More ?'s - Where to buy, how much to buy, when to buy?

Sorry for all the ?'s - thanks for all your help everyone.... I have a few more.

Most likely our vacations for the next five years+ will be in late March or early April (our spring break). We've been looking at the BCV before it sells out. They have a magical beginnings where they will buy back your points for the 1st year with a December use date.

Is this a good date for us based on the March break and where we want to stay? If we buy resale at OKW or another resort do we have a chance to get into the Beach Club, Boardwalk or WLV in late March or early April?

We're thinking around 170 to 200 points - but still thinking......

We're still not sure about all this or if we should just stay at the regular Disney resorts when we go. We're very intrigued by the DVC though - more so than any timeshare we've ever looked at. I swear that mouse put a spell on us in March!

If you know that you'll be going to WDW during peak times (Spring Break/Easter, Christmas (especially first two weeks in December), Food and Wine Festival, Thanksgiving) then you should purchase where you'd want to stay the most. If BCV is where you'd want to stay the most, then buy there. If not, go the resale route. If you do buy at OKW, you still have a good chance of getting rooms at the other DVC resorts seven months out, depending on the time of year. Some members have even gotten reservations at their non-home resort at the last minute, also depending on time of year. As far as use year goes, December, February or March should work for you if your trips will normally be in March or April. Your travel months could change down the road, so use year may not matter later on.

It seemd like part of your question was about your potential use year. If you'll be vacationing in March/April then in my opinion, December is probably a pretty good use year. I think one of the tricks with use year, is that if a vacation needs to get cancelled for some reason, illness, you name it, and you need to cancel, you'll want to have enough time to be able to possibly bank the unused points, or schedule a second vacation sometime later in the year. If your use year is too close behind your normal vacation time, it won't allow you to have those options. So, if your thinking of a christmas trip, a january or february use year might not give you much flexibility if those vacation arrangements should happen to fall through for some reason. At least that's how I look at it. Others probably have other views. You may not have many choices. Good luck with your decision.

We love BCV, it's very nice at the busy times of the year like Christmas to have a resort that is close to the two parks that you can duck out of the busy park scene for a little more relaxing resort scene. There was a big difference between the parks and resort atmosphere. Both fun, but the resort area a very, very nice break from the high intensity action, crowd oriented christmas break time. Use the point charts to plan out enough points to cover your vacation needs. When BCV sells out, small add-ons might be hard to come by. The current add-on availablity at BWV is a surprise to many, and may not reflect future BCV add-on opportunities. Plan out what you'll need.
