Disney announced today a bunch of things returning to WDW...

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

• Disney Movie Magic, the cinematic nighttime experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios celebrating Disney’s live-action film legacy will return on November 7th featuring a new sequence from Disney’s epic adventure, Mulan.
• Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular will return on December 19th
• Minnie Mouse returns to Red Carpet Dreams
• The stars of Disney Junior will be back in Animation Courtyard

Magic Kingdom

• Mickey Mouse returns to his backstage location at Town Square Theater on Main Street, U.S.A. sporting his new EARidescent look
• Disney Princesses will return to Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park

• The music of Chakranadi returns to Asia (2nd week of October)
• Kora Tinga Tinga returns to the streets of Harambe in Africa (2nd week of October)
• Tam Tam Drummers come back to Africa (early November)

Disney Resort Entertainment

• Performers will soon return to entertain guests who are strolling along the waterfront at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort
• Yeehaw Bob will return to the River Roost Lounge at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside starting October 14th

Happy to finally see some character meet & greets returning - although the Disney Parks Blog does specifically state: "Although the environment is not right just yet for hugs and autographs, you’ll soon be able to have individualized time with some of your favorite characters, getting to visit with them in a themed location and snap a photo or two."

It seems that Walt Disney World has finally given people their wish to finally do meet and greets with the princesses and interact with them. But why I think autographs and hugging have not returned yet is I think Walt Disney World is planning to make people pay money to get autographs from the princesses and hugs will cost a fee and what I think they will do with these Photopass pictures is make the character meets like Santa photos at malls. Because when you look at it character autographs and meet and greets with characters have always been free with park admission so these new style of meet and greets are part of a new road that Walt Disney World is gonna travel on to get more people to the parks. As for the other live entertainment returning I think Hoop-Dee Doo Musical Revue will be replaced with a better dinner show and I think why it's taking so long to return is that Disney is possibly casting new actors/actresses and understudies for the return of Hoop-Dee Doo or another show. But at least the performers are returning to perform at Disney's Boardwalk because that's what makes Disney's Boardwalk fun to go to. Hopefully now that character meet and greets have returned Walt Disney World can really bring back character parades next

Hugs have not returned because of Covid. The simplest explanation is usually the correct one.
