My fiance and I are planning our first WDW trip for next summer. My friend might be able to join us at one of the parks. Which WDW theme park do you think would be most accessible for all of us to explore together? She uses a power wheelchair and unable to transfer. I use a manual wheelchair and can transfer easily (with the help of my fiance). Which park has the most rides / attractions/ shows that wouldn't require a transfer? Also, which attractions do you think would accomodate 2 wheelchairs and 1 standard seat or 1wheelchair and 2 standard seats (in the same vehicle)??
Thanks so much for your help!

A lot depends on what you are looking for.
Do you want mostly shows, or rides too?

What are your interests?

There are a couple of links in the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the thread list for this board that should help. They include a website that has a lot of accessibility info for wheelchair users and several past threads where people with power wheelchairs have posted experiences. Look especially at eternaldisneyfan's trip report. She and her sister both use power wheelchairs (plus her trip report is lots of fun to read).
Here's some other information.

MK has the most things that require a transfer.
Here's a list of attractions where you can stay in a wheelchair. I put an R in front of the ones that are rides, the rest are movies or shows. Some of the rides have ride cars that only hold 2-4 people in the non-wheelchair accessible car.:
  • Country Bear Jamboree
R- Jungle Cruise (boat with lift that can accomodate one wheelchair, many others can transfer and ride)
    R- Liberty Square Riverboat
    Mickey's PhilharMagic
"The Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management"
    The Hall of Presidents
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress (seasonal, so it's not open all the time)
R- Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin - one wheelchair car with space for one wheelchair plus one seat.
R- "it's a small world" - wheelchair boat with space for 2 wheelchairs, plus 4-6 seats
Stitch's Great Escape!™ - sort of a show with special effects. I know there is at least one wheelchair spot.
R- The Magic Carpets of Aladdin - one wheelchair carpet with space for one wheelchair plus one seat. some power wheelchairs will not fit.
R- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh - same as Aladdin
R- Tom Sawyer Island Rafts - not sure if power wheelchairs can go on the raft. The island it takes you to is not really accessible, so I would skip.
    R- Walt Disney World Railroad

Epcot has a lot to see if you are going around World Showcase and that area is very accessible. Canada, France and China have movies that would be very accessible. America has the American Adventure (an Audio-Animatronic-multi media presentation), also fully accessible. The only rides in World Showcase are the Norway ride (wheelchair users must transfer) and Mexico (a boat where one or two wheelchairs can be loaded onto the boat, with room for 6 other guests to sit). There are also performers in the different countries during the day at various times - ranging from acrobats in China to drummers in Japan to a bagpipe rock band in the UK.
The Future World part is less accessible. Here's a list of attractions where someone can stay in their wheelchair:
  • Imagination: "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" (3D movie)
R- Imagination: Journey Into Your Imagination with Figment (ride with a wheelchair car where one wheelchair can fit - some power wheelchairs are too large)
Innoventions East & West (displays and interactive exhibits about technology)
The Land: The Circle of Life (movie)
R- The Land: Living with the Land ( a boat that hold one wheelchair, plus other guests)
The Seas with Nemo & Friends: All Attractions, including a ride with a wheelchair car where one wheelchair can fit - some power wheelchairs are too large
Universe of Energy: "Ellen's Energy Adventure" - sort of a theater ride. There is room for a wheelchair on the rear of the 'theater ride car'. The space may be too small for some power wheelchairs.
Mission Space is not accessible, but there is an exhibit area at the exit that includes some games that are kind of fun and those are accessible.

MGM Studio
The only things that are not wheelchair accessible and require a transfer are Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Star Tours and "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™".
If it is not busy, you may be able to get a non-motion showing of Star Tours ride where they play the movie, but do not turn on the simulator to make the theater move.
The Great Movie Ride has space for one wheelchair and there is a bench seat in that row that will hold around 6 people. Someone with a long power wheelchair may not fit.
The Backstage Tour (ride) has a tram with space for one wheelchair (I think only one) and space for at least 4 to sit in the same area, plus many other rows in that tram.

Animal Kingdom
Is very accessible although some people find it hard going because the pathways are 'themed' to be rough - tile or mud theming.
the only things that require a transfer are DINOSAUR, Expedition Everest, Primeval Whirl and Kali River Rapids.
Kilimanjaro Safaris has a tram similar to the one for the Backstage Tour at the Studio.
TriceraTop Spin is a spinning ride similar to Aladdin at MK.

Thanks for the reference, Sue. :)

Just wanted to say that Stitch in MK isn't accessible to electric wheelchairs because the bar can't reach due to the battery box and general thicker back

And the Backstage/Backlot Tour holds two electric wheelchairs (flip up the seat). That was one ride we all got to go on together (Mom transferred).

Personally, I liked MGM the best.
