Is it just me, or does it seem that there are more posts/questions from people who clearly have been to WDW and their questions are rooted in checking about the differences? Like how park hoppers work, refillable mugs, transportation, dining reservations...

Disney in CA is becoming more and more like a resort rather than a local park. It will start attracting more people from further regions as a result.
With the Cars Land addition, Disney started advertising DL in demographics further east than ever before.
If they could manage to fit a third gate down there, I'm thinking international numbers will start pulling in like crazy. They would need a lot more hotel capacity though.

More posts than usual on this forum, or most than on other Disney forums? If the latter, that would be because this forum is:

  • part of the DIS - the best WDW forum on the web
  • by default (IMO) the best forum for WDW vets interested in DLR
  • the best for non-locals - outside SoCal
  • the most friendly DLR forum on the web

Very good point!

Count me in as a WDW lurker. :thumbsup2 We had originally planned to go to DLR for the first time this summer, but we decided to wait since we didn't know when the DCA construction would be done. We are now planning summer 2014, so I am reading as much as possible to try to figure out how to plan our trip. We are just back from WDW, and I feel the need to always be planning some kind of Disney trip. :rotfl2:

Thanks already to all of Hydroguy's threads and to everyone answering the questions I haven't thought to ask yet! :goodvibes

As one of the aforementioned WDW vets planning a DLR trip...I'm in complete agreement with this. :)

It was the same way around the 50th anniversary too. Carsland is attracting many WDW Vets to come to Disneyland. So of course they will have questions regarding the differences between WDW & DL.

In addition to the Carsland/DCA expansion I think another factor that has more WDWers visiting DLR is the opening of Aulani in Hawaii. Most of the Aulani trip reports include a stop over in DLR.

Sure seems to be .... I don't mind helping out the WDW regulars ... If I'm the first one to respond, I usually just point them to Hydroguy's thread :thumbsup2

For this reason alone it may be a good idea to have HydroGuy's WDW Vet's thread a sticky of its own. Right now I believe its inside the "Newbies" sticky, which is helpful but I'm guessing most WDW vets don't consider themselves Disney Newbies. That may help address a lot of the common questions earlier.

Just a thought.

I've noticed more WDW visitors on the DL forum. Also some complete newbies to disney. I attributed it a great deal to Carsland. It mostly seems to have started since Carsland has been promoted.

Also I've read some posts on the WDW boards of people who are:

1) getting tired of WDW and want to try DL just once to see what it's all about
2) irritated that more and more some attractions at WDW need to be refurbed
3) some who want to avoid WDW until the new Fantasyland construction there is done

Count me in on this. I have been reading about DL for the last two years. We are WDW vets. We were planning for this summer but decided to wait for the first year crowd levels for Carsland to go down. So July 2013 is in the beginning stages. I am really excited about reading about all the different levels of hotels/motels.:cloud9: Also when I see the day temps for the upcoming weeks in Anaheim I want to jump up & down. We are June visitors to WDW so we know the Florida weather in June. You mean I don't have to drag the ponchos around:banana: I might need a sweatshirt at night:yay:

I am one of the wdw vets browsing these boards.nwe have our first dl trip planned for next month. It's funny we decided to go to dl vs wdw for a lot of the previous mentioned thoughts. But the big one for us was with the current construction of the fantasy land expansion we decided to hold off on wdw. So take that with the new Cars land our choice was easy. Then we thought use it as a stop before off o hawaii, but that changed as we decided to cancel the hawaii part as the family chose to have a pool installed.

But I would think the main reason is why not hold off on wdw for a year when all the construction is done, and we all need our yearly Disney fix and with cars land opening you will get more wdw norms visiting this year

My family are WDWers and just got back from our first DLR trip a week ago.

We had always known that we'd want to go at some point - what self-proclaimed Disney geek wouldn't want to? DH had a work trip to Orange County and it was concluding right before Father's Day weekend and at the opening of Carsland... it just seemed like perfect timing.

But I do think the increased numbers are in large part from Carsland opening in conjunction with the fantasyland expansion at MK.

This is exactly why we are going to DLR instead of WDW this fall....we typically take 2-3 trips a year to WDW (we're fortunate that we can do a one day drive to get there) but we didn't want to play the guessing game about when the FLE was going to open up this fall. Neither dh or I hadn't been back to DLR since we were kids, so we're headed there in Sept. with the kids! :cool1:

Perhaps people like me who are/were planning a visit to DLR after many, many visits to WDW the past 5 years? :) Frankly the traffic in this forum is light compared to the WDW TPA&S forum. If I don't visit that board more than once/day, I get lost with all of the threads and replies that are new. :confused3 <== not confused, I just like the smiley
