More non-member questions: renting points

If I rent points from someone and they make a reservation for me, how do I know there is an actual reservation? And after I paid, could they cancel the reservation without my knowledge?

I realize there are a few terms and conditions the seller and I would have to agree on first, but I'm just really asking in general, most common terms.

I hate to think someone would screw me over for a few hundred bucks, but hey, you never know, right?

I should probably stop with all this "renting" business and just join the club, right? Ha ha.

The DVC ember can send you a copy of teh confirmation. No, there is nothing to stop them from canceling at the last minute, but I thinkI've only heard one story like that since I've been around. The DVC member takes risk too, so you need to make sure that oyu are both comfortable with each other. References would definitly be good.

I agree, there would be no reason to defraud, since you would have their contact information. Renting involves trust on BOTH sides of the agreement. The owner has to trust that the renter wont cancel less than 31 days out, causing the points to be put into holding. That is one of the reasons owners require payment in full long before the actual reservation date.

It's pretty standard for the member who makes the reservation for you to send the confirmation letter from Member Services to you. The reservation will have your name on it and the number for Member Services so that you can call and verify the confirmation. It's resonable to request a contract and references from the person you are renting from but, in the end, it comes down to trust and respect for each other. Find someone you are comfortable working with and you will have great accomodations at a reasonable price for your Disney vacation. I've often wondered how many renters become owners after they enjoy their DVC experience and their first "Welcome Home"!
