)...not sure about the CAA ones, but I'd suggest bring enough of the cheap ones for each family member each day and if you use it, just throw it in the recylcle bin and bring more the next day (they are a pain to fold up properly)...they are easy to throw into a back pack with your other gear and are very light...
...speaking of back packs, we found that we took one decent size pack to the park and took turns lugging it around...put ponchos, cameras, autograph books and pens, snacks, tickets, maps, etc. into it....also, bring a large ziploc bag or two with you if you have a camera or video camera...when you go on a wet ride (ie. Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain), you can keep your camera dry...shoes too.

- Sunscreen
- Aloe or other sunburn treatment
- Extra batteries/film/memory cards for your camera or your battery charger
- Mini fans or mister fans (they're a lot more expensive in the parks)
- Tylenol/Asprin
- Cold medication, just in case ;)
- Eye glass repair kit
- Anti-bacterial hand lotion for the finger ID at the gate
- ID lanyard, makes it easy to hold your tickets and FPs

And remember to photocopy your park tickets in case you lose them :)

-Sneaker, good sandles - feet get really hot in sneakers. Make sure you break in any new shoes really well. Change your shoes from day to day. You will walk more than you ever thought possible and you won't realize it but your feet will.
- Moleskin was a life saver. Actually got blister between my toes from all the walking. Good socks.
- Hats for everyone - no matter how much they complain :)
-Sun glasses or clips if you wear glasses.
-Sunscreen - get the stuff with zinc - it goes on a little white but if you have a tendancy to burn it works really well and does not come off in water like a lot of lotions. Take enough for three or four applications a day for everyone.
-medicated aftersun lotion - those with aloe, lidocaine and menthol work really well if you do get a burn - really cools the skin off - not something you can find easily at WDW or the resorts and if you need it - you will be glad you packed it.
-baby wipes - good for sticky hands and if you get sweaty - you can get little packs at the dollar stores.
-comfortable clothes and undergarments :)
-if you plan on swimming a lot - take a really good cleansing shampoo to get the clorine out - hairs gets string if you don't.
-rain ponchos - the dollar ones - bring a few for everyone.
-two bathing suites - that way you always have a dry one. DD10 hates wet bathing suites.
-A smile - you will have a wonderful time

Don't forget out of the country medical insurance. We just found out how important it is on our trip this month. Also, take a copy of hotel reservations just in case the hotel has a different rate etc. on their computer. Also found this one out. At the US border (Thousand Islands) the agent on duty asked about our reservation.

Have a great time planning.

Adding in here.... baby wipes.... I don't have a baby anymore but got the huggies disposable take along pack and I was so glad to have it after my then 5yo ate a Mickey bar.... chocolate, ice cream and hot sun = mess!

I also echo comfy shoes.... you will do more walking then you could ever imagine. And break them in before you go!
