DD just called me. She was getting in the rental car shuttle bus at the airport with her baby in a stroller. Some guy tried to push the stroller out of the way. DD said: "hey, there's a baby here. Be careful." He looked at her stunned and said "everyone behind me is pushing. " So DD yelled "EVERYONE RELAX! THIS BUS WILL NOT LEAVE WITHOUT YOU. STOP PUSHING. IF THIS BABY GETS HURT, I'M GONNA HAVE A SERIOUS MAMA BEAR MOMENT!"
All the jostling stopped. I think I raised her right.

The heat is really getting to some people. What a shame.

I think that there's a lot of people who are lacking manners or concern for others.

I see it regularly: not holding a door open for a parent struggling with a stroller, not offering a seat to an elderly individual/pregnant woman/someone carrying an infant, not allowing someone with two items to check out ahead of you with your full cart, not stopping for someone in a crosswalk, etc.

I do all what you mentioned plus some but sometimes being nice is considered being rude so now I am very careful and try to "read" the person I am about to be nice to. I had posted on here about a dozen trips ago while at WDW I had held the door for a young lady and she yelled at me " I don't need no man holding the door for me" so I let it go in her face.

That’s so sad! It’s simply good manners to hold the door for someone if they are close to the door when you’re going through. I always say thank you when someone does it for me, and I do it for others regardless of whether they are women, men, old, or young. When did being kind and considerate become unwelcome?

I think the six-feet-apart rules during early covid times interrupted peoples' habits with things like holding doors as well.

The funny thing is, I'm not seeing that here in Canada. Maybe it is the heat lol. Every day I see so much kindness. People are still good. They may need to be reminded.

We have probably a million threads out there with people proudly stating there is no reason to be chivalrous in any of the situations ya'll mention. Sad sign of our times.

@Mokat76 said --No, rudeness and false senses of entitlement are getting to people. Heat merely exacerbates already the problem. But I agree, what a shame."

I agree with this. I was in Walmart on Wed, and walked by 2 guys who were apparently getting into an argument . One guy was walking past the other, and happened to clear his throat. The other guy thought it was directed to him, and called the guy out. The guy apologized, said it wasn't directed toward him, just clearing his throat. But that didn't end it. They were standing there arguing about something that simple? So I go down the next row, and find an employee so someone to call security just in case. The store was busy, and there were a lot of kids in the store at the time. They were getting louder and louder, and we hear one of them say "so we are going to stand here and argue over my saying I'm sorry for nothing..how about we take this outside and settle it." Security came along and they ended the argument and went on their way.

Really people , get a grip. Heat or not, the first guy did nothing wrong, except for not just keep walking and not respond to the other guy.
But these days you just don't know what is going to set someone off.

This is why I like watching shows like Downton Abbey - I’m able to escape today’s world for awhile and go a time where people were mostly kind, had manners and etc.

There‘s still kindness out there, but the amount of people behaving unexceptable overshadows it. Such a shame! We all need to wake up every morning telling ourselves that we are going to behave kindly today and to not let the ugliness around us dictate our behavior. We ALL can do better!
