More than one Excursion in a port?

Is it possible to do more than one excursion in a port? Specifically in Alaska? But I'd be interested to hear about it on other itineraries, too. We have done two Disney cruises so far, both Caribbean, and only did one excursion per port, but some of the Alaska days have up to 12 hours in a port, so I wondered if it might be possible to squeeze in two activities? Thoughts?

In Juneau, we took a glacier hike in the am. On the way back, we saw booths advertising flights and signed up for one.

We had time for both, but with not a lot of time to spare.

Are you just looking at DCL excursions or ones you can do yourself or a combination?

I'll tell you with DCL excursions it is difficult to book more than one in a port -- we did look for Alaska to see if it were possible to double up anywhere and the only place we found we could do more than one DCL was in Skagway. DCL requires that there is 2 hours between the scheduled end of the first excursion and the start of the second (this is their rule in all ports, not just Alaska). Consider the times are padded for meet times there are very few that are scheduled for 5 hours or less in Alaska worth taking.

Now if you are looking to combine DCL with on your own or even strictly on your own excursions, it is very possible to do more than one activity in a port. But those activities would take up most of your time in port -- no time to shop or just look around town. But if you are fine with that, it is a great way to take advantage of port days.

Not sure, possibly combo. Just wondering if it is an option at all. There are so many options, I just want to make sure I see all the cool stuff I can! :)

Totally possible - especially if you book on your own and not through DCL. We did two - dogsledding (on dirt) and ziplining in Skagway, a whale watching tour and Mt Roberts in Juneau and a helicopter tour and lumberjack show in Ketchikan!

I did several multiple tours on my Alaskan Cruise. I did a mountain bike/brewery tour and the Mt Roberts Tram ride in Juneau and I did feel a bit rushed on the tram ride. I also did the White Pass & Yukon Train Ride and The Days of '98 with Soapy Smith in Skagway which worked out great. I had plenty of time between the two excursions to even check out some local shops and purchase a few things. I also did the Saxman Native Village Tour and Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan. I also had plenty of time between these two excursions to shop at some local shops.

Yep it's doable.... I did whale watch and Mendenhall combo (combo recommended as Mendenhall and whale watch boats are West of Juneau). When they dropped me back in town, I went to Tracy's crab shack for an hour or so. There was still time for me to check out Mt. Roberts tram.

You need to look closely at tour start times, when it's over and when the boat departs. Then like a buffet.... just fill the time with activities of your choice. Sometimes you get creative like abandoning a tour at Mendenhall to explore more trails and catching the shuttle back by paying extra (you need to know what the shuttle times are and important to let your tour guide know your intentions).

Yes, it's possible. In Ketchikan we did two excursions and in Bergen, Norway, we did two as well. Both were combinations of private and cruise tours. You just have to time them correctly.
